9/12 The Rally

Okay, this wasn't the best photo, but it was taken with my hubbies phone. We were right behind the guy's head, and it was a lot bigger behind us...grin.

It was really fun to see people come out. I kind of felt sorry for the young couple that had just gotten married across the street -- they had to compete with the parking and the loud speakers... But it was amazing. We had a much larger turn out than anyone had expected. If only we could have gone to DC...now THAT was a march... If we'd had the funds, we would have joined them in the march, but we couldn't, so we stuck with Salt Lake. It was interesting, we enjoyed the speaches and mingling with those who had pretty much the same take on our situation right now as we do.

Also, a friend posted this thought on her blog, and I felt it was very appropriate for the thought:
"I am part of the fellowship of the unashamed. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made; I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I won't look back, let up, slow down, or be still. My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, and my future is secure. I'm finished and done with low living, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tinted visions, worldly talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals. I no longer need preeminence, positions, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don't have to be right, first, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded. I now live by faith, lean on His presence, walk with patience, am lifted up in prayer, and labor with power. My face is set, my goal is heaven. My road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions few, my guide is reliable, my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, divided or delayed, will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table with the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I won't give up, shut up, or let up until I have stayed up, stored up, and paid up for the case of Christ. I must go till He comes, give till I drop, preach till all know, and work till He stops me and when He returns for His own, He will have no problem recognizing me”. - Author Unknown, quoted by Elder Henry B. Eyring

So, not only have we started on the road to try and reclaim our country -- I have resolved that I am one of the unashamed. I will always stand for Jesus Christ and for right and freedom.

I hope you will join me.

I Haven't Forgotten...

Today is a day that I can hear that gravelly voice in my head saying "This shall go down as a day of infamy..."

Today is very much a Pearl Harbor for me. This is the day my world was rocked with such a shock, that I still cry when I see pictures of it.

I don't know how anyone can forget that day. What is worse, how can we not support the troops that are over there, keeping it from here?

A fellow blogger had this YouTube connection, and after viewing it, I knew that it was just the thing for today. I hope it reminds you what is important. I hope it helps you never to forget.

I guess this blog will have several things, perhaps six, huh? But here is one of my favorite Alan Jackson Songs...

One of the neatest things I've read, is that several people are making this a day of service to others. Of reaching out. When we owned a pizza store, we used to give free pizza to the police, EMT, paramedic and firemen that would come to the store. If they had family that could prove military or other involvement, we sold them pizza's at half price. We put signs on the store thanking them and letting people sign them. I'll never forget the expressions of thanks and surprise. It was wonderful when we had the little store by the base. That was the most heart warming.

I've been trying to think all day what we could do as a family now that we don't have an obvious means of giving, and I haven't come up with anything yet. I do wish we had a giant flag, I would hang it from our roof.

I couldn't put Lee Greenwood's song here, but I could put the website where you can go watch his wonderful video. "I'm Proud to be an American."

With all the troubles of our country, I still love it best. It's still the greatest country in the world. Still has some of the greatest hearts and souls. Still needs me, even though it seems my small amount doesn't mean much.

Take a moment today and remember.

Never Forget!

This is the neatest thing I've seen in a while. This photo is a rendering of what the USS New York will look like.

Here is an excerp from Wikipedia-
USS New York (LPD-21), a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, is the sixth ship of the United States Navy to be named for the state of New York. The ship is designed to deliver a fully-equipped battalion of 699 Marines.

Shortly after 11 September 2001, Governor of New York George E. Pataki wrote a letter to Secretary of the Navy Gordon England requesting that the Navy bestow the name USS New York on a surface warship involved in the War on Terror in honor of September 11's victims. In his letter, the Governor said he understood state names are currently reserved for submarines, but asked for special consideration so the name could be given to a surface ship. The request was approved 28 August 2002.

Oddly enough, a previous holder of the name, USS New York (BB-34), had its keel laid on September 11, 1911, exactly 90 years to the day before the WTC was attacked.

Twenty-four tons of the steel used in its construction came from the rubble of the World Trade Center, with seven tons melted down and cast to form the ship's "stem bar" — part of the ship's bow.[1] The construction workers reportedly treated it with "reverence usually accorded to religious relics", touching it as they walked by.

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
