Sad Day....Star Trek Fans and other Thoughts

Well...we all knew this day would come.  People don't live forever in these mortal bodies, and so we have to accept.  However, there are some people that we keep thinking will just go on and on.  Since they will live forever on film (well, sort of) we think they'll just keep going on.  Like Leonard Nimoy.
(this is taken from KSL's article)

This man defined the word logic.  He was cool at being a nerd when it wasn't even a word.  I grew up with him being Spock, even though he went on to do many other shows and plays and became so much more.  However, in the end, most of us will always associate him with Star Trek and Spock.
(from online)

I will always remember his expressions, his logic and his friendship for Kirk.  I think all of us will always consider him our friend.  He taught the true meaning of the word.
Thanks Leonard.  You'll be missed.  I wonder what you think of the spirit world after all the words you visited.  ;)

In line with that, one of my co-workers was telling me her 21 year old daughter lost her husband of 18 months last Sept.  Oh man!  That's a heart ache!  At the time of the funeral she was late on her womanly time and hoped that she was pregnant -- but she wasn't.

My co-worker was thinking this would help her learn all kinds of things to say to people who have suffered great loss.  But she said she hasn't learned anything new...all she can think of is to say "I'm so sorry."  She doesn't sleep well at night for worrying for her daughter and how to help her cope.  I guess we never stop worrying.

And...perhaps that's all you can say sometimes...let someone know that you feel for their loss...but you'll never really know how they feel.  We all feel things differently.  But we do have empathy.

Well...the world is a different place today.  I hope it was made better because you were in it.  ;)

It's Thursday!! thank heavens....

Greetings you silly thought lovers!  Yesterday was such a Wednesday - I could have used a reason to have a celebration, so I'm glad there's some today.  It's another multiple, so here we go.  ;)

National Chili Day!

I guess that's when it would be good to have a chili cook off.  We're not into the spicy stuff, so it's more just a good flavor.  ;)  I like to serve it with a great corn bread and hm....guess I know what we're having for dinner tonight.  It's my older sons night to make dinner - have to see if he's willing to cook some good old fashioned chili - not from a can.  ("what? you want me to make something from scratch???")  lol

For Pete's Sake day.  Interesting - this is a day for itself??  Trivia for the day...this is a 'minced oath'.  Which I guess means it's said in place of a cuss/swear word.  Personally, I thought it was just a phrase...but I guess that's when you would use the phrase...anyway.  It's a possibility that it's based on St Peter.  They say that if you have a Pete in your life to be nice to him today.  Well...have fun with that - don't know any Peters...well, I know a little 7 year old, lol.

National Bacon day.
Yeah!  for those of you bacon lovers out there, a real excuse to use it with everything today.  I think we can put it in our chili tonight!  ;)  There are those that think bacon doughnuts are yummy...and it seems like they're putting bacon in just about everything.
sigh.  What's your favorite way to eat bacon?

World Pistachio day!  My daughter will be way excited for that one.  My father-in-law loved pistachios, so we might have to eat some in his honor.  ;)  hm...pistachio pudding is always good too...

Well - enough celebrating talk, I guess it's time to get back to work.  Hope everyone has an awesome day celebrating life in your favorite way!  ;)

Happy Day!

Hey everyone - It's Tuesday!  It's not crazy wind anymore, and the sun is shining!  Got to be a reason to smile, right?

Well, it's also Cupcake day (if you live in Canada.) So, since we don't live in Canada, does that mean we can't celebrate??  NO!  So...just get your cupcake on and enjoy.  ;)  I'm going to see if I can figure out a no sugar healthy variety, lol.

It's also Single tasking day.  Who does that???  I'm not sure that anyone can do that anymore - so challenge for the day:  Can you do ONE thing without thinking about doing something else at the same time??
I don't know....

Well - have an awesome day!  You deserve it.  ;)

A Little Disney...

Okay - say what you will, Disneyland/world is all about money, and tourists, yada yada, and is having a little difficulty with measles...lol.
BUT
Disneyland and Disneyworld  is seriously the funnest place on earth.  Seriously.  Anyone who has been there can tell you how amazing it is.  I know there are a few exceptions, employees having a bad day, etc, but let me tell you - I've been there on New Years Eve and seen the CROWDS and still...it's fun.
Well...spotted a cute little article about something they are doing right now...touting the Disneyside of all of us.  They went to a mall in New York where they are seriously having winter right now (which some of us wish were US, lol) and had some fun.  You've got to check it out.  For some reason it made me tear up...and had to share.
Enjoy.  Wish I were going today.  ;)  Never been to Disney World, and that's apparently the place to go...
sigh.

Three for the Price of One! ;)

Instead of a hole in one, today is three in one, lol.
Today, in honor of it being Thursday, (or not) is Chocolate Mint Day!

Is everyone excited??  sort of...mint isn't necessarily my favorite flavor.  ;)  My hubby likes it though, so I'll have to give him this nice mint chocolate bar on my desk.  ;)

It's also Chinese New Year!!

Everyone celebrate and have Chinese for dinner!  Fried rice is the best...or sweet and sour, hm.  Don't know which to choose.  ;)  Which is your favorite?  It's apparently the year of the goat...or sheep, depending on how you interpret it.  ;)
I think these are pretty cute.  ;)

and last....um...
the Great American Spit Out!  that's for those of you who chew tobacco.  Hm.  Didn't even know that was a day for itself.  It's a quit chewing day, and I guess if you know someone who chews, then you can encourage them to quit.  Interesting.  Well...just another interesting tidbit to add to the trivia in your lives.  ;)

Hope you have a great Thursday!  We might get moisture this weekend, so it's all good!!

Is it a Planet or Not??

Hi everyone!  Happy Wednesday!  ;)
Did everyone make pancakes for dinner last night?  Yes...I neglected to post about Mardi Gras and international Pancake day...I was a little busy.  Not only was I running around from the time I got up, but I woke up with this really red eye...and I was sort of worried it was more than just a burst blood vessel.  Apparently I was scaring little children,....lol.  Too bad it's not halloween.  It doesn't hurt, but it's really tired today.  I'd take a photo, but it is gross, and don't want to do that to ya.

Anyway - so today, because I know it's on everyone's mind...is Pluto is a Planet day.  Good grief!!  Someone is really on about the sphere at the far edge of the solar system.  I like Pluto and all (I mean, about as much as you can like a planet you've never been to, lol) but I don't see what all the fuss is about.  It's a planet, it's not.  It doesn't change the fact that it's out there...rotating along with all the other planets.
I've heard arguments on both sides, and I have to admit - I really don't care. (this is me shrugging my shoulders)
Anyone want to present their view?  ;)

One of my co-workers had this to say:

                                         "It's a planet to me!"
(this is his picture, don't know where he got it, so sorry if it belongs to someone!)

I like it.  ;)

Well, have a good one.

Top Favorite Romantic Movies

Okay - The Pioneer Woman blog had a list of favorite 10 romantic movies in honor of Valentines Day, and I thought I needed to do that.  I am a movie watcher (when I'm not doing other stuff, lol) and my hubby likes romantic movies with me.  We were talking about it the other day and it reminded me of some more as well, so here we go.

#1 (there are not really in best to worst order, just as I thought of them.)
Notting Hill

We have owned and thrown away and owned this movie - it's one of those that we really like some of the scenes, and yet...what can I say.  She sleeps with him!!  sigh.  :(  So, it's not like one you'd really recommend to anyone, but it's cute- especially at the end when he apologizes and tells her he loves her and then marries her...sigh.  SOOOO romantic.  ;)

#2
Princess Bride
Ah...nothing says love like marrying the king and then killing yourself, lol.  There is just so much about this movie that is fun and quoteable.  We figure it's the iching of life - like most people look at the GodFather.  ;)

I don't know if I could define what my favorite part is...perhaps it's Miracle Max describing a MLT sandwich, or ...no, it's Inigo and Fessik rhyming on the boat.  sigh.  like I said...can't tell ya.

#3
The Lake House
I think I've mentioned before that I'm a Sandra Bullock fan.  I think she and Kianu Reeves act well together - they were awesome in Speed.  They're good in this one too.  I like how most of the most important times happen on the same date - Valentines day.  She saves him, and he saves her.  It's amazing.  I love the house too...although you'd think it had to be darn cold!!  ;)
It's another one that makes me torn though...they're living together and not married.  dang it .

#4
A Walk in the Clouds
Another Kianu Reeves movie.  ;)  He is SOOO awesome in this one.  It's so nice!  It's clean too, he's married....and he manages to keep his honor and everything.  The girl is a little mixed up, but that's life.  And it's got lots of history in it thats really fascinating.  If you haven't seen it yet...chick flick!!  ;)

The parents are part of the greatness as well...so neat to watch.

#5
Return to Me
Oh man, this one is sooo good too.  It's a tear jerker at first, but then it mellows and ends with such sweetness!!!  You've got to watch it if you haven't seen it yet.  My hubby and I both like this one as well.  I tell ya, I'm lucky I can get my hubby to watch these with me!  Of course, there's times when I'll just curl up on the couch when no one is at home and pop one of these babies in...  ;)

#6
Everafter
I used to be a real big Drew Barrymore fan.  I guess I still am, she seems to have gotten her life together and isn't in the tabloids too much, lol.  (Like I have anywhere to judge) But she has made some sweet movies.  I think this is the BEST fairytale ever.  I love Leonardo DaVincci...
I love how romantic it is...especially when she meets him in the forest and then saves him from the gypsies.  ;)  Remember you can take what you can carry!

#7
Never Been Kissed
This one tells such the tale of the looser highschool memories and the way we can over come all odds to become successful adults.  I could definitely relate to it, though I wasn't as bad off as the person portrayed in the movie...ugh!  But it's so sweet...the teacher is amazing and you have to love the end!!  ;)  Drew Barrymore...got to watch it.

#8
You've Got Mail
This one is another torn one.  They are both living with someone!!  Where are the morals people???  sigh.  But it is a terribly cute story, and it brings out the point that sometimes intense dislike is just love waiting in the wings.  It just depends on how far you want to overcome and how much they are worth looking into.  The main characters are basically both likable people, and want to have a good life.  The supporting actors are sooo good too.  sigh.  Love this one!!

#9
Mirror Has Two Faces
Okay - how many of you have heard of this one??  How many of you are Barbara Streisand fans??  I agree with something my foster father said when I was living with them in California.  "She is not a very pretty woman, especially with that nose!  But when she acts and sings...you fall in love with her."  She is awesome, and Jeff Bridges is also - just so him.  ;)  If you haven't seen this - it's great!

#10
Starman
mentioning Jeff Bridges made me remember this one from the 80's that was so awesome and romantic too.  Unfortunately its another one they sleep together in, but at least they don't show a whole lot.  ;(  just saying...warning ya.  It's a great romantic movie though, and a bit of a tear jerker at the end.  Just look at the title...you know he's not staying on earth.  Though...they did build a whole TV series out of it.  ;)

and and a couple of honorable mentions...
Two Weeks Notice
another one of my favorites and stars Sandra Bullock...and Hugh Grant.  What's not to like with these two??  They have great chemistry together and I hope they made another movie some day.  They both have great comedic timing!  And he's so likeable in films.  ;)

and last but definitely NOT least....Sense and Sensibility
Who hasn't seen this one???  It's a perfect adaptation of Jane Austins book, as far as I'm concerned.  Hugh Grant does and awesome job, and so does Anne Thompson.  She is just amazing in all the rolls I've seen her play.  And then of course, Alan Rickman - I think it's the only movie where he really is always the nice guy!  ;)  So romantic.  Got to see it.

did I miss one of yours?  Let me know.  ;)

It's Friday again!!

And a three day weekend, to boot.  Wow!  Let's all stand and wave our hands in the air like we just don't care!  lol.  (well...we don't, right?)

Anyway, there's lots today, so I'll try not to be too wordy.  ;)

It's Blame Someone Else Day - so if you have a sibling, you've got that handled.  ;)  If you have children, that's totally handled - and if you're married, hey - what can I say?  There's no reason you should have to take the blame for anything today.  ;)

We have Get A Different Name Day...hm.  Did you hear about the guy in Sweden (I think it was Sweden) who wants to change his name to Super Hero?  Seriously. He claims it's your right as an adult to change your name to whatever you want.  The courts seem to think it's not a very Christian name.  Go figure.  Some of the names I've seen....right...

Madly In Love With ME Day, lol.  I guess that's for the Narcissist in all of us - and the day before Valentines.  ;)  I hope we all at least LIKE ourselves.  If not, you need to work on it, buddy.  You're all awesome!!

And last - (could be sort of least, lol)  World Radio Day.  I guess it's a good thing, radio.  I kind of like listening to it, have listened to it since I was like 8 or 9.  ("Sitting on the dock of the bay, listening to the waves roll in...")  World Radio day kind of reminds me of Transformers though - "only way to communicate with the world is morse code"  Radio's better than morse code though, so perhaps that doesn't even relate.  Hm..  stretching it here, so I'll stop.  ;)

I hope all of you have great plans for the weekend, (Valentines Day or not) and relax!  Have Fun!!

ET come visit and other items... ;)

Today (in case you were wondering) is Extraterrestrial Visitor Day.  That means, for those of you who are nerdy that way, it's the day to have visitors from outerspace.  It's actually a day...go figure.  I'm sure it was organized by someone in the galaxy...one of those things where it's on someones wall on a calendar in some other galaxy and the mom is saying in the background "It was started over 50 years ago in some basement room on Earth..."  ;)
Whatever.  If you like Mork and Mindy - "Nanoo, Nanoo."

On the other side of this, my hubby was his usual spoiling me self and got me an early Valentines Day present.  sigh.  He is SOOO amazing...have I mentioned that before??  It's edible...and I had told my son the other day I didn't want some huge ice cream cake from Coldstone creamery because I'm trying to eat healthy, and I really don't like lots of sugary stuff anymore.

oops.

That was totally the wrong thing to say - hubby promptly informed me that I wouldn't like his present, that he'd tried to cancel it but it was already on the way.  I tried to convince him that I would love it simply because it was him, but it took some convincing.  :(

Anyway - he tried to have them delivered to my work, and they got there a half hour after I left...lol..  So I frantically texted him and asked if he could go pick them up on his way home because I wasn't going to be able to get there.  He graciously consented, and I waited all of 2 minutes before opening the large box to find out what he'd gotten me from Shari's Berries!

They didn't pay me to say anything, so don't think this is a paid ad, lol.  But I had to show off!  Aren't they gorgeous??
You can see I restrained myself...lol
but the cutest thing were these!
Are they not the cutest thing you've ever seen???  In case you haven't noticed, I'm a BIG fan of ladybugs
I'm going to share these with my granddaughters, lol.  That's as sharing as I get...
Have a great week!

Monday, February 09, 2015

It's Monday and it's ....

Okay...this week has a lot of celebrations, so I'll try and make them brief so I'm not taking up too much of anyone's day.  ;)  Some weeks we have nothing terribly exciting, and then we have weeks where someone was inventive every day. Go figure!

I  hope everyone had a great weekend!  Yesterday was gorgeous, wasn't it?  I have green stuff shooting up, and it makes me worried for March! sigh....

Anyway - today is Clean Out Your Computer day...  I'm not sure what that means, perhaps get all the programs off you don't really need, or delete files that you don't use anymore...I'm sure whoever takes care of your computer will appreciate that.  ;)

It's also Read in Your Bathtub Day - which my son-in-law would appreciate.  He's dropped many a book in the bathtub, lol. I don't like baths because the water gets cold too soon - so if it were a hot tub, that's another thing. ;) (and then I'd fall asleep...)

And strange one - Toothache day...what?  That's like promoted by the dentist industry, you think?  The only thing the site I get most of my information from said was they had heard it was founded the same day as the Hershey Company was founded...  ;)  Another person said it was because of some patron saint from around 200 AD that was in support of dentists.  Interesting little tidbit of the day...so- everyone had their cleaning recently?

Well... onward and upward, as they say.  New week and hopefully rain today!  (pop quiz...Rainy Days and Mondays - who sings that song?)

Please Tell me It's Friday???

It is!!!  ;)
You're patience all week has paid off, it's Friday.  Isn't it a sad commentary on our society today that we hate weekdays and love Fridays??  Interesting... that said, let's move on to reasons to celebrate the day!
Today is Canadian Maple syrup day!!  YEAH!  (although it tastes wayyyy different than the homemade stuff I grew up on, lol)  If we weren't already making stuffed chicken breasts for dinner, we'd have pancakes with syrup!  ;)
It's also Lame Duck day.  Why would they have a day for lame ducks???  I thought that sounded kind of like the blond joke in the beauty pageant..."I think handicapped people should be able to park where ever they want..."  ;)  (seriously though, I wish there were more of them in our political system today, we'd have something to look forward to...nuff of the politics - sorry)

And, just because most of us still like it from time to time, it's Bubble Gum Day!!  That gives you an excuse to go buy one from a gum ball machine and chew till your jaw aches.  (It doesn't count as candy, does it???)  I want to see bubbles, people!!  Ones as big as your face!  ;)
And last but not least--

Cluster
(The Girlscout cookies are from their site ;)  )

It's Girl Scout Cookie Day!!  Can I hear an Amen???  At least from those of us who like them...or should I say are married to people who like them, lol.  ;)  I'm not that big of a fan of them, though I won't pass up a Samoa once in a while...my hubby LOVES the mints and the peanut butter ones.  The kids will snarf them too if given the chance.  ;)
So, it's the end of a long week, we have loads of reason to celebrate and the weather is gorgeous.  Wow...what more could we ask for??
 Have a great weekend!

Wednesday, February 04, 2015

It's Wednesday and it's Raining!

Or it was, lol.  Hi everyone!  I hope you're enjoying the rain we're getting, it's been so dry this winter...I'm hoping the mountains are getting tons!  ;)

Today is actually Liberace day!  I had no idea that he got to have his own day. (I mean, he wasn't president...) I would think that everyone is old enough to know who he is...if not, he was an amazing pianist that was VERY flamboyant.  He wore lost of rings and flashy-rhinestoney clothing.  He and Elton John in his early years had a LOT in common.  ;)

It is also Quacker day...so I guess that means if you like to quack, or you have ducks, or you like ducks, this day is for you!  lol.  Personally, I like them at the park.  I grew up with ducks in my back yard in California.  We did not have a big yard...so they would come up on the back porch and poop...and poop...and poop!  It's amazing how much 7 ducks can relieve themselves in a 24 hour period.  I do not think they ate their weight in bugs, so I know it wasn't worth it when I had to go hose off the porch.  :}  UGH.
We have a stuffed duck that my father-in-law owned that quacks songs.  ;) We'll have to play with the granddaughters with it today.  ;)

Anyway - Have a great Wednesday!  The week is half over, it's raining and we're happy!  How much better can it get?  (I know...chocolate, lol)

Monday, February 02, 2015

It's February!

Well, it's February, can you believe how fast January went?  wow.
We have a whole new month of silliness to celebrate, and today kicks it off with...drum roll:
Ground Hog day!!
He definitely didn't see his shadow here, but he did see it back in Pennsylvania!  Good thing it doesn't really depend on that little rodent to get it, right?  We really could use the moisture  ;)  We ALWAYS watch the movie GroundHog Day with Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell, it never gets old.  (though sometimes we skip through all the suicide days)...we always talk about time and using it wisely.

It's also World Play Your Ukulele Day.  Everyone has one of those sitting in the closet just waiting to be pulled out....not.  ;)  But if you do, go ahead and play it!  I guess they are a little more popular in Hawaii, lol.

It's also (and this is my favorite!) Crepe day
I had no idea!  I'm excited.  My kids would be much more excited about groundhog day if we had crepes too, lol.  I'll have to see if they want to change the menu from sausages and potatoes to crepes...  (you can make them healthy- I use egg whites and skim milk...and if you fill them with fruit, use yogurt or cottage cheese on top - it isn't against any healthy eating guidelines!  ;)  Of course...what's a crepe without chocolate, so ya know...;)  )

Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable weekend and didn't over eat at their superbowl or anti-bowl parties, lol.  (we don't watch the game, we protest by playing games as a family.  Last night it was electronic trivial pursuit and it was guys against girls...we won!!)

Anyway - whatever you choose to do today, make it fun and smile!  Life is good.  ;)

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
