It's Tuesday!! And all hallows eve...eve

Happy Tuesday!  And almost the end of October...  I can't believe how fast this month has gone.  And we've had such a gorgeous fall! It's definitely getting colder and darker and ready for Halloween...lol.  My grandkids can hardly wait.  We're having a double bday party on Halloween for my two youngest ones.  I figure that's a good day for a party, right?  We're going to watch Hocus Pocus, which they haven't seen yet.  Since we never get trick or treaters, it should be a quiet night.  What are your favorite things about this time of year?

Well...in case you need something to brighten your day, here's some fun stuff:

Checklist Day - Are you a checklister?  I sure am!!  There's nothing like checking off an item that you've done to prove to the world that you actually did something productive!  That you achieved what you set out to do! I'm one of the people that they created all those magnet note pads for - and who hates them because they never are strong enough to stay where you stick them and end up on the floor anyway...but I digress.  Today is your day!  Make those lists and check them off.  You are the boss!

Create A Great Funeral Day - This is kind of strange, when you think about it, but it's a good thing to plan.  What do you want to happen at your funeral??  What do you want your obit to say?  My hubby has informed me that he isn't going to hold a funeral for me, it's going to be a first class wake with all my paintings and books lined up and available to see and lots of music and food and fun - a big party that I would have loved to be part of.    😊
He, on the other hand, wants to be buried in a box with no funeral.  I've told him he doesn't quite get his way if I'm alive when he goes.  I'll probably do more of a wake for him too - though he's not the party animal that I am.  So - what is it you want people to say about you when your gone??  This is your opportunity to decide.  Do you want to be known as someone who was kind, and did service and was faithful?  Do you want people to know what's deep inside??  How will you let them know that?  This is your moment of introspection if you want it...   My dad wrote his own obit and made us promise to keep it as he wrote it.  We mostly honored his request - though it was hard.

Haunted Refrigerator Night - okay, this sounds like Fred the Drier to me.  I don't know if I've already told the story of Fred the Drier, but it started several years ago when my kids were little and we'd go see Grandma and Grandpa on Halloween.  It was started by accident, and then kept going when it was realized how much fun the kids thought it was.  Every year the kids would feed candy to Fred the Drier to keep him happy.  It wasn't until everyone was grown up that it came out 'Fred' was one of my brothers talking through the drier vent, lol.  It was awesome.  However - this is really about cleaning out the back of your fridge.  I think it is scary if this is the only time of year that it gets cleaned...  😜

World Audio Drama Day - Which was before my generation, lol, but I've heard good stories about it.  We still listened to records (yes, what vinyl was called in the rock ages) that had stories on them.  We used to listen to Bill Cosby spin tales on record and cassette or 8track.  But I think the early years of radio entertainment was the true audio drama.  And I love the scene in Christmas Story where he is listening to Little Orphan Annie so he can be part of the exclusive club...

National Candy Corn Day - so...my most hated candy ever...  (shudder...ugh)  is some of people's favorite.  I just don't understand it - it has no flavor, it's just sugar - I'd rather get my sweet in other ways.  sigh.  Anyway, thought you'd have fun with the video of how it's made...

Buy a Doughnut Day - was started in 1938 by the Salvation Army to honor the 'doughnut lassies' who handed out doughnuts during WWII.
Apparently this is more widely recognized on June 1st...but it doesn't hurt to buy doughnuts today.  :)  Think Bowman's will have any doughnuts left at 7pm tonight???  sigh.

Have a great day!

And it's Friday...at last!

This has been a crazy week.  I'm not sure if it's the combination of work and facepainting, which I haven't really had before, or if it's work and the kids all pumped for halloween...but whatever the combination, it's been there!
so...here's some things to lighten up your day...help you ease into the weekend so to speak...

Frankenstein Friday - everyone is gearing up for Halloween...so hopefully you are watching all your favorite scary movies.  Depending on who you talk to, this is supposed to take place on the 29th, but I'm sure this was to rhyme with Friday bit.  They did it to honor Mary Shelley.  I'm not a huge fan of Frankenstein, but hey, I know there are loads who do.  My favorite version is in Van Helsing.  :)
and I have to share a clip of my old time favorite TV show when I was a kid...  (along with I love Lucy and Giligans Island...)  The Munsters!!

Howl at The Moon Night - my hubby says he's a werewolf, so if you are one of the pack, this is your night to howl.  It should be almost a full moon...it seemed pretty full this morning.  I think my favorite werewolf is the one from Hotel Transylvania... if the one in Harry Potter hadn't been so weird, I would have liked it too.  The one in Van Helsing is good...

International Bandanna Day - international bandana day??  Okay, really folks.  Bandana's are just squares of cloth that we use to accessorise or in the most real sence, as a hankercheif.

National Breadstix (Bread Sticks) Day - one of my favorite things...  in fact I made some on Wednesday.  We used to make awesome bread sticks when we had our pizza store.  We made alfredo cheese sticks...and they were to die for.  sigh.  we had loads of fun with our bread sticks...we'd twist them...we'd add cinnamon sugar to them...  If I had time tonight I'd make some more, but I'm gonna be face painting and then going to a family party.  If you make some up, let me know!!

National Pumpkin day-  I didn't think there was more than one pumpkin day - I mean, isn't thanksgiving kind of a pumpkin day??  I love pretty much everything pumpkin.  Don't you??  Pumpkin bread, pie, cookies...  I think I'm hungry.

National Pretzel day - did you know these were invented by monks in 610 ad to encourage children to memorize bible verses???  I had no idea.  The name came from an Italian word that means children praying, because the shape is similar to folded arms.  The Nibble has a great background on them... Well... that's your bit of trivia for the day.  :)  Another reason to like pretzels!!  Do you like the hard ones or the soft chewy ones?

and because it's Friday we have to have some party music...or something.  So - in the spirit of Halloween and the movie we were watching recently... Hocus Pocus!

unfortunately it's really grainy and not the best... sorry.  so, then there's another great one that we haven't watched in a while, but I do love this song!!!

that's right - Beetlejuice!!
What's your favorite not horror Halloween movie??  Of course you could do a Harry Potter marathon...
or there's the old original wonderful show...the Adams Family!

Have a great weekend!!

It's Wednesday!

And for some of us, that is actually a Friday, as we get a long weekend.  kind of awesome!!  :)
Hope you all had a great day yesterday...I sure did. We kind of spent too much time watching old clips of I Love Lucy as my hubby didn't watch them like I did when we were kids, so he hadn't seen lots of them.  Like the one with vitameatavegamin, lol.
Today has a whole list of stuff we can play with if you're bored.

Information Overload Day - I think that is most of society today, which everything being electronic and all the gadgets that are supposed to help us with out day.  How many of you have Alexis or Echo or Google in your house???  We don't!!!  Read 1984, lol.

International Print Day - This is kind of interesting, I've never heard of this one.  I support it whole heartedly!!  I don't know how many of you are purists when it comes to books, but I like a physical book much more than an ebook version.  This site highlights what makes it such an important aspect of our lives.  Check it out...books are much better on the written page!  Visit the Library and check out something good to read.  :)

Mulligan Day - this is for you golfers out there.... enjoy your day!

National Fossil Day - like fossils?  join your friends and have a fossil party!  My son used to want to be a paleontologist...  sigh.  At least we don't have a bunch of fossils in the house...

National Pasta Day - this is an awesome day...we had pasta last night for dinner, so probably won't tonight, but I would highly recommend it!!  lol

National Playing Card Collectors Day - are you one of those that collects playing cards?  My daughter likes to buy a deck wherever we go and has one from several places.  She isn't a world traveler, so nothing exotic.  the most far away are Alaska and Hawaii...but it's kind of fun.  My hubby has a deck of Star Trek cards because my son found them online.  Do you like to collect them?

Pay Back A Friend Day - all of you have a friend that has saved your butt in one way or another...today is the day to pay them back.  Let them know you have their back as much as they had yours.  Random Acts of Kindness would be good, lol.  take them out to lunch or buy them some ice cream...whatever would be special to them.  A movie is always good!  :)

National Take Your Parents To Lunch Day
- Yes!  Too bad my kids never take me up on this one...

Wear Something Gaudy Day - well, if I didn't have to look professional at work this would be fun.  Can you wear something gaudy?  When I worked at Jacob Lake Lodge after my mission, we had halloween at the lodge and my friend and I dressed up in the kitchen.  (I was one of the cooks.)  Unfortunately, it kind of put off some of the customers...I was wearing a pair of sunglasses that were kind of an early version of Jordy LaForge's visor on Start Trek Next Gen...lol.  It was pretty funny the comments we got, asking if I was a blind cook, lol.  sigh...  oh well, some people have no imagination, right?  But gaudy is easy to tell!!  :)

Well...no videos today, so kind of boring - but hopefully you'll have plenty to entertain you.  Have a good one!!

It's bosses day! and other great stuff...

So - yesterday was I love Lucy Day.  How did I miss that???  I used to watch I Love Lucy every day when I was a kid.  I didn't like the show as much when they did it in color, lol, but it was good.  This is a good one for educators...

This is another one that I'll always remember, lol.

Department Store Day -  I guess this is the day to go shopping and celebrate the department store.  If Woolworths was still around, that's where we'd go...or maybe Mervyns!!  I grew up with them...  ðŸ˜Š

Dictionary Day - This is the day that Noah Webster was born...so we celebrate the dictionary in his honor.  My autistic son loves the dictionary.  He purchased one off ebay that was printed in 1932.  It's almost 10 inches thick, and he loves it.  It's one big heavy thing...  ugh.  Has some great stuff in it though...it really is a fascinating read - especially on how things and meanings of things have changed since then.
Global Cat Day - cats!  I have always been a cat person, but since I've gotten older they are more tolerated, lol.  I guess I'm not big on litter boxes and scratched furniture anymore.  sigh.  But I still love to watch kittens and the purrr of a cat...  ðŸ˜Š   there are some fun videos of cats out there though...so if you have time later, you'll want to watch them.  ðŸ˜Š

Well...hope you all have a great day.  Most of us have just one day left and then a long weekend.  Hope you have a nice relaxing one!!!

It's Raining!!

What a wonderful thing!  I hadn't realized how dry we'd had it until it started raining yesterday.  It's awesome.  :)
I really love seeing the snow in the mountains.  I know everyone is dreading when it gets down to the valleys, but I'm looking forward to it.
I thought we needed a little mid-week cheer me up...so I thought I'd toss out the fun stuff for today.  There was several items on Brownilocks...but most of it was somber, depressing stuff.  One seemed a little stupid... International day for Natural disaster reduction...what??  How in the heck are we supposed to reduce natural disasters??  they're nature... sigh.  Anyway - so, here's the ones I wanted to share.  :)

International Top Spinning Day - This is a day sponsored by the Spinning Top & Yo-Yo Museum of Burlington, Wisconsin to celebrate the fact that the world is a big spinning top.  Kind of fun.  Good thing to go play with grandkids!  I'm wondering if we have any tops...we have a couple of dreidels, aren't they kind of a top??

National Angel Food Cake Day - I think everyone likes Angel Food cake...and I usually like it best with pudding and whipped topping in the form of trifle!!  What's your favorite way to eat it??   I think this is the key lime version we made...  We've done lemon and chocolate versions too.  YUM

National Bring Your Teddy Bear To Work & School Dayokay, this would have been good for my granddaughter, she loves stuffed animals.  But bringing one to staff meeting this morning might not have gone over as a professional thing, lol.   I don't know...might have relieved some of the stress...  Did you bring yours??

National Handbag Day - I left this on because many of my co-workers are into purses or  handbags.  They have several of them and switch them out throughout the year.  I have one and run it into the ground...it's always a pain when I have to find a new one to replace the old one.  ugh.  I'm looking for a workbag right now...fortunately it's not emergency status yet.  :)   What kind of handbag or purse do you like?  pockets?  lots of storage?  wide enough for a tablet?  small enough to toss over your shoulder?  one of those little 'mini' backpack kinds?

Naval Academy Day - I'm not really into the different military academy's, but I figure we support the military, we probably need to support the schools.  Although...my favorite part of the naval academy is the piece that's in the movie Meet the Mormons with the coach back east known for no meetings on Sunday.  I think it's awesome.

Whatever you do - Hope it's an awesome day.  Enjoy!

Happy Monday!

And Canadian Thanksgiving, for those of us who like to celebrate anything to do with food, lol.
Actually, my hubby lived there for 2 years, and so we've celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving since we got married.  Since our children have become older, it's our family Thanksgiving, and the one in November is when they can go to in-laws or do their own and we go to my sisters.  We figure it's a win-win...  two thanksgiving dinners!! I was going to attach a post from Studio C where they have a thanksgiving, but it's not the one I was thinking of.  I know many of us have things we are thankful for, so hope this brings many to mind.
I'm thankful for all of you!

For those of you with federal connections, they have the day off today as it's Columbus Day...or Indigenous Peoples Day...(really??) so my son is home. It's kind of fun because all my kids (that are living at home) are in charge of making dinner today.  It's kind of nice knowing that I don't have to make sure everything is done when I get home from work...though that will probably still be a stress, lol.

Anyway - it's also National Pierogi day...which seems Canadian as well.  Right??  We love those dumpling style things, but haven't had them in a long time- too much effort to make from scratch, and haven't found decent one's worth buying recently.  sigh.

And National Salmon Day - you'd think that would be in August when they are running, but whatever.  Good stuff anyway...
So, it's Monday, a new week...a newish month (some of us were playing all last week and so, it's new to us, lol) and a wonderful coolness of season.
Hope you have a wonderful day!

What's in a name??

So...for those of you who have read my blog and not known what the title was about, I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latte-day Saints.  I have had the title of this blog (musings of an LDS writing mom) for years...and never really thought about it.  Since our prophet has declared we need to be more valiant in the way we are referred, I realized that I too had taken the name of Jesus Christ out of my reference to my religion.
I have now changed that.
Thus...the new name of my blog is now 'Musings from a writing grandma and faithful disciple of Jesus Christ'.  This will be the last post from this blog title...hopefully you will still be able to find my posts, should you want to read them.  I hope you do - I'll still have randomness and holidays to celebrate.  :)
Have a wonderful day!

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
