It's Friday!

This has been a crazy week...  at lest for me.  Hope you're enjoying the weather where ever you are, we are having a lovely winter right now - nice and snowy and cold!!  Kind of missed us in December and January...  although we had a cold snap.
Anyway... fun times.
Got to watch some of the Olympic Hockey last night...and FINALLY a bit of bobsledding (all you need is a guy named Bob, right?) and that was fun.  It was sad watching figure skating, several of them fell!!  sigh.  You want them all to do their best...
 So... some fun stuff.

first, it's Curling is Cool Day - not only because it's played in the winter and involves ICE...but because the olympics are on right now, and there has been LOTS of curling.  I don't know about you, but I don't know that I could watch this game for very long.  It's enough to drive you crazy!!  You do get to yell at your partner during the game...which there's not a lot of sport where you can do that...and you do get to wear crazy pants.  These people are even crazier than golf shorts...
These were at least themed with the holiday, lol  It almost hurts the eyes...

Girl Scout Cookie Weekend - I know some people have been waiting for this all year.  I haven't seen hide nor hair of a girl scout so far...so I'm hoping we see someone at the store....

Skip The Straw Day - in case you didn't know, there is a revolution to rid the world of plastic straws.  Apparently there are many of them ending up in the ocean and waterways.  I never gave it any thought, but there are lots of fun paper straws out there.  You might order some of them to have on hand for fun/special occasions.  I have straws in my cupboard, but I always forget their there, so the grandkids don't even know...

Tootsie Roll Day - pretty much one of my favorite candies...I'll ALWAYS take a tootsie roll, even though it's more milk chocolate than dark.  For some reason they still taste good.  I like the thick ones, the big ones that you break into pieces?  Yep.  Good stuff.

National Banana bread day!  I think everyone loves banana bread!  We mix it sometimes with zucchini bread and always add chocolate chips.  Which way do you like it best??

well...got to go.  Have a great weekend!!

Feeling loved?

You know, February isn't over yet, the month of brotherly/romantic/neighborly love is still on, lol.  My hubby (the amazing man that he is) has hidden Valentine's cards all over our house and I still haven't found them all.  He had one in my car in the visor that I didn't find till yesterday, one in my lunch bag I found this past Monday...it's been fun finding them.  He's such a sweetie!  I found a frog and candy at the store yesterday in the clearance section (we're bargain hunters!!) and put it on his chair at home.  He asked me if that meant he'd turned back into a toad!  UGH.  I said no!!  I means I'm so glad that I didn't have to kiss a ton of frogs to get my handsome prince!!  sigh.

Yesterday was  sticky bun day, and I don't think anyone would be thought ill off if you celebrated that today...in fact, it would be neighborly and loving of you to share with someone too...  😊

George Washington's Birthday - I heard a story about Washington on Sunday, that he never wanted to be the man of attention.  When he was dying, one of the people in his room was very anxious, and he told him not to fear.  I thought that was neat...He must have been quite the man to know.
National Chili Day - this isn't mentioned on my favorite food site, the Nibble, but it was on brownielocks, so whatever.  I think it's interesting how many different types of chili there are, and how it's a challenge to make it spicy hot...  I like chunky chili with lots of meat served with rich cornbread.  What type is your favorite?

Woolworth's Day - Apparently it was on this date way back in the 1800's that Mr. Woolworth opened his first store.  It closed, and he found a new location that went well.  I don't know if you ever went to a woolworths store, I never did.  They were pretty much gone by the time I would have found one.  Just like our grand kids will never know a KMart...sigh.  They have dollar stores and 7-11.  Life is crazy.  I think they had quite the soda fountain...and you used to be able to have food at a counter too.   Not much like that left around anymore...

World Thinking Day - I'm not sure if this is to encourage thought on a world level, or for people to remember the world they live in or what...I don't always find out what it is the day celebrates, lol.  I think it's a good day to remember that we've got lots going on in the world today.  Jesus Christ lives, the Olympics are still going on (even though I still haven't been able to watch much bobsledding...)  we have a living prophet, and my family is recovering from their colds.  😊  What are your deep thoughts about??

And since I don't think much of this has been worth chuckling over...I'm leaving you with a clip from studio C...because, ya know - they're usually good for a laugh!! 😎

Welcome back to winter!

We almost forgot what it was like.  right?  I mean, kids haven't even had the thought of a snow day in their minds this year.  And at last!  I mean...finally!  lol   well, sort of.  We finally have snow worth shoveling - at least in my neck of the woods...  Makes it seem like it should be winter olympics, if we have snow outside.  😊

Don't mind me...I'm just wearing my olympic coat and badge...no one's called me crazy yet.  😊  Have yet to see a decent bobsled race though.  😞   I guess the only way to really watch is cable.  sigh.

Anyway - and yes, I'm alive, have survived, and mostly better.  I can still feel a bit in the lungs, and once in a while cough - but it's much better than it was.  I had a fever most the time last week and weekend, and was glad it didn't get any worse than that.  My hubby went to the dr on Friday - worried he might have pneumonia, but fortunately not.  He's doing much better than I am.  What's up with that???  😜

Well... not much to celebrate today, but figure it should make a bright spot.

Best Friends Day - Shout out to all besties!  Isn't that BFF?  So, question to make you think... of your current friends (not just who you have liked on facebook) what's the longest you've been friends with someone?  It makes you think!  I have a friend that we've known each other since before I got married.  Another friend that we've known each other since before I moved to Utah.  We aren't close friends anymore...but we are in contact, and it's kind of fun to touch base.  Friends are important sanity keepers...so be sure and cultivate them.

Chocolate Mint Day - chocolate mint!!  everyone loves Andes mints, right??  Yum.  My favorite hot chocolate flavor it the mint truffle one by Stephens ...  sounds good on a day like today!

National Lashes Day - and for total sillyness...  they even have a day to celebrate fake eyelashes!  I was never a big fake eyelash fan, and I'm not really into extensions, though I know many of my friends get them.  I have a hard enough time with mascara.  :)   I had to show this though, one of my favorite movies, and one of the favorite parts.  What really cracks me up is Lucile Ball always wore fake eyelashes, and here she is acting like she doesn't know what she's doing.  😊  Got to love the woman.  Enjoy!

If you missed them last night, the Ice Dancing was AWESOME!  I'm glad I wasn't a judge, there would have been a tie for the gold.  Canada and France!  Made me remember this from a LONG time ago... (in a galaxy far, far away, when I was young, lol)

So - have a great day.

Happy ....um chocolate day!!

some of us are home sick.  Instead of delighting in the day of celebration of love and all things chocolate, lol, I'm home coughing my lungs up and spitting grossness into the garbage.  My hubby would think this was so attractive if he wasn't laying in bed covered with layers of blankets and wishing he felt better too...  sigh.
so...  I have to share my favorite studio c sketch EVER so that you can have a great day.  :)

Have a great Walgreens chocolate sale eve!!

It's so easy...

to get lost in watching the Olympics.  We watched all evening last night, and I didn't even realize how late it had gotten until my hubby came in and reminded me it was ten and we needed to go to bed...  some of us had to get up in the morning, lol.
Well, actually, most of us did, but we were so close to seeing Sean White do his first qualifying run!!  No spoilers please, I have it ready to watch when I get home...  :)

It's Tortellini Day...and depending on who you talk to, (NOT IHOP, lol) it's National Pancake day.  It's also Shrove Tuesday, whatever that means, sorry to show my ignorance.  I've heard the word before, and I believe it's related to the idea that this is also Mardi Gras...so, ya know.  I'm just liking pancakes.  We had them for dinner last week, and I wouldn't mind having them again.  But, tortellini is awesome too!!

Well...that's all for now - need to get warm!!!  Have a good one.

Olympics!!

I was sick Friday, or I would have posted something about them then!!  I'm so excited!  I love the Olympics.  I pull out my badge from the 2002 games and wear it the whole time, with my green coat that I wear anyway, lol.  I'm sure it's quite the fashion statement, but ya know.  I never attained to the fashionista status.  :)

But anyway - it's been awesome stuff.  I don't remember watching team figure skating before, it's been fun watching them.  It feels like we get extra stuff because this is separate from the individual competition.  We especially loved the Italian dance team - they were so awesome!! I was hoping I could link to their dance, but I can't find it anywhere.  :(    At least I still have access on my TV, I'm sure we'll watch it again.

Yesterday the Music and the Spoken Word performed the song from the 2002 Olympics...  So many memories!!

So...  some fun things, see if any bring a smile.

Clean Out Your Computer Day - This is a big deal, everyone.  You should not only clean up the random files on your computer, but the monitors too!!  and be sure to do back ups.  😊

Darwin Day -  I don't celebrate this as a tribute to the theory of Darwinism, but I like to give a nod to a site that's very tongue in cheek...  the Darwin Awards.Fun stuff, and you'll get a laugh out of them...if you aren't shaking your head at the ideas some of these people come up with.  Good grief!!

Extraterrestrial Culture Day - Extraterrestrial Visitor Day - says it's supposed to be the second Tuesday, so I guess it's really supposed to be tomorrow.  Well...if so, you can be prepared, right?  lol  Everyone go make foil headgear and we'll meet at the water towers...  😊

Lincoln's Birthday - We all admire this man and are glad we get a day off next Monday to celebrate, right?

Paul Bunyan Day - I think we all grew up with tales of Paul Bunyan and the amazing lumberjack.  I like the Disney movie and stuff... there's a site that has some suggestions as to how the legend came to be, and it's interesting to note that at one time six feet was considered wayyy tall!

the only food item was National Plum Pudding.  I'm not a big fan of Plum pudding, so I wasn't going to say anything, but if you're into it, enjoy!  Friday was Pizza day and we had pizza...  Life is good.  :)

Have a good one!

It's Wednesday!

And somehow it's gotten to be a better day.  It was probably because of working with such great gals that I do...we get laughing and laughter cures everything, don't ya know??
So, just to explain my morning mood wasn't the best.  I had an argument with my son about how much food he was taking for lunch (sigh - you'd think he was 16, honestly) and then another discussion with same son about what time we were getting up in the morning (said son is autistic and gets stuck on things sometimes...)  😏  and I tried doing something different with my hair, with hot rollers.  Didn't plug them in early enough (besides finding the plug in the toilet tank...explain that to me???  They haven't been used in months!!  sigh) and then on the way to work there was a major accident shutting down the freeway so all the other highways and main streets were clogged with people and then it cleared up when I decided to take a side route...
ugh.
It got better from there.  Have I mentioned how much I love my job?  I really do.  Especially the people I work with.  They're awesome.  😊

Anyway - so it's a great day.  The sun is bright and the sky is clear (which isn't necessarily a good thing as we need snow, but ya know...)  and life is good.  I'm going to go get a salad for lunch!!  can't wait...

There are a couple of fun things today that I wanted to mention...

Ballet Day - I love ballet.  When I was small, I used to beg my dad for lessons, and ballet slippers and stuff.  He didn't have the heart to tell me that I just wasn't the shape for it, lol.  (I've always been chubby)  Baryshnikov was one of the greats...  I think it's the most amazing art form...and there was an article on the internet yesterday about the ice skater who is going to the Olympics that used to train with Ballet West in Salt Lake.  It's kind of cool...  especially since I love ice skating too!!

Laura Ingalls Wilder Day - Love the Laura Ingalls Wilder books...grew up reading all of them, and then watched the tv series (though it wasn't as good...)  I'm hoping to get my granddaughters to read them, but I'm not holding my breath, lol.

Wave All Your Fingers At Your Neighbor's Day - I would imagine this is instead of just one finger type thing??  I'm not sure, but I thought it was kind of funny.

and best of all... National Fettuccine Alfredo Day!!   I have to say that I'm a huge alfredo fan.  It has to be the best sauce ever...and over noodles is even tastier.  Add chicken and broccoli or asparagus or mushrooms....YUM.   sigh...  I think we're having that for dinner.  Well... the rest of my family anyway.

It's our cub scouts Blue and Gold banquet tonight, and we're celebrating the Olympics!!
because...in case I haven't mentioned it yet...it starts this weekend!!!  YEAH!!  So...be sure and tune in this Friday for the opening ceremonies!!   But we're having chicken and rice and stuff sort of oriental to honor Korean food...  we'll see how it goes.

Have a good one!

Happy Tuesday... sigh

What a weekend...and the slow start to a week.  I'm not sure I want to know what else can happen in my life.  I'm feeling a little better today about life, but I feel like there's an edge there.  One of my dear friends passed away last week due to complications of flu.  Really??  I mean, that's just wrong.  I'm so sad.  Yesterday was hard just thinking about it.  And then they posted her obituary, and that didn't make it any easier...  sigh.
http://www.lindquistmortuary.com/notices/Sonia-Hovey

So I felt like I needed something good to think and focus on today.  I mean, I know, the gospel of Jesus Christ has hope and light in it - and I am soooo very thankful for it in my life and the knowledge that she's not really gone - only her body is dead, not her spirit.  But, it doesn't make me miss her any less, ya know?  Anyway - so went and looked up holidays and there wasn't much beside food I wanted to mention, lol.

National Canadian Maple Syrup day.  At least that's a good thing...  there's a big debate, you know, about maple syrup and authentic stuff.  I guess I'm more of a fan of the homemade sugar stuff, lol.  Not much support from me and mine - but I do have some actual maple syrup in my fridge.  I'll have to see where it's made...I got it from Sam's club.  :)

I went to The Nibble - which is a fun food site. They said it was also National Frozen Yogurt Day - while some frozen yogurt tastes sub par, most of it is pretty yummy.  I don't know that it's any better for you than ice cream, but that's how it's advertised.  I saw a yummy recipe at Sams Club the other day where you took Greek yogurt and added honey, pureed some raspberries in a blender and then spread the yogurt on a cookie sheet (lined with parchment) and then put the puree in dots on the yogurt - swirling it around to marbleize it.  then you froze it and made yogurt bark out of it!  sounds yummy to me...  I can't find a decent recipe like what they were demonstrating though, so I'll have to let you know when I make it.  :)

and National Chopsticks day.  Well, that's exciting stuff!
Apparently there are a couple of rules regarding chopsticks...you are always supposed to eat with them right handed, even if you are left handed!  It's rude to elbow your neighbor, ya know.  (which is the same even with utensils! lol) You also aren't supposed to stab your food with them, which I think is a great temptation.  I think it's a great test of dexterity.  ugh.
I like this clip from Kung Fu Panda...

It's February! and Thursday...

Hi all.  It's Thursday!  My family was all bemoaning the fact it wasn't Saturday this morning, lol.  I guess it's been a long strange week, I don't know.  I thought it was a good one, but I guess going to the Jazz game and seeing them totally overpower my former home state champs wasn't exciting...  go figure.

Anyway - figured you could do with a pick-me-up if you're feeling like my family.  This made me laugh this morning, so I thought I'd share.   One of my librarians showed me a clip of our favorite principal and his 100 day shirt he wore last year, and I had to share it with you.  😊

He did one the year before that as well, and it's pretty funny...

Makes you worry about the math skills of our youth, but that's beside the point.

It's February!!  The month of romantic love, brotherly love, neighborly love, etc.  I always get to this point and think, dang!  I was going to do something everyday for my hubby, or for someone in my family...but I never plan it enough ahead of time.  Do you??

February has lots to celebrate.  Let's see if they're worth having fun with...

Candy-Making Day -  Interesting how this is candy making day.  I guess it's to gear up for Valentines, you think?  We don't make candy in February, that's December's past time.  Have you made candy in February?  What kind do you make?  I guess we could try some chocolate dipped stuff....perhaps I'll try that with grandkids on Saturday.  😊  It also depends on whose saying it...cause I've seen other places say November has the candy making day.  You know what?  It doesn't matter what day it is on the calendar or on the internet.  It's all a state of mind, and that's what we're having fun with today.  Chocolate!!!

Decorating With Candy Day - I also think it's hilarious that they have decorating with candy on the same day as making candy.  That's a lot in one day...making candy, then making something you can decorate with candy... I'll be they'll be coming out with some kind of gingerbread house for valentines that you can decorate.  I mean, they did it for halloween!

Hula in The Coola Day - The idea is to pretend you're in Hawaii, even though you're not.  Put on a grass skirt, some Hawaiian music and have a party.  Serve some spam, pineapple and roast pig over rice...you got it.  😊   Aloha!!  I like this one!!!
International Face & Body Art Day
I'm not into the deep intonation of this, just the fun facepainting and arm painting.  I have fun with this in the summer ( I think several of you already know this, lol) and look forward to another year of running around on the weekends.  We're going to be doing the Clearfield City 4th of July again this year, so come look for us.

Robinson Crusoe Day - Apparently it depends on who you talk to, but Robinson Crusoe was not the best character, and the story isn't exactly what people think it is.  I guess it's something about being stranded on a tropical island that makes people think it's cool.  They think of movies like Castaway and think that would be awesome.  Ask Tom Hanks... lol.  I've never read the book, have you??

Spunky Old Broads Day - Spunky old broads reminds me of the comic strip Maxine.  She is just hilarious, and can say whatever she wants to say. Alot like my mother-in-law...she figures she's old enough she can speak her mind and no one will tell her she's wrong, lol.  Who do you have in your life that's a spunky older woman?  It also brings to mind the TV show called Golden Girls.  They were pretty spunky...  this is a good example of it...lol

Have a great day!!

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
