It's Friday!

Hi all!  It's Friday...you made it.  This has been the craziest week!!  My weekend isn't going to be much calmer, but ya know.  My hubby's bday is Monday and Sunday is a family dinner...so it never ends.  If I could whisk him away somewhere for his bday that would sure be nice....for both of us!!  :)

I'm kind of torn on the whole rain bit...we're supposed to have quite the rain storm this weekend...same time I'm doing the first booth at Thanksgiving Point.  sigh.  If you come see me and mention my blog, I'll give you 40% off any painting!!!  hmm... that doesn't sound desperate, does it?  lol

Well... there's some fun stuff to talk about today, so I'll get to sharing so you can get to celebrating!

Ancestor Appreciation Day - I guess this would be a good day to dig out the old family records, journals or photos and talk about all the memories or what you know.  Perhaps even look up relatives you don't know on Ancestry.com or something.  I've found that ancestors are pretty cool.  What's that old saying...you can't know where you're going if you don't know where you've been?  Kind of works with your peopled past.

Crush A Can Day - I'm sure this has something to do with recycling and stuff, but I figured it worked for the whole be a man, show you can crush a can.  You know, this used to be a big thing when cans were made of tin and it was a real show of strength to crush them.  Now a days, anyone can crush a pop can.  How about a soup can??
This is a fun video of how to crush cans with heat and water...  if you have kids, they might get a kick out of this.

Google's Birthday -  well, happy bday to one of the best search engines ever.  I mean...everyone knows you ask google for everything!!  Have you ever seen the If Google was a Man videos??  They are pretty funny.  There's a lot of 'college humor' or should I say, language and some themeatic stuff that you might not like (I know I don't!!  we don't watch them anymore, I think there are 7 altogether now?)  I wish I could edit them!  but this one bit we like (and it's clean)  you don't have to watch the rest of it...!!!!  If you ask Siri or Alexa any voice commands, you'll totally get this.

Love Note Day - have a significant other?  Spouse?  This is the day to be a little extra romantic and let them know how much you love them.  I'm of the opinion that you can never say it too many times.  We say it on the phone...in a text every morning...as we say goodbye...  sigh.  It's awesome.  but you don't have to say I Love You...you can reiterate all the wonderful things about them that endeared them to you.  How funny they are, how amazingly handsome (or gorgeous), how sweet with children...etc.  Go on...you know you want to!

National Brave Day - Apparently this day is dedicated to women to help other women.  I think it should be for all people who go out of their way to help others.  First thing that came to mind, of course, was the movie Brave - but they don't have a clip of what I wanted to show, so, no clip.  But since all of you are pretty brave in my view - this day is for you.  :)

National Scarf Day:  This is so funny!  My granddaughter wanted to wear a scarf to school today.  And she didn't even know it was the day to do it!!  Talk about in style...  :)  Do you like scarfs?  I have several, but I hate things around my neck, so I rarely wear them.  I really like the ones with fringe...

Native American Day - I'll have to mention this to my grandchildren.  Their father is part Dakota Soux or something like that, so they are part as well.  I wonder how much he's told them about their ancestors??  I'm not sure he knows much about them...  We went to the Crazy Horse monument when we went to see our son in Minnesota.  It's a cool building, with lots of artifacts and information...but they haven't progressed far on the monument itself.  I can't imagine that kind of undertaking.  This photo shows the model of the sculpture and the sculpture in the background.

Vegan Baking Day - I don't know why this would be a day to celebrate, but perhaps they're trying to get people to think of other things to bake or bake with??  I'm not sure.  I guess if you're vegan, you don't bake with eggs, honey or milk...  so what would you bake??  bananas....beans... flour.... applesause...  it would work.  :)

World Tourism Day - everyone seems to benefit from tourism... (or as we liked to call them when I worked at Jackson Lake Lodge...tourons) so it's a big industry.  I feel bad for that company that just went bankrupt in England...that's not good.  Do you like to travel??  It's one of my favorite things.  Not necessarily the driving...or perhaps the long flights... but I LOVE cruises...and the beach, and scenery. We loved Vancouver Island!    So...  good stuff.  Did I mention I like travel?  LOL   I can't wait for my hubby to go to Hawaii with me.  I think he'd like it...  Where's you're favorite place to go??

National chocolate milk day -  Coolness, did you know that Cadbury was actually the founder of what we know today as chocolate milk??  It was sold as a health thing (kind of like Coke) and wasn't as sweet as we know it, but it was chocolate mixed with milk.  I think of how far the humble cocao bean has come... and I'm sure glad we have it!!! I love chocolate milk...I purposefully don't buy it because I would drink the whole gallon by myself, lol.

National Corned Beef Hash day  - and last... one of my favorite dishes introduced to me by my best friend.  I had never tried it until I was married and my friend mentioned that they were having it for dinner.  I was like, what??/  What is that?  And so I discovered you could buy cans of corned beef.  I didn't realize how much sodium is contained in that little can...  or how expensive the stuff is!!!  but, it's sure good!!  We haven't had it in a LONG time...  partially because of the sodium, and partially because I can't bear to pay so much for a small can.  But...I'm thinking we'll have to have it one night soon.  It's the perfect cold night comfort food.  :)  Especially with an egg on top.  I guess it could also pass for breakfast food, right?

Well...  hope you have a wonderful day and find something to celebrate and enjoy.

I'll leave you with Mr. Brooks suggestion on how to start your day...  I think the granola over fruity pebbles is a crack up...

and - the latest that I've seen from Piano Guys...

Happy hump day!

It's Wednesday!!  The middle of the week...the day we all take a deep breath and realize that we survived Monday and Tuesday and oh look, it's Wednesday!!  lol I'm glad it's Wednesday, but I'm a little torn...Saturday I'm going to have a booth at the Harvest Festival at Thanksgiving Point and I'm hoping that people will want to buy stuff...  you never know... I'm not sure if they're going to want fall stuff or Christmas stuff.  What do you think?  What would you be looking to buy?  What would catch your eye??

sigh.

Anyway - It's great weather right now...I love these temps!!  Don't you just love fall??  I'm waiting for the leaves to start changing.  I want to take a drive up in the mountains this year.  KSL did an article on where to go for fall colors, and I thought it was a great idea.

So - some fun stuff today that I wanted to mention.

Math Story Telling Day - math story telling...have I mentioned how I hate story problems?? It's like there is always a trick in there to make it impossible to solve correctly.  I always got them wrong.  I was hoping Gerry Brooks would have something, but no... so I found this little video that shows you how to solve them.  I had to laugh though...look at this problem!!  The biggest problem is the friend borrowing money for her rent!  She can't afford to pay rent, she needs to move back home, lol.  If you are loaning that much money to a friend, how are you going to pay rent??  I mean...real life here, people.  :)

National One-Hit Wonder Day - wow...all those great one hit wonders that made you curious why they never had another hit song!!  ?  What happened to them?  I grew up with so many of them...  This was one we sang in 6th grade music class...

You probably didn't notice in the movie A-Team that this little song was another one hit wonder...

And everyone knows this song...  I think it's funny they have Johnny Depp from Benny and Joon playing in the background.  I had forgotten that was in there!!

Did you know that Eye of the Tiger was a  one hit wonder?  And the Boys are Back in Town?  Amazing how they happen...

National Tune-up Day - Everyone go get your oil changed and your engine tuned up!!  The calendar says that's what you have to do today, right?  We must be lemmings... lol.  Well, I guess I'm one of them, but I've already had that done, so no worries.  :)   We don't always have to do what the calendar says!!!

National Women's Health & Fitness Day - if you needed an excuse to go work out, here's your day.  I don't know why it's just women, I mean, men need health and fitness too, but you know how these calendar things work.  Guys get to be lazy today... lol

National Crab Meat Newberg Day - The food stuff!  You know I always try to find the food holiday, and today it's stuff that I don't think many of us could afford, or would want to do, lol.  Have you ever had Crab Newberg?  I haven't.  We don't even eat real crab...we eat the whitefish imitation stuff in our pasta salad.  Apparently this is a very rich sauce that is poured over puff pastry or pasta.  Anyone a big fan?

National Lobster Day -  I've only had lobster like once, that I remember.  Are you a big fan??  I think it takes too much to eat, and guess I'm a little impatient when it comes to fish.  It's cooked, and on the plate.  lol
I love this scene in Julie and Julia.  I don't know what it is about this movie - but it seems to be the epitome of the foodie cook.  Every time I watch it I want to go cook something, and my kids say I'm a pretty good cook.  I also figure it's similar to me in that I blog.  No one comments on my blog, much like her's in the beginning, so that's another thing that I feel makes us soul sisters, lol.  However - the movie is much better than the book, so don't be thinking we're related or anything.  I'm much more of the creative artsy type, and wouldn't survive a year of going through that cookbook...I mean Aspics???  I wouldn't have even bothered with that chapter. What's the point??  No one eats them... (that I know)

Well... Have an awesome day!  We should all be driving safe on the way to the gym before going home to eat something fishy... right?  😏😎

It's Raining! and it's Friday...

two great things in one!!  :)

I know there are some parts of the nation that is overrun with water right now (let's all pray for Texas!!) but we've been a little short of it lately, so we're mighty glad to have some.  I'm hoping it stops tomorrow, I'm painting faces at the lantern festival in Tooele, but it can pour all it wants today!!

This has been the strangest week...  I haven't been as busy, yet I'm' still busy and haven't been able to get lots done.  My house is in dire need of cleaning!!!  ARGH.  And organizing - my desk is a mess.  I glued my latest canvas to my easel and had to really work at getting it unstuck last night, lol.  First time that's happened.  I usually pull them off before they get totally stuck.  :)

Yesterday was my youngest child's bday.  He was born on 9/19, so his bday was 9/19/2019.  We had a quick family marco polo at 9:19 pm to celebrate his bday being on 9/19/2019, lol.  Only thing that would have been a real craziness is if he'd turned 19.  NOPE.

I don't think we've ever had any of our other kids have a bday like that...   Have you?  Next year my oldest granddaughter turns 10 on the 10th...that should be fun. :)

Well, there are some fun things to commemorate or celebrate today, so lets look into them...

Bright Pink Lipstick Day - yes, as you would probably have guessed, pink lipstick day is related to cancer awareness.  So...  if you are crazy into all things cancer awareness support, this is another way to show it.  I'm afraid I'm getting tired of everything being pink...but that's the color they've run with.  We  just discovered that my oldest niece has breast cancer, and it's the ugly variety that has already gone into limph nodes and chest wall... she started extreme chemo this week, and we're all praying for her and her family.

National Doodle Day - every body doodle!!  Show your creative side.  What do you like to doodle?  When we're having a family meeting I sit and draw circles....endless rows of circles...  don't know why exactly...I wonder if it's because they are a soothing motion...  but anyway - people doodle lots of things from nonsense to great art.  Meetings inspire a lot of doodling, lol  I like this article from the Smithsonian that explains why this day was started...
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/celebrate-national-doodle-day-130000496/

National Fried Rice Day - one of my favorite things about Chinese food!!  I love fried rice.  We discovered chicken fried rice a while ago, and now that's the only kind I like.  Did you know there's also a shrimp fried rice??  It seems that there can be whatever you want in it!!  Go crazy!  I'm sure the Hawaiians have a version with spam, lol.  They love their spam!!
I like using chopsticks once in a while... but we don't make sticky enough rice to make it work well.  Do you eat yours with chopsticks?  I always figured that's why oriental people tend to be slimmer...  it's harder to eat loads when you're using chopsticks!!!  (unless you are a pro, I'm sure.)
Here's one of my favorite clips from Kung Fu Panda... they're eating dumplings instead of rice, but it's still chopsticks, lol.

National String Cheese Day - this is a relatively young day, started in 2017.  I'm sure it was because they wanted to ensure the continued purchase of the item, lol.  I'm not a big fan of string cheese, but it's okay.  Which is your favorite brand?

And last....I wanted to share this video by our favorite principal, Mr. Brooks.  I think it's astute, as usual.

Hope you have a great weekend!!  Enjoy life!

just a little something to get you dancing...

It's Wednesday!

And it's a good thing... my brain has been so out of it this week!  I don't know what the fog is about...I'm getting sleep and stuff.  Maybe not a full 8 hours,... lol.  How about you??  Are you glad it's the middle of the week?  There is some fun stuff to commemorate or celebrate today.

Air Force Birthday -  Happy bday to the Air Force!!  My brother was in the Air Force, and I always thought it was so cool.  He wasn't a pilot, but hey, not everyone can fly...lol.  Seems like none of the military branches like each other, which is stupid - we're all on the same side!!  But ya know...  anyway, found this fun video someone made with all the lyrics to the Air Force Song.  enjoy!

Chiropractic Founders Day
- I have mixed feelings about Chiropractors.  When my hubby first started going to our neighbor, they used to do the neck cracking thing  UH UH - not for me.  So, I never really took advantage of them.  I have always liked the more homeopathic round of things, but hadn't quite gotten into them until that one retired and a new one took over and they didn't do the neck cracking thing anymore. (of course it didn't help that I read a book by Robin Cook that dealt with people dying from that neck cracking bit, lol - fiction people...fiction.)  Anyway - if you have joint or muscle issues related to back or hips, they are great.  We have one that we go to regularly in Layton.  My daughter had one she went to in Ogden  Everyone has to find their own pick that they are comfortable with.   Here's a school of Chiropractic for info...

Hug A Greeting Card Writer Day -  Personally, I think a good greeting card writer is a comedian.  But then, there are so many other cards that deal with sadness, loss, and other stuff, so I guess there's all kinds.  I can't help that I like the funny ones best...  I am tired of the off color ones, sigh.  But, if you know anyone that writes for greeting cards - give them a high five from me, and a hug from yourself.  It's a living, right??

National Ceiling Fan Day  - I love our ceiling fan.  We would have them in every room if the ceilings weren't too low.  Especially downstairs...  I always picture kids hanging on them though...since that's what my grandkids did to break the one in their room.  Probably didn't help that the bunk beds were tall enough they could grab onto it...  kids will figure out anything when given enough time and boredom.... sigh.  Anyway - enjoy the invention!!!

National Cheeseburger Day - and of course...last on the list today is the awesome Cheese burger!!!  I saw a post someone did on Facebook recently about a man that went to the Heart Attack grill in Vegas and ate the HUGE 8 burger cheese burger in little over 10 minutes.  UGH.  Not quite wanting cheese burger that much, and not one of theirs...   But I definitely love myself a good cheese burger.  We like Burger Stop. (especially their fries!)  Where's your favorite place to go??

And if you're searching for something fun to do this weekend...  They're doing another Night Lights in Tooele where they are releasing the paper lanterns.  Way fun!

anyway - have a great day!!

It's Friday!!

So - it's the end of another week.  And another great week it was!  Not quite as busy as last week, which makes it a better Friday, I think.  Not that this weekend is going to be any bit relaxing, lol.  Doing a granddaughter thing tonight, facepainting in the morning, bday party in the afternoon... sigh.  Anyway - have lots I want to share as far as celebrating ideas go, so better get started...

Today is Blame Someone Else Day -  this makes me think of that old comic strip, family circus and the little kids...
How many of your kids ever said this???  I tell ya...  this is their day.  :)

Friday the 13th - for those of you who are supersticious, this is your day to be afraid.  Personally, I'm excited, it's my granddaughter's bday.  I never think of it as any other way now... lol

International Chocolate Day - yes!!  I know this is another created day to sell more chocolate, but for those of us who love chocolate, it's another reason to enjoy!!  What is your favorite shape or form of chocolate??  that's a hard choice...dark brownies?  Chocolate chip cookies?  rich dark cake??  my favorite ice cream...so many choices, so little time...

Kids Take Over The Kitchen Day - This isn't that big of a day for me...my kids are all adults and the ones living at home have a dinner night, so they take over the kitchen a lot.  I just wish they had a larger selection of dishes..and ordering out for pizza doesn't count, right???

National Peanut Day
I know they mean the nut and not the comic strip, but it had to be done...lol

I like peanuts.  Were you wigged out when you discovered that they grow under ground??  I thought it was crazy.  Potatoes and peanuts have lots in common!!

Roald Dahl Day - The amazing author was born on this day in 1916.  He was 2 years older than my dad...wow.  Anyway - He wrote some great books, and if you haven't had a chance to read any, you've missed out.  Some of my favorites were made into movies, and while they aren't quite the same, they're pretty good.  James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...  awesome.  Here's one of my favorite scenes...

Scooby-Doo Day - and of course, I grew up watching Scooby Doo on Saturday mornings.  Who didn't love that crazy group?  I think the movies were kind of lame...though my kids, well, my younger sons like them.

It's also Snack a Pickle Day... but I'm not sure what that means.  Eat more pickles??  hmmm

and last, but not least, it's Hug Your Boss DayNow a days that's a little difficult, some bosses would claim the whole harrassment thing, and it's not quite appropriate, but you can do the whole virtual hug bit.  Here's to ya, boss!!  👍

In Memory... Never Forget

It's almost like this day creeps up on me now.  Some years I am waiting for it...knowing it's coming and planning.  It's helpful to remember it because my granddaughter's bday is the day before.  My sister's wedding anniversary is this date...and so is my in-laws.  I still forget to put the flag out till I get off work.  One of these years I'll remember before leaving.

What does this day mean to me??  It's the idea that something so terrible happened in my lifetime.  That I actually watched half of it happen on television...aghast that so many died.  It doesn't lessen the fact that Pearl Harbor happened, or that D Day was more horrific in terms of loss of people.  I believe those day's are important to remember as well, because EVERY life is precious.  If we don't remember these days and the horrors of war, then war becomes an easy thing.  Removed from our day to day life because of how well protected we are.  Despite the 'mass' shootings that happen almost monthly now, we are still relatively safer than anywhere else in the world.
Our military, our first responders, our wonderful public servants who make it their living to help and protect us deserve for us to remember them this day.

I hope you take the time to let them know how much they are appreciated and that we are thankful they are willing to do the tough jobs.  You are awesome!!!

Today is also Hot Cross Buns day...  You could make up a batch and take them to your local fire department or military personnel and let them know they are loved.  They always appreciate baked goods, lol.   They would also go real good with some hot chocolate, and it's a nice day for that!

It's the national day of service - lets get out there and so some good.  Remind everyone that there's a reason to live and care for each other.

And don't let your loved ones go without a hug and kiss - tell them you love them.  This day, 18 years ago, proved that you never know when it's going to be the last time you see them.

Happy Wednesday!

In my work email I said it was hump day, but for some reason, it doesn't feel like I should already be talking about the middle of the week like that... I've only been back at it for three weeks now, so what's there to complain about??  I feel like I've been doing a lot of whining lately, so I'm stopping that right now.  :)

I was looking into if there was anything worth shouting out in the celebration side, and the only thing they had was national Macadamia nut day.  Well... since most of us love those island nuts, enjoy!  One of my co-workers boyfriend made macadamia nut shortbread cookies dipped in chocolate... oh my, they were good!!  (Think he's a keeper, CF!)

I read an article recently that said back to work blues are real.  I thought well, duh!  I guess they were focusing on how it's when you come back from a vacation, or like Christmas time.  I focused on the fact that many of us have summers off and then come back.  They say the best thing is to schedule another vacation (lol), ease into things, and try some new habits.
Well...sounds like good advice to me!  All of you who are having a hard time adjusting to being back at work, plan a vacation to get out of the dumps and switch up some habits. (I know...that's easier said than done, but possible!!)

Perhaps some music and scenery might help...

Just imagine walking around with the ocean breeze blowing the dusty heat from your hair...
sigh.

Anyway - hope you have a great day!!

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
