Chocolate!!

So - today is National Chocolate Day!!  Love to celebrate this one.  :)  already started with yesterday...I was craving chocolate, so I made a quick batch of chocolate fudge pumpkin cookies that are SOO easy...

I'll post the recipe on my food blog....

Anyway - I'll have to figure out if there's something else I want to make today.  Probably not...there's still cookies left over.  :)  of course, that's unless my sons get to them before I get home...sigh.

Anyway - have an excellent day!!

(chocolate photo found on the web...as also found the keep calm and eat chocolate one... didn't see any credits to give reference to...so hopefully no one is upset with me!)

I have to say - every since the phrase Keep Calm and...came out, people are putting it with everything.  I think I'll make one for the upcoming month of NaNO...

Keep Calm and Keep writing!!  lol

Saturday was Fun...

I agreed to help with a fundraiser type thing on Saturday, and it was soooo much fun.  It was for Gigi's playhouse,
which if you haven't heard, it's a lovely place for Downs Syndrome children and their families.  They operate for free for those families, and it was an honor to help with the 5k run/carnival on Saturday.  I'm hoping next year is even bigger.
I was there doing face painting, and it was sooo much fun, I can't stop saying it, it really was!!  Right next to me were the wonderful evil queens...Queen of Hearts, Cruela De'vill, and Maleficent.  They were kept company with Ariel (we wondered where Ursula was) and on our other side were Anna and Elsa.  The queens were getting ready to leave so I begged my hubby to take a picture of them, as they had been making us laugh all morning.
They were happy to oblige, and you can see they were all so charming!

And then there were the kids...  I had fun with all of them.  :)

I really enjoyed the Queen of hearts though...she said that I was an incredible face painter, and I was glad she wasn't yelling "off with her head", lol.

They were so believable, that some of the kids were reluctant to come see them.  They kept assuring them that they were nice!  Really!  :)

I was a little stiff...and since I was sitting most of the time (as is usual when face painting), it was REALLY hard to stand up and walk.
You see, I'd tried revisiting my youth on Thursday.  I played volleyball with the women of our stake...in preparation for a tournament that starts this Thursday.  I wasn't sure what I had signed up for...I have to admit that I haven't played volleyball in YEARS!  Um...decades??  That's so ODD.
Anyway - I was relieved to discover that I could still play...did rather well considering my age and shape...(ugh) and went home feeling like it had been the most fun in a LONG time.  (can you tell I like to emphasis things?)
Sigh.  And then I woke up on Friday morning with leg muscles that were screaming at me. OH my.  They didn't feel somewhat normal again until yesterday.  I'm serious!  I could hardly hobble - I felt every minute of my over 25 years old body - and then some.  I didn't get a bruise on my wrist until Sunday morning...which was interesting.  I'm wondering how to wrap it for the game on Thursday so that I don't make it worse...since that's how I serve.  (I know, underhand is so old school, lol)
It was so funny...I kept asking one of the other women - "So, what does the score go to now?  How does the scoring go?" etc.  I mean, I had to update my brain...
But it was fun.  I wish I'd thought of signing up in previous years.  sigh.
So...gauntlet is down ladies.  If any of you have had thoughts of playing volleyball and had played in your youth but you're afraid of embarrassing yourself...already been done and no one cared.  LOL
Have a good one.
Oh...
today was Grouchy Co-Worker day...  don't really have any, so I posted this video from Studio C on the most annoying co-worker...I figure that works.  :)

Is It Friday Yet? sigh...

Okay - you know it's going to be a long week when you think Tuesday is Friday!!!  All day I had to keep reminding myself that we'd only just begun....ARGH!  I don't get it...except for perhaps the long weekend last week made it hard to go back to work.  Oh well.  Today we have a couple of fun things...so perhaps it will make it a great Thursday!  See...I do know what day of the week it is, lol.

Caps Lock Day.  Okay, so I remember my daughter commenting on someone saying they were mad at her on Facebook.  Her comment to us was, "What are they going to do?  Caps Lock me?"  Used to be using the caps lock key was for something very important, for emphasis.  Now it means someone is angry with you and you are getting a text that is equivalent to a howler (in potter-eese) lol. I'm not sure why they would want to celebrate it....brownielocks (the site I refer to) removed the link they had because of profanity.  Groan.  really??
So...
National Nut Day!  For those of you who love nuts (like me) Are a nut, lol (again like me) this is your day!!  I just love the texture of nuts in things...love to munch on almonds...especially the ones my hubby found in Costco that are dark chocolate covered almonds sprinkled with a little sea salt.

I could have skipped the salt, but the chocolate part is dang good...

Smart is Cool Day.  I think we've been trying to convince people of this since the word 'nerd' was coined.  It might finally becoming a reality, but not in elementary schools...sigh.  If you watch the TV series Scorpion, you'll see what I mean.  We love that show!!  Now if our daughter had just ignored the people who gave her a bad time about being smart in Jr high ( I know...don't you just love jr high??? NOT) (see....emphasis!! lol)  she might not be having such a hard time in college math now.  sigh.
Anyway -
last item was more of a community awareness thought...
International Stuttering Awareness Day.  I didn't realize it was that large of a problem, but apparently it is.  My youngest sons all had a speech problem that I thought was stuttering, but the SLP told us it was Studdering, which was something totally different.  Hm...  It still makes them feel awkward and they don't do well when speaking in front of groups or when reading outloud.  My boys have all since overcome it...
Hope you had a great week so far...remember we're having excellent fall weather!  We might not freeze on Halloween, but it could still happen.  I get to pick up a LARGE pumpkin at a neighbors house today, and I'm excited.  Don't know if we're going to attempt to carve it...would loose a grandchild doing that, lol.
Have a good one!!

Back to the....Past?

Okay - so Back to the Future is officially on everyone's mind since today is the day they used in the movie...in 1985.  Everyone thought the world would be SOOO much farther than it is.
In some ways it did improve...alot.  Just think about DVDs and cell phones and flat screen tvs.  Heck, my hubby is installing computer monitors at his work the size of tv screens, with the CPU built in...wild.
Everyone is all wanting to know about the gimiky things though...like where are the hover boards?  Flying cars?  Dehydrated pizza?  Self tying shoes? Automatically drying clothes?
I think we're long away from flying cars...hover boards are apparently in the works and who wants a dehydrated pizza...I do think the self drying clothes would be good, especially for kids!! ;)
Anyway - so for those of you who like trivia...here's a clip of some of the top 10 moments of the films.  Enjoy!
Great Scott...time to get to back to work!  :)

It's Monday!

And it's raining, which is great!  It finally feels like fall.  Hope you all had a great long weekend and are ready to hit the ground running!  (well...some of us it's more like limping along, but ya know...)
Only have one thing today, and only because it reminds me of a movie line that makes laugh.
Today is Evaluate Your Life Day.  Reminds me of the prequel Star Wars movie where they're in a bar, and Obi-Wan Kenobi:runs into a drug dealer.
(photo from The Soul of the Pilot Blog...don't know where he got it...lol)

He does the whole Jedi thing on him and says "You don't want to sell me death sticks."  The guy repeats it after him, then he continues.  "You want to go home and re-think your life."
I think that's what today is.  A day for all of us to Evaluate or Rethink our lives.  Usually that's something all of us do around New Years...when we do the whole resolution thing.  But it is always helpful to take stock of where you're at and see if you need to improve something or if you want to change something.
Are you happy with your life in general?  Are you frustrated with where you're at?  Just a friendly reminder that we are the masters of our fate.
Where is your ship going?
Have a great one!

Lucyyy....you have some splainin to do!!

Okay - so I couldn't not post today, it's I Love Lucy Day!!!  how could we miss that one??  I LOVED that show.  I watched the original ones in black and white...(oh boy, I guess that dates me...lol)  But anyway, had to remind everyone to be sure and watch your favorite episode today.  Because she totally rocks, ya know??  Though I love Lucile Ball in just about anything.  We have the movie she made with Henry Fonda, Yours Mine and Ours?  It's soooo perfect.  ;)  Here's one of my favorite episodes...

Anyway - in addition to that importance, it's Global Handwashing Day - as if you'd want to miss that...I guess they're trying to stress the importance of hand cleaning to third world countries??  Hm....most 5 year old's need to be reminded as well.  I promise...I have a 5 yr old granddaughter...

International Day of Rural Women.  Really??  People celebrate being rural??  OR are they trying to bring the city to the rural girl?  Not sure, and don't have the time to look it up this morning, so I'll just have fun with it.  What do you think??  I'm soooo not Rural.  Where we live was once considered rural, but my hubby doesn't call our youngest daughter 'city girl' for nothing.  ;)

National Cake Decorating day.  Hey!  that's a fun day...if I had any ambition, I'd decorate a cake.  But you see,...I did that two weeks ago.  And...that was good for now.  sigh.  My daughter-in-law liked it, so that's all that was important.  ;)  I've done lots of decorating, ya know.  I have 7 kids...and most of them liked fancy cakes.  I even made a pirate ship for one of them, and I thought it turned out pretty decent, but unfortunately I can't locate any photos on the computer...sigh.  So, you'll have to take my word for it, lol.  Here's a site that has some pretty neat ones...

National Grouch Day.  Hey - If I were more of a grouch, I would think this was my day, but I'm afraid I'm not, so if you know someone who is, then let them know they have an official day.  It might even cheer them up a little.  ;)

Well, enjoy this awesome fall day.  It's gorgeous!!

It's Wednesday...and a Friday at the same time, lol

So - in case you haven't picked it up from my previous posts, I work for a school district.  This school district has a fall break in October.  Used to be called Hunters weekend, but then the state took it over and called it UEA...and then everyone gave up on that (because most of the educators weren't attending?  And now they call it Fall Break.  Works for me...I don't have to work tomorrow and Friday.  So...that makes today my Friday.  I'm a happy camper.  :)  I know...doesn't take much to make me happy, huh?

Anyway - so we have some holidays to celebrate today.
National Bring your Teddy Bear to Work and School Day.  Failed on that one, lol .  I just don't have a small one that's handy to carry around with me...anyone else bring one?

National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day - too bad my kids don't read my blog...perhaps I should forward it to them, lol.  See if you can get your kids to take you out!  You deserve it!

And last for the day...

Spiderman Day - apparently the Mayor of New York declared October 14th Spiderman Day It could have been a one time thing, but hey, if you're a fan, it's a good day to keep in memory.  Personally, I REALLY like the new ones...didn't quite like Toby McGuires version...although I did like Francos version of his friend...so if you could have a dream team, ya know?  Anyway - that's all for today.

Hope you have an awesome day...dream big and all that.  It's a gorgeous day!

That's was Awesome!!

okay so - today is only one thing I'm going to mention...
National Day for Failure!  Isn't that the strangest day to celebrate??  And what's funny, is I failed to get it up on the actual day! So....I failed!  lol  and you know what??  that means I'm awesome, right??  Anyone seen the movie Meet the Robinsons?  It's full of all sorts of positive phrases like "Keep moving forward" and the like.  At one point Louis, (the main character) has failed to fix an invention that the family is attempting to use for dinner.  Instead of everyone consoling him, they praise him for an outstanding failure.  "From failure you learn, success not so much."
If you take nothing else away from this blog today - please remember that failure doesn't mean the end of the world.  We all fail at one thing or another.  We aren't perfect.  We can only keep trying and see if we can improve one step at a time.
You're awesome!!  Did you have a failure today you want to share?  I'd love to hear I'm not the only one.  :)

Just a couple of weeks away...

That's right...it's
almost that time of year again....

Happy Monday! And Canadian Thanksgiving...

Hi everyone!  Hope you had a great weekend - today is the start of another great week!  And not only that, it's the start of a SHORT work week, so everyone is excited, right? Well at least for those of us who work for a school district...we love Fall Break!  (used to be hunters weekend or UEA...lol)

Well, we have a couple of fun things to think about/do today.

First - It's Native American Day -  I always take this day to tell my son-in-law I appreciate him, since he's part Native American.- not that you'd know it to look at him, lol.  Got to love those Scottish ancestries...  Go watch the Lone Ranger and enjoy Johnny Depp  😉
Canadian Thanksgiving.  This is one my family celebrates every year since my hubby went on an LDS mission to Toronto Canada.  It's fun, it's out of the norm, and that way our married kids don't have to divide their time between both families on the regular turkey day.  😊 win-win for everyone! ðŸ˜Š and hey, we get turkey and pumpkin pie twice, which I'm lovin, let me tell you.

Natinoal Kick Butt day.  Okay - so I'm not sure this is such a good thing, but I thought it sounded off the wall.  I would imagine this is to encourage those who are struggling to overcome something to get out there and kick it...ya think?  But actually, it's to encourage the youth to avoid tobacco and smoking.  So...there ya go.

National Online Banking day.  Hey - have to admit that the first time they but my banking online so that I could do it from the comfort of my own home I was sold.  I guess we have the small niggle of fear of hackers...but we are able to transfer money to pay bills from the comfort of our home instead of running to the post office.  Got to love it.  Anyone else?

Free Thought day.
Seeing as how I work for a school district that sort of encourages thought and knowledge, I felt this was an appropriate item.  Besides, I think most educators are free thinkers.  Aren't we glad we live in a nation where we can be free thinkers and express that? (well, for the most part...sigh)

I hope everyone has an awesome day!  Go eat some turkey!

From our Canadian friends...

Well...perhaps not.  I thought when my hubby came home from his LDS Mission to Toronto Canada, that Pierogy were a staple of Canada.  However - in researching today's holiday, I discovered they are a Polish and Eastern Europe item, that was brought over here and has quite the following in the US as well.  So...not so much Canadian in origin, but they like them too.  ;)

It’s National Pierogi Day!
If you’ve seen the movie Men in Black, there’s a scene where they are in a restaurant eating these.  They are a little time consuming to make, but they sure taste good.  ;)  I thought these puppies were Canadian in origin - However - in researching today's holiday, I discovered they are a Polish and Eastern Europe item, that was brought over here and has quite the following in the US as well.  So...not so much Canadian in origin, but they like them too.  ;)
Most people would think of them as a type of dumpling (which would also explain my hubby liking them…he’s quite a dumpling fan).  I think they are similar to potstickers, so there ya go.
We have yet to have tried to make them ourselves.  I’m just not really into the heavy prep and work for a small bite, lol.  So, we buy them already made.  We used to be able to get them cheap at the Rainbow Market that was in Fort Lane, but now have to buy them at the regular grocery store.  As a result, we don’t eat them a lot, so tonight’s dinner should be a treat.  ;)
Have you had them?  Which flavor is your favorite?  We like the potato and cheese best…but I’m thinking it would be nice to try with mushrooms.
Anyway – there’s your food history lesson for the day.
Have a good one!

We Survived! And boy...it was worth the wait...

I’ve had a wonderful week off, and fortunately, you didn’t miss much by way of silly holidays.  Aren’t you glad?  Lol  And just in case you’re curious, wedding went well, yard survived, fountain looked cool, and we had a wonderful trip to Fish Lake…sigh.  The leaves were AWESOME!!  I hope to share some photos in the next couple of days...right now we're still digging out the TV room of all the furniture stuffed in there to make the dance floor that no one used...sigh.  It was all good...room got deep cleaned, ya know?
So…today we have a couple of fun items that I thought I’d share.

Today is National Kale Day!  For those of you (like me) who love just about everything Kale, it’s an excuse to eat this wonderful veggie in full force!  Even those of you who can’t stand the thought of it would probably eat the soup at Olive Garden…you know which one I’m talking about, the Zuppa Toscana with sausage and kale…YUM.  Anyway…I like it sauted, in casseroles, salads, etc.  I usually put it in my green shake when I get it made.  So…let them eat KALE!  ;)

It’s Walk to School Day.  Since we don’t have to walk to school, I guess it’s more to encourage kidos to do that…my children are all grown out of high school, so no more walking to school for them.  It’s kind of a days walk to Weber U in Ogden, lol.  Well, maybe not a day, but toooo long to get anything else done.  ;)  And I don’t know what the big deal is…when my kids were all in school they walked to school every day until they were in high school.  (unless it was snowing a blizzard, raining cats and dogs or under 20 degrees, lol – I’m not totally heartless!)

And last…
You Matter to Me Day.  That’s the truth folks,…it’s a real day.  And you know what?  You all matter!!  Everyone is important.  It reminds me of the phrase the help was teaching the little girl in the movie The Help.  You is kind, you is smart, you is important.”  So take that thought with you through the rest of the day, because all of you. Are. Awesome.
Have a good one!  ;)

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
