Happy Wednesday!

It’s Wednesday…the middle of the week already.  Boy, and we’re supposed to get rain…what else can be great about this day???  Anyway – there hasn’t been much to be silly about before today, and so here’s a quick list of stuff to celebrate should you be in the mood.  ;)

Today is National Dog Day… so, if you happen to have one, like them or have a photo of one, good for you.  ;)  Personally, I’ve discovered I like them a little more than I thought, but I’m still not a dog person.  Give me a cat anytime, lol.  Now If I could just get rid of the three that are in my house…anyone want a fox hound???

National Toilet Paper Day!  Yeah!!  I don’t know about you, but Toilet Paper is the best invention EVER!!  I shudder to think of life without it…  UGH…

Tug of War day…I guess if you like to have tug of wars, this is your day.  I think my daughter does this with her dog…lol

Women’s Equality Day.  Well…here’s to all us working women who are showing our equality.  Personally, I thought this was something we celebrated every day, but ya know.  I like being equal to my hubby in telling my kids what to do…right?  ;)

So I hope everyone has a great day!

Ugh.

Okay - so anyone familiar with pink eye?  It's a dreaded childhood (usually) bacteria that makes your eyes red and goopy and is extremely contagious.  When you work in a school district, they frown on you coming to work if you happen to have such a thing.
I woke up this morning with goopy eyes and couldn't believe it.  I mean, I was in schools yesterday, but I didn't touch any of the children...sigh.
Well - so the doctor says it's probably not since my eyes aren't stuck together and crusty.  But they gave me drops anyway, since it could still be...
got to love viruses.  NOT.
so...I got my hubby home with  me, I'm coughing in a chair, and the kids are doing dishes and otherwise being somewhat helpful.  I guess it's a good day!  ;)
I'm just glad I have sick leave, lol.
Hope your day is better!!
And just to share...this is the photo I got second place at the county fair with.

Only got 3rd with my painting...should I give up the brush? lol

It's Monday and...

The first day of school for our area...
hundreds of parents taking their kids to the first day of kindergarten, etc.  I don't remember it being such a big thing when I was a kid, but then, I don't really remember being in kindergarten.  ;)

Needless to say, we didn't take our kids to school...we took photos of them and sent them on their way.

Hm...

So - it's also a couple of fun wacky holidays.  Today is
National Waffle Iron day.
So - if you like waffles, it's a good day to pull out the waffle iron and cook up some.  We made Zucchini waffles...and they were pretty good.  I'll be writing them up on my cooking blog.  ;)

It's also William Wilberforce Day.
I have to admit, before the movie Amazing Grace came out, I'd never heard of the man.  Great movie, nice story.  Not entirely true to life, but it's good...  ;)  Hm...we should have watched that!

It's also Knife day, but I don't know what that's about - I just figured I'd mention it in honor of my brother.  He makes knives as a hobby, and he's awesome at it.
Here's a letter opener he made for my daughter...it's dang sharp and we keep it so that no one accidentally sticks themselves with it...lol

Hope everyone had a great weekend...I can't believe it's toward the end of August already.

Our son just announced that they want to change their wedding date to the end of September...so we're in for a bit of stress...they want to hold it in our back yard, like our daughter did...sigh...
Wish us luck!!

Have a good one...  ;)

Red Sun

Well...my camera has failed me, but here's what I could get of the amazing sunset tonight...we have a sky full of smoke that is such a haze we can't even see the mountains on the other side of the valley.  It's crazy - I can feel it in my lungs...
I feel bad for those that actually have the fires burning...but we've got the smoke.  sigh.
this is through the window...

this is outside through the willow tree...where you see the sort of circle is actually a very red sun.  I can't believe how it washed out on the camera!!

I tried to get closer, but it's still just a red reflection.  Interesting.

Hope you have a wonderful evening.  ;)

Back to work...

Well..today was back to work.  It was good, this week is going to be pretty casual as teachers don't return (officially) till Wednesday, and they'll all be in meetings most of that day...then setting up final touches on classrooms and stuff, so maybe Thursday or Friday I might go out to a school...and then next week school starts.  Sigh.

Saturday was crazy, did some face painting for the first time.  It was really fun!  The balloon festival was really fun (what I got to watch while painting faces.)  Fortunately, they were doing it right in the middle of the field, so it was a good view.

It's still hot though...and I'm wishing that September were here...sigh.  They're doing roadwork on the road in front of our house.  Today they actually have a large hole in front of half our driveway.  Oh boy.  Fortunately I could go into the other half...  Here's hoping they get it filled in fast.  ;)
Well...there's a couple of fun stuff for wackiness...

Today is National Black Cat Appreciation Day.  We love black cats...we have three of them!  Well...two of them aren't totally black, they have white spots on them somewhere.  But we like them.
You can see the one on the far right - this was when she was a kitten.  ;)  See the white toe?  These three used to come sit on the back of my chair while I was at my desk.  This shot was taken over my shoulder, lol.

National Cupcake day!  Yeah!
Well...for those of you who like cupcakes, this is an excuse to eat one.  Personally, I'd rather have a piece of cake, lol.
And last is National Thrift Shop Day.  I love this one...thrift shops are my favorite!!  We have a couple out here that are great.  I'm always liking it when I find brand new stuff that people have donated.  Score!!

Anyway - have a good one!  ;)

Happy Saturday...

There are just a couple of silly holidays that I couldn't not post about, so here ya go.  ;)

Best Friends Day - didn't we already have a best friends day?? Or something like that...but I guess you can't thank your best friends too much, right?  That's what makes them your best friend!  ;)

National Relaxation Day...hey, sort of an excuse to take a day off, right?  And it's Saturday!  so, go party at the beach.  August is half way over!

World Honey Bee Day.  Since I love honey, and we need bees to make the honey, celebrate!  Make sure you aren't spraying too much pesticides (which is supposedly part of the problem) on your flowers and plants.  We don't spray ours at all, but I rarely see any bumblebees.  Saw a huge one in Yellowstone last month... ;)
and there's this cool new way of building a hive so that you don't have to smoke the bees...have you seen it?

it's awesome.

Well, that's all for today.  Hope you have a great one!

Busy weekend...sigh

Well, it's by my own choice, but this weekend is going to be crazy...
First we have the Layton FEST again tonight, and I'm hoping it doesn't get rained out again!  ;)
Tomorrow is the Ogden Valley Balloon and Arts festival up in Eden, that should be fun, but I don't know that I want to stay all day...and then Monday I'm back to work.
sigh.
The summer is just not long enough - even though I like my job, ya know?
So, a couple of crazy holidays, and I'll let you go enjoy your weekend.  ;)

Today is National Navajo Code Talkers Day.  They were pretty awesome, and I haven't had a chance to see that movie they made about them.  Let me know if you have and what you thought.  ;)  I read the synopsis and it sounds a little too sad for me... :(

V-J Day!  I thought it was interesting on the news how they said the Japanese prime minister didn't come out and apologize for WWII...what do they expect?  Did Germany apologize?  I don't think so...who ever apologizes for starting a war?  I thought that was the weirdest statement.  I think Japan has paid a long time for that war.

Worldwide Art Day!  Hey Hey Hey!  That would be me, lol.  It's been fun this week, I've been painting up a storm.  I don't know that I've ever painted this much in one summer, and it's been really fun.
I'll post the photos on my art blog...  but here's one that I really liked...

Well...got to go.  Have a good one!!  ;)

We Survived!

Lagoon, that is.  lol  I haven't been to Utah's famous amusement park for a couple of years, simply because we aren't interested.  ;)  Our kids love it, and usually go every year, and most have worked there on and off.  We have one working this year, and the biggest bonus to working there, is Employee Appreciation Days!!  that's right, folks, the employee's family gets to go at a fraction of the cost of a regular ticket.
Used to be (when our daughter worked there several years ago) it was $6.  This year it's $15.  sigh.  It's still a bargain, but sheesh...lol
Anyway - so we went with most of our family yesterday.  Got to spend a little one on one time with granddaughters!
Isn't she a cutie?  She's not quite sure about Grandma...she is a mommies girl.  ;)

They liked playing in the fountain...

and then the youngest finally fell asleep.  ;)

It was a LONG day...and we didn't even get there till after 1..sigh.  I managed to not get sunburned, which is always a plus.  Hubby got to come later, and we all went on Rattlesnake Rapids...and I didn't get the brunt of the waterfall, which was nice.  When we went earlier with my granddaughter and niece, I GOT SOAKED!  sigh.

Anyway - today is the Davis County Fair, and I entered a painting and a photograph, so keep a look out!  ;)

It's also National Lefties day...and since we only have one lefty in our family, (and he doesn't use it for everything,) I guess we'll just tell him happy day...lol.

Have a good one!

S'mores!

Today is National S'mores Day!  Not that I'm a big s'mores fan, but I do like chocolate, lol.  So, you know, anything that has chocolate deserves a mention in my view.  ;)  In my family, quoting movies is like breathing, so all of us like the scene in the Sandlot where the new kid is being introduced to s'mores...

Anyway - and as I've posted on my food blog, we've found an adult way of doing s'mores, which is awesome, in my book...dark chocolate covered pretzel thins with the roasted marshmallows...  YUM.
anyway ...onward...

Paul Bunyan Day...so for those who like to celebrate the legend, it's today!  I guess we could all have large lumberjack breakfast, lol.  We had pancakes, I'm going to count that.  ;)

So, hope everyone has a great day!  It's Monday, it's a new week, our county fair is this week, it's my sons employee appreciation week, and I am hoping to get to see my granddaughters, so we're looking good!!  ;)

Are We Dry Yet??

Okay...so I might have mentioned that we had a flood in our basement (of sorts) this past Tuesday, when we received almost 3 inches of rain...sigh.  It was a pain to clean up because it was in our workout room, which has those thick black mats all over the floor...and those are what got wet.  So, we didn't want mold and mildew and stuff, so we had to move all the equipment, and haul the mats out and clean them off, dry them, dry the floor, then put everything back.  It put my hubby's back out, drove us all batty, and we were so glad when it was over and done.
Then yesterday we got a microburst.  Oh boy.  I was doing the Layton FEST...remember me mentioning it?  And here we are, having a fun old time, painting bookmarks for some cute girls and suddenly the wind picks up.  Hubby comes over and says that he sees lightning coming our direction, and we should probably pack up...well, it's not a simple thing to pack up an easy up and tables and all my paintings...which took a good half hour or so to set up in the first place...so we started packing things up, and then suddenly - Whoosh!  Here's a link of some photos...  It's pouring rain and the wind is whipping things around and we're in panic mode trying to get all of the stuff protected!  Hubby ran and got the car and loaded stuff up while my future daughter-in-law helped me gather everything under the eazy up and hold onto it so it didn't get blown over.  He was soaked to the skin by the time we got everything in!!  That man deserves a medal!

So....anyway - guess what flooded again?  That's right...the workout room.  :(  Oh boy...in fact, it was worse than before!  So...that's what we got to do today, pull everything out and set up the mats to dry and the floor to dry so Monday we can put it all back together.  Hubby built up a little cinderblock retaining wall so that hopefully it doesn't happen again.  He thinks it was because last year we leveled the dirt for the above ground pool we got, and the water flowed toward the house instead of out and away...sigh.  And his back is still out from the previous adventure, and then working to get everything put away yesterday made it worse....  sigh.  Poor man!!

So, that's our excitement for the week!  And weekend...

Anyway - because I have a minute while my daughter is finishing up her experimental taco pizza rolls (which have turned out very nice...just took 2 hours to do, lol) so I thought I'd get today's wacky holidays out, since there are a couple.  ;)

International Cat Day!  Yeah!! All cat lovers rejoice! lol.  We have too many cats...and they aren't indoor cats, so they're a little mangy looking, but we still put up with them.  Three of them are black, two of which have white spots in various locations.  A tiger stripe that's the best looking of all of them...she's a puff ball and a little on the feisty side.  A long haired siamese that needs to be shaved - BAD.  sigh.  Anyway - yeah cats!!
(this is my drawing - copyright people!  ;)  )

The Date to Create - I'm not sure what this means, but perhaps it's to encourage people to use their imaginations and stuff...you know, create?  whatever...but I thought it looked good.  ;)

Happiness Happens DAY!!!  Now I like phrases like that!  Instead of Stuff Happens, Happiness Happens, okay??  And it usually happens because you choose it, so everyone choose to be happy today!  I usually do, and I like being happy.  Hey, most of you know my favorite song is, "Happy," right? lol.  ;)

National Bowling Day.  Well...I used to like to bowl, when I could actually play, lol.  We haven't gone bowling in AGES.  I'm not sure why, except that we'd rather do other things than toss a big ball and see if it lands in the right place, lol.  Mine usually end up in the gutter now...it's sad.  It's hilarious to watch my left handed son bowl...

Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbors Porch Night.  Wow...that's a first.  We usually sneak it into peoples cars at church when the doors are unlocked,...  ;)  but those of us who didn't get a chance to get a garden in, we REALLY WOULD APPRECIATE SOME!!

And last....it's ODIE DAY!!  Everyone likes Odie, right?  The loveable brainless sidekick of Garfield?  The poor dog who almost always gets the short end of the stick, and usually Garfields foot...  Sometimes he turns the tables, but anyway, everyone go read some comic books of Garfield, because watching one of those movies just isn't the same.  ;)
Have a great weekend!

First Booth of the Summer and More...

Okay - so I messed up.  I should have posted yesterday because it was National Root Beer Float day!!  How could I miss that???  sigh.  Hopefully you heard about it somewhere and enjoyed...lol  No one should miss out on root beer floats.

But first...what I mean by first booth, is I'm going to be doing a booth at a local farmers market for the next three months!!  (taking  nervous deep breath)  This is kind of a big step for me, I've done booths before, but generally they've been for food - not my paintings.  I mentioned to one of my neighbors last night at a pot luck dinner that I was doing a booth today and she didn't even know I painted.  GROAN.  I keep trying to get the word out...but it's like banging my head against the wall sometimes...lol

SO....Layton City is holding Layton FEST and I'm going to be there with paintings to buy, making bookmarks and gift cards.  If you're in the area, come check it out.  ;)  I'll be happy to see a friendly face.  Let's just hope the weather cooperates....

So - let's get to it.
Today is Lighthouse Day!
If you like lighthouses, than you'll be wishing you were next to one...sigh.  I remember there is one in San Diego that is pretty cool.  My hubby and I ate lunch there one weekend when we were celebrating one of our anniversaries.  ;)  Good times...
Anyway - onward.  ;)

Kool Aid Day!  Everyone remembers the sugar drink growing up, right??  And I fed it to my kids for most of their lives...till I decided sugar was a bad thing and then started using other sweeteners.  Anyway...still a fond memory.  ;)  Who remembers the Kool Aid guy??  "Hey, Kool Aid!"

And last that I feel to mention...Homemade Pie Day.
Not going to happen in my home, but hey, somewhere I hope someone is making pie!  I have to say....one of the best things about pie is the crust!!  lol.  The filling is good too, but when it's a fruit pie...the crust is always the first thing I test out.  If it's good, the pies a winner.  ;)

Well...need to get some painting and other things done for this afternoon.  Have a good one!!

Rain! Yeah!

What's that old Carpenters song?  Rainy days and Mondays...Well, it doesn't get me down today!  I love rain in the summer...I tell ya.  It's nice to have something beside 90 degree heat, lol.
Our weekend was crazy and good...I'm just glad it's over.  Hope you had a good one!  I have two weeks before I go back to work, so I need to paint like crazy and finish cleaning my house and enjoy these next days...
I'm thinking of doing a booth at the local town fest they do every Friday afternoon/evening.  But it's kind of a commitment, and not sure I want to do that.  groan.  I'm such a wishy washy person sometimes...  I want people to buy my art...but I'm too lazy to want to do it every week??  Oh well...

Anyway - today is Friendship Day!  So tell all your friends that you appreciate them, they're what keep you sane!  Well...or insane, whichever the case may be, lol.  ;)'

It's Watermelon Day!!!  My hubby LOVES watermelon.  We had a boatload of it yesterday, so yesterday should have been watermelon day, lol.

But, what it should be is RAIN day!!  I mentioned rain...but I tell ya, we are having an excellent day of rain!!  We're even close to having a flood in our basement, which hardly ever happens.  Fortunately our basement is cement and there isn't anything that would be damaged close to the door.  ;)  I ended up putting a pool floatie outside the door so that it would direct the water away...let's hope that works.  I haven't seen it rain like this in August in a long time...my sister-in-law lives in California, and she's so jealous.  They are sooo dry...and with the wildfires, they could sure use some rain, so keep them in your prayers, huh?

Well...that's it for today.  Have a great one!  Go run in the rain!!  lol

Happy Saturday! Lots to celebrate!

Hey everyone!  I'm listening to Pandora, and Cool and the Gang are singing Celebration...let's all boogie..."let's celebrate, it's alright....we're gonna have a good time tonight," lol.  I know, I'm a spaz.  (Need to warn you I'm in a bit of youtube mood today, so there's lots of links to videos, enjoy!)

Anyway - there is lots to celebrate today!  I have to admit, I kind of skipped on yesterday because we just had too much going on.  Today's not much better, but I have a moment, so I'm taking it.  I've given myself 15 min to try and pull this together, we'll see how it goes.  ;)

Girlfriend day!  Everyone one of us that has a girlfriend, best friend, etc., tell her thanks!!  This is their day!  ;)  (Hey Linda, Cyndi and all the rest - you're the best!  lol)

National Mustard Day!  Okay...I'm not a big mustard fan, but there are those in my family who like it.  Well...enjoy the tangy yellowness today...  Ugh.

Respect for Parents day!!  Sad that they'd need a day to emphasis this, but there ya go.  Tell your kids!  lol

Sandcastle Day!  Makes me wish I was at the beach and building sandcastles...sigh.  Here's a little video clip from Youtube on sandcastles that you  might like...  ;)

Okay - have to break for Happy...lol  "give me all you got and don't hold back...I should probably warm you, I'll be just fine, ....because I'm happy!"

Okay - I'm back.  ;)

Spiderman Day - Everyone that likes the newest addition to the multitude of movies of spiderman raise your hand!!  I sure do. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) Poster And now they're remaking it yet again...sigh.  Some people!

US Air Force Day! Yeah!!  My brother was in the Air Force when I was a teenager and I thought he was sooo cool.  My family has great military background, but he was the first to do the Air Force.  Parkers are big on the Navy, so it was brave of him to choose that, lol.

Well, we have a baptism later in the day and then family swim party tonight, as well as a family BBQ tomorrow that we're holding to meet my son's future in-laws....oh boy.  Nothing like summer, right?

Well, hope you have an awesome day.  ;)

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
