It's Friday!!

And we know how to party!  Especially since today is Have Fun at Work Day!!  &#X1f60a  And we all know how to have fun at work, right??  Turn on some dance music and move around the desk...Here's a good Alex Boye video to dance to.

Curmudgeons Day - Who's your favorite Curmudgeon?  I have to say, I don't think many people even know what that word means, lol. And, I don't really know anyone who is like that.  Do you?

Freethinkers Day - I think everyone should celebrate this idea.  Aren't we all freethinkers?  At least we are free to think, right?  Hmmm

National Pre-school Fitness Day -
okay - really?  You have to promote preschool fitness? At that age you need to encourage them to take naps, lol!  At least my kids were active. Do you think this is another symptom of our society?  Hm.

National Puzzle Day - Wow...love puzzles!  We do them on family vacations because if we try to do them regularly, the pieces get lost.  :-/  We did one at Island Park last year that drove us crazy!!  We never did finish it...1000 pieces are tooo many when you have snow and water landscapes!  Just sayin'...

Thomas Paine Day - this apparently goes along with freethinkers day - because Thomas Paine was a big believer of free thought.  He published Common Sense in 1776, and I think many of its precepts are good today.  Share the thoughts!

And last...the food for the day is National Corn Chip day!  Isn't that a favorite for the super bowl?  Oh well, we don't really eat corn chips.  How about a tortilla chip!!?

Well, have a great day, and a super weekend.

The Sun is Shining!

Which is usually a good thing when there's a lot of snow outside.  :)  I know we have more coming, (hopefully) so I'm not going to grouch about some sunshine.  Besides, we need that too.  Everyone needs their Vitamin D.  :)

I hope you've been having a great week.  We only have a couple of things.
First - It's National Kazoo Day!
Yeah!  Everyone dig out your Kazoos and serenade your neighbor.  My husbands grandmother was in a kazoo band until she moved to Utah, and they used to go perform all sorts of places.  She was a hoot.  Literally....lol

and last, it's National Blueberry Pancake day.  Sounds like a winner to me!!  That's what we have every conference Sunday - or rather waffles, but it started out as pancakes.  Anyone else for a dinner of breakfast? Wonder if I can talk my son into these instead of mac n cheese...

Hope you have a great day.

It's Wednesday! ? I thought it already was...

This has been a crazy week.  sigh.  I don't know what the deal is, but I've been mixed up on the days.  Today is actually Wednesday the 27th, I believe.  I was thinking yesterday was the 27th.  No idea why...

today...has an item for a more thoughtful day around the world.  It's Holocaust Memorial Day - and I think we could have a moment of silence for that terrible time in history...not just the holocaust, but for all the people that have killed in the shadows, under the name of dominance...Its my understanding that more Jews were killed in Russia than were killed in the death camps, but no one heard about it until after wards.  Something like 80 million?  Don't quote me...I don't have time to validate it, so give it some thought and perhaps look into it.  Our world can be a very sad place sometimes.  I have to say that I'm glad I know there is a God that loves us.

On a brighter note - it's also
National Geographic Day - now I have to say that National Geographic has become quite the 'green' magazine with an agenda.  I wasn't aware of it when I was a kid and went over every issue that came in the mail.  I just loved the photography!  They do have some amazing photographers on their staff.  I have a thick book at home that has some of their best stuff in it.  Did anyone see the big full moon this morning in the western sky?  I really wished for my camera right then!!  Anyway, click on the link if you want to see something inspiring.  We can all use some beauty in our day.  :)

And sorry - Monday was National Bubble Wrap Day!  How could I have missed it?  The best stress relief known to mankind...and a fun way to tap dance without talent, lol.  I wanted to put the clip of Mr. Magorium's bubble wrap dance here, but it's not on youtube!  Go figure...

But last for today...National Chocolate Cake Day. My favorite cartoonist, Sandra Boynton had a tweet for the day:

So, make some chocolate cake and relax with some bubble wrap.  Life is good!!

It's Monday...and we aren't snowed in?? dang it

Sometimes I think it's a joke on me.  All the snow always goes somewhere else, never on my house.  :)  I know my husband is VERY grateful, he is okay with snow in small batches...but I think I've mentioned before how I wish I could experience being snowed in just once.  Apparently I'm going to have to change locations if I really want that to happen...like Alaska or back east somewhere, because I think they are on the route of Day After Tomorrow, lol.
But, we're good.  We got a nice little dusting last night, and we've been getting steady stuff, so I'm not going to complain...too loudly.  I know that many of you are tired of it, and I had a teacher telling me this morning that she'd rather move to St. George, but she didn't want to start over. UGH too hot for me folks...and I like my seasons!!
Anyway - hope you had a piece of pie Saturday and yesterday was peanut butter day...I think I could live on peanut butter sometimes.  I did a lot as a teenager...
Today is National Irish Coffee Day - which while I don't think any of you drink coffee, an Irish twist to hot chocolate is always good.  I think mint works...right?  some hot chocolate, some whipped topping...it's all good.
and

Burns Night - This is in honor of Robert Burns, and generally in Scotland, it's a big deal, apparently much like our Thanksgiving dinner.  So...if you're Scottish or like the poet, you can celebrate in his honor!
Hope it's fun!

It's Friday!! thanks heavens...

Okay - I know it's been a short work week for me...and I've been a whiner for most of the time because I've been sick...but I'm really glad it's Friday.  Just sayin.  I was making up some birthday cards yesterday...and didn't realize till I was all finished that I'd put the inside inscription UPSIDE DOWN on the INSIDE FLAP.  So that you know, when you open a card you expect to see the words facing you, right?  These are upside down an opposite of that.  UGH.  I guess that's what happens when you try to do stuff when you're sick...
:(
wanted to share some pictures I took on the way to work this morning...the sunrise was awesome!!
I just love the colors!

I had to share.  If I'd had my lovely camera, they might have been better, but it's hard to say.  My camera didn't have a good zoom...these were from my phone!

So...anyway - onto some silly stuff.

Today is Answer Your Cat's Questions Day - Personally, I don't think they really want answers...they just like to bug us.  You've heard that joke about the diary of dog and the diary of a cat, right?  Here's a version of it...the cat portion makes me laugh.

Celebration of Life Day - Yes!!  I think we need to celebrate this every day.

I just wanted to mention that tomorrow is National Handwriting Day and National Pie Day (not the math pie, lol)  So, honor those who have amazing handwriting (which my children are NOT in that category) and be sure to have a slice of pie!!

I made it through the night...

Ugh...I tell you - I really thought last night that I wouldn't be going to work today.  I felt awful!!  And I was running a fever and ached in my knees and ribs, and yada yada...
fortunately I felt good enough to go to work as I don't have any more sick leave...sigh.  I do have one more personal day and one more comp day...so if I have to - it's there.  I'm just hoping it's not going to be a have to!!!
Anyone else have this gunk and have any suggestions on how to get it kicked for good??  I take airborne, I have a humidifier going, I've taken a clay bath, I drink wassail..cough syrup and cough drops...  UGH.

So - let's get off the depressing and onto the silly thought for the day.  Today is National Hugging Day!!  that's got to be one of the nicer ones.  I love giving and receiving hugs - So everyone get out there and hug your family - hug your friends!  I'm not sure I'd recommend hugging a stranger, but ya know...whatever floats your boat.  :)  Here's Sandra Boynton's tweet for the day... if you have a twitter account, you can tell her she's awesome...  :)

It's also New England Clam Chowder day.  Boy...that's one of my favorite soups, clam chowder.  So if you have the time, I'd try this recipe - it looks yummy!  We had cheese soup last night, so I think my hubby would rebel if we had clam chowder tonight - besides which he is not a big clam chowder fan.  He's had too many that were fishy tasting.  Poor man.  :)

So...Have a great day - give someone a hug.  :)

Cheese lovers day!!!

Hi everyone!  I'm running a little late getting this out today, but there are a couple of silly things:
Camcorder Day-  Who remembers camcorders??  We had one that my in-laws let us have that have the little cassette tapes inside that you have to put in a VCR machine to see them...  lol  We still have a couple of tapes...it's a pain trying to move them to DVD.

National Cheese Lovers Day - Cheese!!  I love cheese.  My daughter is making a broccoli cheese soup for dinner, and I'm way excited.  What's your favorite way of eating cheese?  We love fondue...love pizza...love cheese.  I had a roommate that would melt cheese in the oven (this was before everyone had microwaves, lol) for a snack.

National Disc Jockey Day -  for those who played the records for us....not so much anymore, huh?  It's all CDs...

Rid The World of Fad Diets and Gimmicks Day - this is all women, right?  No FAD diets...DIET is a 4 letter word that no one needs to use.  We all want to be healthy!  Right?

And last....It's National Granola Bar day.  well....if you like them, enjoy.  I always thought they were either too sweet, or too hard.  So...ya.

Have a great day- enjoy!

Fog! ...for a little while

Can I say that I hate being sick?  :(  I tell ya, this is insane!  I couldn't get to sleep until after 2:30 am last night because of coughing.  Then we had to get up for prayer this morning and I had no voice.  Again.  It's a little better now, but I thought it was going to be gone again!  Sigh.
I'm just glad today isn't a work day and I have one more chance to beat this thing before going back.  UGH.

So...quick thoughts...
today is Popcorn Day! - Got to love popcorn day...what kind of popcorn do you like?  Plain?  Buttered?  I like the flavored stuff...we have a bag of popcorn that's drizzled with dark chocolate...YUM.  Lots of people like theater popcorn, but that's tooo buttery and salty for us.

It's also Tin Can Day.  Not sure why there would be a day to celebrate tin cans...but there are lots of people that were glad for them - much easier to store than jars and less breakable!  lol

Hope you have a great day. We actually have blue sky!

In Honor of the Past - warning, a little political rant...

Okay - so I'm not real big on some causes, even though I probably should be. I'm also not known to be politically correct, which won't make me any new friends...
That being said - Marin Luther King Jr was an amazing man, and should probably be honored -- but I think his message has been lost.  Our society had so much promise...it still has promise if people would take a more active part in it's governing.  I think many have come to the point where they don't feel they really have a voice.
They go to the town meetings, they sign up for the caucuses, they try to encourage others to vote...and yet, the wrong people keep getting elected.
I understand that perhaps the time to really be active was 30 years ago...when I was in the middle of dating and getting married and starting to have children.  Politics was the LAST thing on my mind.  I loved our president, and I thought he was doing a great job. Reagan was amazing.  And then I liked Bush too - don't throw things at your computer monitor - I really liked his son.  Unfortunately, Clinton was in between them, (which was probably why the son was elected in the first place) - and regardless of which political party you are afiliated with, you have to admit that he didn't do ANYTHING to help the image of America.  I don't even want to talk about our current president - I'm sorry, but I pray every night for the man simply because we are to pray for our enemies.  I view him as an enemy.  He is an enemy to the family, marriage, and freedom of religion.
So....today we remember Mr. King and his impassioned speech about his dream.  I hope all of you have some idea who this man was and what he was trying to do.  I hope you have taught your children.
I am thankful that I grew up without such prejudice in my life.  I had no idea that people could treat others in such a way.  It hurts every time I see a movie that portrays it.  My heart goes out to those that lived through it.
I don't believe the same problem exists today.  I'm sorry, but all the rioting and protesting about the issues in Mississippi? (sorry, don't remember the exact locations and don't want to take the time to research it right now...shot me) Is about entitlement.  They have been fed the garbage that they are entitled to things because of the past.
I know of black (I'm sorry, I don't feel African American is appropriate.  They are black.  I am white.  Should everyone go by their ancestry?  So we're Irish American or Mexian - instead of hispanic - etc.  I don't feel they should be singled out as special because of the color of their skin.  I'm sorry...don't hate me now) people who are wealthier than I am.  Who have better schooling and opportunities than my husband and I have had.  I'm happy for them...as I'm happy for anyone who is able to get ahead of things in life.  But I find it difficult to think someone else deserves better than what I have simply because of race. I think we should all have equal opportunity and pay, regardless of race.  No one is entitled to more than another simply because of who they are or where they were born.
My family and I are going to watch Selma today so that they can get another view of the man that shaped history.  We've read and watched books and movies like The Help and discussed life at that time, and how fortunate we were to live where that wasn't such a big issue.  At least I didn't see it in California and later Utah.  Could be I was blind..
Okay - so enough of that soap box....sorry.  :)
Onto the rest of today...
National Day of Service - I guess that's tied to Martin Luther King day...I've also seen it associated with other days, so who knows. It is always good to perform service...so have fun!!Pooh (Winnie The) Day - (Illustration by well known artist EH Shepard)
One of my favorite days. My mom was big on Winnie the Pooh before it became popular. She has an etching of Winnie the Pooh on her gravestone...we'll always associate her with him.
Thesaurus Day - This is only because I'm a writer and use it a lot...whoever came up with the idea was brilliant!!

I guess I've been a little verbose today, so I'll stop.  Hope you all have a wonderful day and that it's been a relaxing weekend!

It's Snowing!!

Just in case you hadn't noticed...lol.  And it's Friday!  For a LONG weekend, so yeah!  Everyone get up and dance the snow dance of joy, ....

Okay - so the only thing going worth mentioning today is that it's Strawberry Ice Cream day.  For those of you who like strawberry ice cream...enjoy!!!  If my hubby weren't  home sick, he'd love it.  &#X02639

I still have most of a voice...by the time I got home last night it was going out again.  I'm really tired of this.  How much vitamin c can you push into your system???  My second foster dad always said you should push like 1500 miligrams vitamin C when you were sick.  That was before the invention of Airborne...so I guess he was onto something.  :)

I hope you all have an awesome weekend.

Thursday, January 14, 2016

Well....I'm still alive, sort of, lol

And I actually have a voice!!  Well...mostly, lol.  We missed some fun stuff over the past couple of days...yesterday was Rubber Ducky day!
today is a couple of low key ones...
International Kite Day - except it's kind of hard to fly a kite in Utah right now...snow kind of makes it difficult, lol.  unless you're Charley Brown, right? Hopefully you've seen the movie - it's awesome.
Dress Up Your Pet Day  -   My daughter likes to dress up her dog for halloween, but I don't think he likes it.  Does your pet like to be dressed up?
Organize Your Home Day - I think this goes with January anyway - don't you?  I always think of cleaning up after taking the Christmas decor down and getting the house back in shape.

Monday was Clean off your desk day...and one of my favorite cartoonist, Boynton, has a twitter account, and posted this one --
Now that's my version of cleaning...lol
Thanks Sandra, for giving us something to laugh about as always.  You should go visit her site, it's pretty fun.

and for food...
Today is Hot Pastrami Sandwich day.  Ohh...Have you ever had the pastrami burger at Crown Burgers?  I'm not a big pastrami fan, but I do love those.
Anyway - whatever you do, enjoy.

Brief bit of sadness...Alan Rickman died today at 69.  Apparently he'd been battling cancer.  Who knew?  Anyway - another to add to the list of those who have gone to the party on the other side.
sigh.
Well...life goes on.
Have a great day.

Sick and no voice...sigh

So today I'm home sick with not much of a voice.  Staying home sick is not as great as it used to be...I have kids at home now, so I'm not on my own.
I got some extra sleep!  but, now it's time to bug the others that should be out of bed and doing.  Because mom's home and can do that.  :)
Hope you had a good weekend.  I did find a couple of silly things to mention...
Cigarettes Are Hazardous To Your Health Day - go figure, really?  Who would have guessed...picture me rolling my eyes now.  (where do you think my kids got it?)  sigh.

National Clean Off Your Desk Day - well...perhaps thats something I can do today while home sick...but you never know.  I'm big at procrastination.  :)

on a food note- it's also National Milk day and Hot Toddy day - so you can combine that and enjoy.  I think a hot chocolate would suffice, lol.

Have a good one.

Friday, January 08, 2016

It's Friday at Last!!

Finally, right?  I don't know why, but this week seemed long to me.  And then there are others who've said it was short, so again, we have perspectives, lol.
Anyway - lots to do, people to see, places to go, yada yada.

Today is National English Toffee Day - Well, since we just finished the holiday season, anyone who has English toffee left is probably throwing it away, so if you have any...enjoy!  I don't think we do, I'll have to ask hubby, since he makes the wonderful stuff.

Midwife's Day or Women's Day - I'm not sure why it is both midwifes and womens, I guess if you are a woman and you're not a midwife, then they don't want you to feel left out, lol.  I think midwifery is a special field...kind of like teachers of special ed.

National Bubble Bath Day
- Okay, if I just had a deep enough tub, this would be awesome.  I'll have to see if my granddaughters want to celebrate, lol.

I LOVED bubble baths when I was a kid.  My dad's fiance had a bunch of packets of scented stuff that you could pour in, and it was my favorite place to imagine being a princess, lol.  That was probably TMI.  Go relax tonight!

Show and Tell Day at Work- I guess you're supposed to help bring out the child in you by sharing with your co-workers some of your personal life so that you interact better with people or build social skills....whatever.  I think it's silly, but if you think about it, people are showing and telling at work all the time.  At least if they decorate their desk in any fashion.  Almost everyone has a photo of their family and will tell you at the slightest inquiry about them.  I have photos of my little granddaughters...I have a fan that my daughter painted for me for mother's day and the little word magnets that a co-worker gave us for Christmas one year.  I have a little striped Zebra that I found at DI to match my groups jungle/wild life decor, and snowmen, that I think are silly.
I collect snowmen, in case you wondered, lol.  So, anyway, that tells you I'm a little eclectic... Or strange...it's up to you, lol.  If you me want to share something that's not visible from a desk, I do calligraphy and paint...I do cards every year for Christmas and you saw that one yesterday... or was it the day before??  anyway, there you go.
I also wanted to show this tree outside the window at my office.  I just love when the snow coats things like this...it's so pretty.  This photo doesn't really do it justice, but ya know.  It was my phone, lol.

So, whatever you decide to share, have fun and have a great weekend.

It's Thursday and Foggy!!!

Crazy weather around here...could never tell it was winter.  Right?
Well, today we have some fun stuff.

Harlem Globetrotter's Day Anyone remember the Harlem Globetrotters?  One of the members that played in the 60's, and 70's died the other day and my kids were like, what's the globetrotters?  We had to explain how awesome they were.  Here is a video with them making these impossible shots and breaking records for the Guinness world records.

I'm Not Going To Take It Anymore Day - I guess if you are fed up with anything, this is your day.  Tell the world!  &#X1f60a

National Bobblehead Dayproof that silly is always in style and has been for some time.  &#X1f60a

www.bobbleheadhall.com
When it opens in 2016, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum will be a high-quality museum with the world’s largest collection of bobbleheads and will ...

National Tempura Day- like Japanese food?  Or anything Tempura?  I had no idea that tempura was a way of cooking, I thought it was just the item, you know, tempura chicken, or tempura beef.  Apparently it was introduced to the Japanese by a Portuguese priest...go figure.  Now you know, lol

I guess I didn't have any takers on the bird sounds quiz...oh well.  Too bad...here is the card I made for this year...
Hope you have an awesome day!

Wednesday, January 06, 2016

January is...

food month!  Okay, maybe not, but there are a couple of fun things for this month that I didn't realize till today.  I realized that I wasn't having as much food holidays as I wanted, so I did some more research and found some!

So a couple of food trivias for you.
January is National Oatmeal month.  Apparently more oatmeal is eaten during this month than any other.  Go figure...it wouldn't have anything to do with the cold, right? lol

It's also National Hot Tea month.  I think it's funny they specify hot tea.  What, you don't want iced tea when it's 12 degrees outside?  What's wrong with you??   I love herbal teas.  I don't even sweeten them, which drives my hubby crazy.  He thinks they all taste like grass...lol.  I can't wait till my granddaughters are older and we can have tea parties!  I actually did that when the Olympics were held in England.  It was sooo fun.

And...it's National Soup Month.  Which, once again, figures in with the temperature.  What's your favorite soup?  I love a good potato, but I also love several of Zuppa's soups, like the mushroom bisque...YUM.  We make the Zupa Toscana a lot at home.  Hm...that's what I can make for dinner tonight!
It's also National Shortbread day.  I love shortbread cookies.  I didn't used to when I was little, probably because they aren't as sweet as most cookies, but I sure like them now.  I ran across one that is supposed to be the Hurst family cookie.  I don't know, but it's yummy.  Here's the link.

Well, hope you have an awesome day.  Go make some soup and breadsticks...that covers at least two things, lol.

Tuesday, January 05, 2016

It's Snowing again. :)

And I'm happy, lol.  I've been discovering the joys of crocheting little baby booties.  I say joy because they go super fast!!  It's much easier to finish a project when you know it's not going to take a lot of time.  One of my friends at work has had two grandbabies born before Christmas, and I wanted to make her some baby booties.  I got one set done, and discovered I'd had the baby's sex wrong...so now I'm making a pink pair.  They are looking so cute!!  Hopefully I'll be able to post a picture of them.
So, have just one thing for the silly holidays today -
it's National Bird day!  I tell you, it surprises me all the time what they come up with.  This day is to help people realize (apparently) that birds are not great pets and they'd prefer it if you just said 'no' to caged birds...whatever.  I've never wanted one - so it's not me!  lol
I'm putting a link here to the website.  They have a bird song quiz that I thought you might have fun with.  See how many you can recognize!  I should offer a prize for the person who guesses the most correctly.
Um...I'll send you a copy of the Christmas Card I did for this year.  :)  Or, I'll calligraphy something of your choice.  Let me know what you'd prefer.
Have a great day!

Happy 2016!

I can't believe how fast 2015 flew.  And it's Monday already, and we're back at life in general.  I had a nice break with my hubby, and we really wished it could have been longer.
I like my job - I tell people all the time that I think I've probably got the best job in the world - but I was telling my hubby last night, it's still a 'job'.  It's still work away from home and from him and that's just not always great.
But - it's all good, right?  It's a new year, new month, new week...new Monday.  And I'm glad to be alive.  :)

There is lots that are silly to celebrate today, so see if anything tickles your fancy.

Blue Monday -  So...if you are one of those that hate Mondays, apparently this is the worst day of the year.  There is some dispute, apparently, as to how scientific the forumla was where they arrived at this conclusion, but personally I think being the first Monday after the holiday season makes it so no one wants to go back to work, lol.

Divorce Monday -
having a sister that's a divorce lawyer, I already knew this week was the big week.  She's told us many a story about how they always try to make Christmas a big deal before throwing in the towel...sigh.  You got to feel for the kids...I guess the judges and lawyers dread it.

National Weigh-In DayFor most people, I think this is preceded by the whole resolution bit - need to loose weight.  I don't do resolutions, so this isn't a big day for me.  I already know what I weigh, lol.  I am always looking at trying to loose weight and be healthy...that's why I have that other blog about cooking. What are your thoughts??

"Thank Goodness It's Monday" DayOf course it's really a different word, but I don't see a reason to leave it that way.  I think this is the complete opposite of Blue Monday, and it's interesting that they are the same day.  It's all about perception, right?  Some people are just so glad to have all the partying and craziness behind and get back to the regular routine.  Some are wishing it wouldn't ever end.  Which one are you? Personally, it's just a Monday...but I am torn between the idea that either the party goes on, or we get back to normal.  It depends on the day which way I feel, lol.

Tom Thumb Day - Did you know this was a real person?  I always thought it was some kind of nursery rhyme.  But this was a midget (before they called them that) that performed with PT Barnum under the name of General Tom Thumb.  Interesting.  Now you know&#X1f60a

Trivia DayWell...since you're getting a bit of trivia, it's already celebrated, right?

World Braille Day - This is Louis Braille's birthday! (Happy bday!! - it's also my second to youngest son's bday, so we're celebrating anyway.) I don't know why they don't just celebrate that instead of world braille day, but who knows.  I guess they want to raise awareness for those who are sight challenged...  I think figuring out a bunch of dots with my fingers would be SOOO challenging.  sigh.

World Hypnotism Day - I had to laugh. I'm sorry, I know that hypnotism helps some people, but I'm a little reluctant to open myself to someone elses control.  &#X1f60a  I never was able to be hypnotised in those big group sessions in the high school theater when the hypnotist came to town.  It was great fun to watch, and I always wanted to be up there acting like someone else, but it never happened.  I've heard that it is beneficial, but apparently not for me.  Have you ever tried it?  It's supposed to be great for weight loss or stopping smoking, etc.  That's apparently what this day is for, promoting all the benefits and debunking the myths.  Well...I've yet to meet anyone who it has really worked for, so that's my side

Hope you  have a great day!!

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
