Happy day...it's Thursday!

I meant to post yesterday, but things got crazy and it didn't happen.  :)   Now it's another day, and so hopefully I'll get to other things. I hope you've had a great week so far!  We've had warmer weather, which has been nice, but I think Oregon has taken our snow and we've been getting their rain...no fair!!  lol
My hubby and I got to go see How to Train Your Dragon 3, and it was sooo good.
They did a great job in ending the series.  made me cry...lol.   Anyway - if you've been thinking about going to see it, you should.  And, I think it's worth it to see in the theater.  The animation is amazing as usual.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naW9U8MiUY0
I tried to share the trailer, but it wouldn't let me, so here's a link...

There aren't as many things to celebrate, but there are some...

Floral Design Day -  This is kind of cool...this day has some serious history to make floral design.  Here's a link that tells you more about it...  I have a niece that does floral design when she has spare time - and a sister-in-law.
It's kind of amazing how they can throw things together and make it look awesome.  I'm lucky if I can stick my home grown flowers in a vase and have it look as if they are flowers...lol

National Chili Day -  What is it about chili?  Some people are huge fans, some like it as a condiment, and some people do chili competitions.  There are huge chili festivals all over the west - and so many different kinds of chili - white chili, spicy chili, ugh.  Chili is a
cold weather dish to me, and I like doctoring up the canned version as the homemade never really works out for me.  I am not a big fan of white chili, and I like lots of meat in mine.  What kind do you like?  I also have to have cornbread with mine...  :)

National Tooth Fairy Day - everyone has grown up with the idea of a tooth fairy.  Whether you believe in it or not, it's fun to tease a child with it.  We used to tell our kids to put their teeth under the pillow, and then eventually it faded away.  We never had to tell them she wasn't real - like you have to face with Santa Clause.  (sorry folks)  If you like the movie versions, which one do you like best?  The one from Rise of the Guardians?  She's a cutie.  :)

Or the Rock?  I had almost forgotten about him doing this bit.

Of course, there is also the one in the Santa Clause movies...

anyway - I also like this bit:

National Chocolate Souffle Day - for those of us chocolate fans...it's chocolate souffle day.  I don't know about you - but I'm not into making souffle.  I think I'll stick with ice cream or pudding, lol.  But if you like fancy stuff, you might try making this.  The Nibble has a recipe that looks intriguing...

well - hopefully you'll have a great day.  I'm glad I could be part of it.  :)

Good Morning Monday!

It's a great day, isn't it?  I hope you had a good weekend.  We did, though it seemed short, as usual.  :)   We were babysitting grandkids again.  But I did get my kitchen a little more organized!  That's always a plus.  We also got to go help clean the Bountiful Temple, which I always love doing.  It's amazing how much cleaning the house of the Lord will inspire you to clean your own home.  :)  We were spring cleaning a custodial closet.  I mean, the whole bit, emptying it out, wiping down walls and shelves, and putting it all back in.  I would never have thought!!  So, now you know, lol.
Anyway - there isn't much to share on a celebration note - but there is food!  Three things came up when I looked it up today.

National Cupcake day in Canada - for those of you who like cupcakes, hey, we'll borrow from other countries!  We do it all the time.  Besides, Canada is our big brother to the north, and we love them.  ;)

National Clam Chowder day - yum!  I love clam chowder.  I was trying to figure out how I could make some and not have my hubby running to the take out line... lol.  He's not a big clam chowder fan.  Which is your favorite?  there are a couple of different kinds, but the one that's thick, creamy, full of clams...that's mine.

National Chocolate Covered Nuts day - and of course, you already know that I'm a big chocolate covered anything fan.  I love chocolate covered nuts, especially dark chocolate.  My hubby makes sure I'm always supplied.  Which is your favorite?

I'm not big on cupcakes, but I love clam chowder and chocolate covered nuts have to be probably one of my favorites!!  So, hopefully you'll have something that will make your day better.  There was a sister that said if she was having problems being positive, she'd put on a bikini and look at herself in the mirror.  Then she'd tell herself that it had to be all uphill from there!!

I don't think my life ever needs that drastic of a reminder (lol), but if that's what it takes, try to have a good one!  :)

Welcome to winter wonderland!

or at least, that's what it feels like this week.  We've had some awesome snow this week, and people have started complaining.  Um, people, we're still in winter here!  Why do you think the Olympics are held in February??  And we need the moisture here, anyway - so no complaints from me.  :)

It's gorgeous today, with the sun coming out and sparkling all over the snow.  It was really pretty on Tuesday, the sun was out, but it was snowing little light sparkly flakes...and it was sooo cool.  It was like everything was being dusted with fairy dust.

Well... there wasn't anything I wanted to suggest to celebrate today, except one thing.  It's National Sticky Bun Day!! When I looked it up on The Nibble, they had a little discourse over what makes a sticky bun versus a cinnamon roll.  See what you think.  It always  makes me think of Ground Hog Day, (the movie) where she's telling the waitress that the sticky buns are to die for...
How is that for something to run out and eat??  Personally, I don't know that I've ever had one.  I'm thinking I'll have to see what I can come up with today.  I've always had cinnamon rolls, but nothing that was classified as a sticky bun.

And for those of you who are trying to be/eat healthy... well, have you tried freeze dried apple slices??  they are awesome too...  :)

Have a good one!

You survived the day of Love!

and if no one said anything to you....Happy Valentine's day!  We don't do a lot to celebrate the day at my house because we don't like the commercialism that surrounds it - but I do like to let people know they are loved and appreciated.  We had a nice romantic evening at home, in the basement with the tv showing a crackling fire.  It was awesome. I made simple chicken cordon bleu, baby potatoes and apsaragus.  We had appetizers and key lime pie for desert with sparkling apple cider to drink... pretty romantic, huh?  :)  And then we had someone come buy our old truck...so that was fun too, lol.  It was sooo nice to get it out of the yard!!  How was your day??  I hope it was full of love and chocolate.  :)

I still love this sketch by Studio C from last year...  It says a LOT about Valentine's day.

Today there are a couple of silly things...and a couple of clips I want to share.

National Gum Drop Day - if you like gum drops, this is your day.  Personally, I'm not a big fan of them.  My uncle loves gum drop cookies my sister makes, so that's about the only way I've eaten them.  She used to make big batches and freeze them then cook them before they went to lake shoshone.  that brings back memories...  :)

National Hippo Day - every body celebrate the hippo!!  I love this clip from Disney's Fantasia...

No One Eats Alone Day - I'm not sure what their version of this is, but I think it goes along with the new initiative in the elementaries that no one needs to be alone during recess or lunch.  Everyone can be a friend.  I think that should go for adults too - none of us like to eat alone (unless we're trying to read a good book, lol)
I love the movie Wonder.  It's taken us a while to see it, but I watched it on Amazon Prime, and had to have my family watch it.  They all loved the wonderful story of friendship and growth.  I know some of it was corney and not realistic, but it was awesome.  I really liked this lunch scene...

Women in Blue Jeans Days - I had hoped to post the clip from Studio C where they go through women's jeans over a 100 years, but I can't find it.  sigh.  I guess they're trying to say that women look best in blue jeans?  I'm not sure why it's today and tomorrow, and I'm not really caring.  I don't wear jeans right now...something to do with this...
I sooo agree.  I haven't been able to wear good old fashioned jeans in a long time.  sigh.  I'm not sure I ever will again - but I do like to think so.
Anyway - there is a specific website that is talking about women in blue jeans...   Apparently celebrating the rural woman.  Well, here's to ya!

Well...hope you had a great week - that today is awesome and that you have a wonderful long weekend.  I think we all need it.

It's still winter...

I get tired of titling my posts the same.  Happy Friday, Happy Monday, Hump Wednesday...yada yada.  I'm thinking you're tired of seeing it!!  So I'm trying to be more inventive in the greeting...  We'll see how it works.  Hopefully you're having a great day - it's one of the days I like.  Still kind of snowy-ish...still snow on the ground, still a little nip in the air, but the roads are mostly clear and travel is safe.  Life is good.  :)

I've had just a little time this week, that's why you've been able to hear from me each day so far.  I don't know how long this will last, I'm usually busier than this during my day.  guess we just take advantage, right??

So, not a lot of stuff that's exciting, but a couple of fun items to celebrate today.

Ballet Day - I love ballet.  When I was a little girl, it was my dream to be a ballet dancer.  I'm talking like 5 years old, lol.  My father, who wanted me to be happy, even though he knew it was unlikely given 1- that I was a heavy child and not the most graceful, and 2- that we didn't have the kind of money it would take to have lessons; purchased me a slipper box.  It was the most wonderful thing I'd ever seen, and I would carry it around.  I don't remember ever having slippers, or ever dancing, lol, but I loved that box.  And my dad.  :)  Anyway - one of my favorite ballet dancers is Mikhail Baryshnikov.  He is simply amazing.  I loved him in Nutcracker, and in White Nights.  Not necessarily a ballet movie, but it showed grace.

Dry Bean Day -  I think this is a reason to have homemade chili... but don't forget to soak the beans!!  One more reason to love my electric pressure cooker, lol.  You don't have to presoak!!  Or, you don't have to soak all night!  However you cook them, dry beans are the most economical way of cooking.

Harry Potter Book Night - I'm guessing this is a promotion of getting back to the book...away from electronics type thing.  Personally, I love the books far more than the movies - though the movies have rounded out the characters a little for me.  Tonight would be a good night to curl up on the couch and read.  No way you could get through more than one...and perhaps not even one, depending on your reading speeds.  But enjoy!!  I guess you could always cheat and just watch the movies, lol

Laura Ingalls Wilder Day - Of the authors I read in my childhood, she is one of my favorites.  I am currently having my granddaughter read the first book of the Little House on the Prairie series, and it's been fun having her little voice reading it out loud.  I ask her if she understands a word, or sometimes she asks what it is they're talking about.  It's such a great read.  I highly recommend them!!  She was an amazing person, and a lot changed in her world from the time she was born.

National Periodic Table Day - I wasn't going to mention anything about this, I'm not a science aficionado, but I know some of you are into science and would like nothing better than a reason to give a shout out for the elements.  Here ya go...  Be the Big Bang in your life...  :)  I tried to post a periodic table meme that shows a tetris like feel, lol, but I couldn't get it to copy.  You can find it...

Wave All Your Fingers At Your Neighbor's Day -  We don't have fences in my neighborhood.  Most of the houses are on acre lots, and it's a little expensive to have them.  Some of the newer ones have put them up...and one on the corner has a cement thing that only goes down the public side... but my hubby says fences make for bad neighbors.  I'm not sure - I grew up with fences, they set clear boundaries to peoples property and stuff.  But since today is wave all your fingers, (not just one, apparently) I'm reminded of Wilson from Tool Time.  He was always the best neighbor...

National Fettuccini Alredo day - and last... we come to one of my MOST favorite foods (besides pizza).  I love alfredo sauce.  Don't you???  I mean...doesn't everyone??  It's so creamy, and lucious and it goes with noodles or breadsticks... I love it mostly with chicken and broccoli, but it's good with shrimp or just about anything.  I found a recipe that doesn't call for cream (which is probably sacrilege, but ya know...) that I'm hoping to try tonight.  I'll let you know how it goes...

Well, that's today.  Hope it goes great for you!  Here's a little sunshine for you...

Welcome to snowy Wednesday!

Wow!  It's been awesome, some of the snow around the west.  Tahoe has tons of snow, which is great - they need the water.  :)   We have some, but not as much as we'd like.  It's been fun seeing what everyone is getting though.  My hubby actually gets a snow day today!!  He hasn't had one in forever, so I'm excited for him.  I'm bummed though...we don't.  sigh.  :)   Once again...I do like my job!!  It just would have been fun to be home with him all day though...curled up ...who am I kidding.  We'd probably both be doing stuff in different parts of the house.  double sigh.
Anyway - not much to celebrate today, but a couple of fun things.

Canadian Maple Syrup Day - I know I should be more sharing of maple syrup made here in US, but Canada is our friendly neighbor to the north, and we share many things!!  One of which is yummy syrup.  I like the stuff made here too, but just sayin...  :)  did you know that you can use maple syrup for sweetener instead of sugar?  It's awesome.  I find that my sweetness level has gone down, which is nice.  I don't have to have as much to make it taste sweet anymore.  And...that means maple syrup is great!  try it on Cream of Wheat some time - yum!!  Anyway - there are lots of uses...but my most favorite??  On pancakes or waffles!!

Play Monopoly Day -  in some parts of the state it's a snow day today.  That means it's the perfect day to play Monopoly!  That stupid game can take hours to play...especially if one of the players is like my daughter and just likes to keep things going...because she likes to play, not because she wants to win.  It drives her siblings crazy.  :)   Which version do you like?
We have a peanuts version that we like to play, and a Lord of the Rings version.  I think I like the Peanuts version over the original, but I like the Millionaire Monopoly the least...ugh.

National Chopsticks Day - you would think yesterday would have been chopsticks day when it was Chinese New year, but I guess they wanted things to linger... I can't seem to find anything that says why today is chopsticks day, and apparently it only started being mentioned in 2016, so it's a relative new comer to the scene.  If you want to know some trivia, theNibble.com has some fun stuff.  My oldest daughter (who loves anything oriental) has several pairs of chopsticks - metal, laminated, wood...  most are the Japanese style (round and pointed) though it's my understanding that they are supposed to be shorter and hers seem to be long.  She also uses them in her hair once in a while... lol
These are two of my favorite scenes involving chopsticks...

and

Although from what I've read...they wouldn't be eating porridge with chopsticks...and the bacon would have been crumbled, lol.  Who cares...it's funny, right?  :)

National Frozen Yogurt Day - This is a good one!!  I love frozen yogurt - do you?  The stuff at Costco is a little on the sweet side, but I like the stuff you can buy in the store.  There is a difference in brands...some seem a bit more tart than others and it makes me wonder what type of yogurt they use.  And...despite rumors that used to circulate when it was first introduced, frozen yogurt does NOT taste like ice cream...is NOT better than ice cream - is just different than ice cream.  It's a separate thing on it's own.  It's good stuff though...  if you haven't tried some, you should.  Have it with apple pie or chocolate syrup.

Well.. whatever you end up doing today, be it having a snowball fight, or staying inside cozy and warm with hot chocolate and a book or movie - have a great one!

Happy New Year!

Yes, today is Chinese New Year...

So that's a great reason to have Chinese food!!  What is your favorite?  Besides sweet and sour chicken...yum...  I'm wondering if I can find some of the long noodles...  but I figure I realize I'm not Chinese, have zero ancestry of Chinese, but I like to party whenever the excuse presents itself.  How about you??  I mean, why else do you think I share all these silly holidays with you??  Because I like to party.  :)   So, in the midst of a snow storm...we're going with Chinese New Year, lol.  What's your plan for the day??

Shower With A Friend Day - I figure I shower with a friend every time I shower, but we probably don't want to go into that too much.  Suffice to say my hubby and I like to share the shower....  :)
I'm wondering if they're saying soap is a friend, lol

Weatherman's [Weatherperson's] Day - I've been surprised the past couple of weeks.  When the weather says it's going to start snowing around 2 pm...and then right at 2 pm some flakes start happening... And then today - winter storm saying going to start around noon... well, sure enough, about 11:58 or so, it started coming down.  wow...  they're finally getting the hang of reading the radar, right??  So tell the weather people that they're awesome!
and we have to remember last Saturday was Gound Hog day, so we have to remember Phil...

( I know...some of you would rather forget...)

World Nutella Day- I'm not sure why it's a world day, I guess everyone around the world likes hazelnuts and chocolate?  I'm not a huge fan of it, I like my peanut butter, and I like to get my sweet other ways...  But I do like hazel flavor in my hot cocoa!!  :)

National chocolate fondue day - now this is a day to celebrate.  I love fondue...and I love it when it's chocolate.  We love to do fondue as a family - but the cheese is a little on the pricey side, so it doesn't happen very often.
Chocolate fondue, on the other hand, is just melted chocolate chips with a little warmth and yum....dip all sorts of things.  We might have to try some with the freeze dried fruits...  which by the way - we freeze dried grapes over the weekend because we were told they were amazing.  Have you tried them?  We did red and green.  The red ones were NOT yummy...ugh.  My hubby said it was because they were too sweet.  The green ones, were awesome!  so...go figure.

and have to add... yesterday was stuffed mushrooms day, which is something I just think is amazing...  I didn't have time to do anything about it, but doesn't mean you can't have them today!  :)

Well...hope you have an awesome day, and are warm and comfy.  I'm wishing we didn't have pack meeting tonight... lol

and I have to leave ya with a laugh...

Mr. Brooks just keeps coming up with crazy stuff.  What have your kids taken from home to school?

Friday, February 01, 2019

It's really Friday!!

Finally...it really is Friday.  I don't know why I was sooo anxious for this weekend, it's not like we're going anywhere or doing anything out of the ordinary - so possibly just because as I expressed yesterday, it's been a long week. :)

So...  didn't get to have any hot cocoa yesterday...:(   and no croissants...so this has been a bummer week as far as that goes.  Did you enjoy the celebrations??  Well, today being the first day of February...the month of love, so to speak...
We have loads to talk about and celebrate.  I hope you had fun with the video clips...  I always want to go watch the movies when I post stuff from a movie.  Instead of watching Ferris Bueller's Day off we were watching SING.  lol...well, that's not a bad substitute.  I love the songs in that one.

Bubble Gum Day -  if you like bubble gum, and I like blowing bubbles, but not really likeing the gum...then this is your day.  It makes me think of Night at the Museum...

I wish I could find where he ends up with gum all over his face, lol.

Candy-Making Day -  candy making in February??  I never think of making candy now...we make it in December.  Who makes candy now, raise your hands!!  I'll come visit you..., lol.   What would you make, do you think?  Little heart shaped chocolates?  chocolate fudge?  Hmmm

Change Your Password Day - for those of you who need reminders...this is for you!!  I have a hubby that reminds em...work that reminds me every 90 days!!  argh.  I don't remember to change it at home, which I should do... sigh.  So - good to note for myself after all.  :)   CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS!!!  There - you've had your public service announcement for the day.

Decorating With Candy Day - well, if you want to decorate something with candy...there ya go.  This makes me think of those poster candy cards that you give someone to ask them to a dance, or on a date, or tell them how special you think they are, etc.  Are they talking about decorating cupcakes, your house or what??  More info, people!!

G.I. Joe Day - so - support our vets, is that what this day is about??  What about G.I Jane??  I'm sure it's a generic term at this point.  For those of us who always think of the movie...

Bruce Willis always kicks butt.  :)  Have you seen him in RED?  I remember watching GI Joe and thinking he was old...lol

Give Kids A Smile Day - I think this is about helping with dental care, but I think it works just to give kids a smile anyway, don't you?  Everyone's in a happier place with a smile.

Hula in The Coola Day - I think everyone in the midwest to east could do this with ease...although, I think they'd need to wear the hula skirts OVER their coats!!  This is from 6 years ago, but still funny.  :)

International Face & Body Art Day:   FACEPAINTING!  I'm not really into the whole body art thing, but I do arms and faces!!  Celebrate!!  Get your face on!!

National Get Up Day - if you are reading this, and you are no longer in bed, then you accomplished what this day is all about.  It's about getting out of bed and participating in life.  Like in the movie the Sorcerers Apprentice... You are definitely participating!

Spunky Old Broads Day -  This has Maxine written all over it!!

Wear Red Day - I just don't have anything to wear to work that's professional enough, so I never make it wearing red.  Do you??  I am in schools all the time that today they get to wear the school t-shirt and stuff.  That would sure be nice...  but anyway - wear Red...fight heart disease.  Isn't that the reason???

Working Naked Day - If I could work from home, this would be a great thing.  My hubby would stay home and we'd both work naked!!  Of course, we might not get a lot of work done...  I know my boss wouldn't appreciate it if I showed up naked.. 😳😳

National Baked Alaska Day - if you're into baked ice cream, have at it.  I've never really seen the thrill of this desert.  I've had it a couple of times, and sure, it's yummy...ice cream is yummy!!  But I'd rather have a lice bowl of ice cream with chocolate sauce and whipped topping and nuts.  I mean... if I got a choice....  It's fun on a cruise to Alaska where the waitstaff parade around with them above their heads...  :)

but you know, everything's funner on a cruise...

Have a great weekend!!

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
