So...Day 4...and all is well?

It's been a strange week.  I always thought working from home would be awesome.  It's been so strange!!!  My poor grandkids don't understand why grandma is kicking them out of the play area (which is where my desk is) and why their mom is going crazy trying to figure out how to spend the day with them (she's on a two week self isolation as per her work...)  And next week my hubby will be home all day working while we're on spring break.  That should be even more fun....

Today we have had snow and now the sun is shining.  Welcome to spring in Utah, right?  My daughter was so not happy at the snow...  I reminded her that we've had snow in June before.  It's not like things are in a set pattern, lol.  Hope everyone had a lovely morning...just think - most of us didn't have to drive in it!!  That's a big positive right there!

So - thought we'd celebrate a couple fun things...

Live Long And Prosper Day - in celebration of Leonard Nemoy's bday, we have this day to celebrate all things Spock.  I think it would be a good day to have a Star Trek marathon!!  I'm going to suggest it to my hubby...he's off work tomorrow in his one and only day of spring break, so he can stay up all night vegging on the couch, lol.  But hey... we miss this man.  He was a great actor and wonderful director.  What's your favorite film??
Here's some good clips from the original TV series...

Spinach Day - And let's all be Popye today and eat spinach!  I happen to love the green stuff when it's fresh.  I got sick when I was little when I ate it out of a can without cooking it long enough...ugh.  I use it frozen in spinach artichoke dip, so ya know.  It's good stuff.  What's your favorite way to eat it?
 This recipe looks YUMMY...

Well, hope you all have a wonderful day!!

Day one of the 'soft' closure....need some humor??

So... today is the first 'official' off day for my household.  My hubby is working from home (Well, trying to... he has grandkids and noise going on...  I think he needs his own office) and today I had the whole day off - tomorrow I'm back to partial day at schools and then work at home.  That should be interesting... our grandkids are off the next 2 weeks, and so is their mom, so I don't think it's going to be any quiet time...

Soo...  need some humor for the day??  Our principal has the goods.  Here are two videos...one from him, and one is apparently a fellow educator (erducatr?) with his own song for the masses.  Some people have such a great sense of humor!!  I'm hoping that I get something productive done during this time, but you know we're going to come to the end and I'll have done nothing but watch grandkids, clean the kitchen and do laundry...  that was all I did when the kids were little, lol.  We'll see...

and the song:

And just in case you're trying to think of something to eat today, it is National Tamale Day and it's National Chip and Dip day, which is a day meant for sitting in front of the couch.  We celebrated with tortilla chips and guac....

It just amazes me how people react to times of crisis and difficulty.  I think that those who do not have a foundation of faith struggle the most.  The Savior is there for all...  and will bring comfort and peace in these crazy times.

Hope you have a wonderful day!  Practice good hygiene and social distancing...  (does watching movies in the familyroom with everyone on the couch count? lol)

I'm Okay...

But a little rattled.  Nothing like an earthquake to unsettle things...  as if things weren't unsettled enough, right??  Hopefully we're all good, and things can settle down to...  well, wishful thinking - 'normal'.    Nothing is normal right now, but hopefully we're getting the hang of it and settling in for a little self reflection.  I was feeling bad because our trip to Japan would have started this Friday, and then one of my friends just had her trip cancelled because the earthquake shut down the airport.  Dang.  It's just the pits all over....  although, we have since discovered that it was a temporary shutdown, and she might be able to go after all!!  I'm hoping someone is able to fly...

But there are lots of bright spots.  It's time to look for the good in people...to try and be the good - don't you think?  To help those around us feel more a part of humanity when we're being told to social distance ourselves.  thankfully we can still call, text or email friends and neighbors -- make sure they're okay.  We have skype, facetime, all those things that help us see people and interact with them.  I've been Marco Poloing my kids, letting them know we're okay.  It's a crazy time.  This is the time to uplift and comfort each other...
So - in an effort to do that, I'm continuing with the silly facts of the day...  Maybe it will bring a smile.  :)

Forgive Mom and Dad Day -  This is always good.  Seems like there's always something you were mad at your parents about when you were a teenager, right?  I know a couple of our kids were not happy with our rules, or what we insisted they did while living under our roof.  Fortunately, some of them have forgiven us, and understand the WHY of what we were doing.  I think some of them are still working on it...  So, anyway - anything you want to forgive your parents for?  I guess my biggest thing (if I haven't already done it, I'm not sure...lol) is to forgive my parents for not being here.  Not being there when I was growing up.  But it wasn't like they had a choice...  that's just the way life is.  We adult up and move on, right?

Goddess of Fertility Day- This always makes me think of the movie Yours Mine and Ours... they are on their first date, and realize that they have 18 children between them.  He wants to buy her something to remind her of the evening, and they admire a little statue in a store front in Chinatown.  The owner waves them in, and tells them they have good taste.  Then informs them the status is the goddess of fertility...  they leave quickly.

National Sloppy Joe Day -  yeah for sloppy joes!!  My hubby introduced me to the best recipe!  we now call it our Canadian/Portland missionary sloppy joes, lol.  We make it with chicken gumbo soup instead of the manwitch stuff.  If you're interested in the recipe, look it up on Sparkpeople.  :)  We add peppers, mushrooms, onion...yum!!

National Oatmeal Cookie Day -  which is always a good excuse to bake cookies!!  I figured it was a good day to bake cookies - nothing calms the nerves like chocolate chips and oatmeal, right?  I know most people think oatmeal has raisins....and they're okay - but I think chocolate makes everything better.

So...  need to end with something to get you moving, or at least make you laugh...
our favorite principal...

and some music...

Have a great day!

don't panic!

So - it occurred to me yesterday that the main phrase from Hitchickers Guide to the Galaxy is apropos for today...

(uh, make that a disinfecting towel, lol)
So - one of the schools I was at this morning had a quick staff meeting, to talk about what the district was having them do for handling the coronavirus.   Then I later found our favorite principal with his take on staff meetings... lol

People are getting crazy, and it's time to tone it down.  What is the biggest thing to fear right now??  That you'll run out of toilet paper?  Seriously?  There is a big wide world out there full of much more interesting things, and bigger things to worry about.  If you don't have any TP in your house, then yes, it is a cause for concern, but seriously - if you have a couple packs, you'll be good.  They are still making TP, and there are still warehouses full of it.  Trust me - I have a brother who works for a paper production company, and he says they are running at full capacity, and still have a warehouse full.

And it's not likely water is going to be turned off or contaminated, so there's no reason to worry about water.  Let's remember that we are intelligent beings, and that the media has hyped this up a bit.  Yes, we live in a world where we can find out what's happening in Italy in moments, or China in seconds.  That isn't necessarily a good thing, but it's the way life is now.  However- it might also be the time to turn off the news channel and watch a fun movie or dig out some books and remember that life is good - we can do what we choose and not have our lives dictated by the world around us.

This should be our mantra for the day.  Don't dwell on the fact that it's Friday the 13th...that doesn't really mean anything - it's just a day of the week with a number from a calendar that someone made up centuries ago.  Life goes on.  The second coming hasn't happened yet, you haven't been 'left behind' like a kid at the gas station.  :)  Or like the boyfriend in the Pink Bible version of Pride and Prejudice where they stop for gas, he gets out for food and they leave him... lol.
Anyway - I'm not saying that you shouldn't prepare, but if you have enough food for a couple of weeks you're good!!
Don't be huggie and feely with everyone you meet...  nod heads or touch toes if you feel like it...  we all don't want to catch anything.  I wonder... will wearing gloves come back into fashion???   I think they could... they could even make disposable ones that you threw away when you came home.  They could even go crazy with them and have them made with the hand sanitizer in them so that your hands would be continually refreshed with the alcoholic scent every five minutes...
But seriously folks, I don't think it needs to come to that.
I'm just wanting to help calm everyone down.  It's been discussed that the reason they are coming out with this so much is they don't want to overwhelm the medical facilities all at once.  This is what has happened in Italy, where they have a LARGE older population.  My hubby said he heard they were having to turn away stroke patients because there were no beds...
So, let's not be like what they say in Men in Black...  let's be the smart inidividual.

To be honest, we thought we'd run to Sams Club yesterday and grab some salt for our water softener, and perhaps some veggies...  UHUH.  We got the salt... but there was no chicken...no TP in sight!!  no cleaning materials... no frozen veggies except for zucchini spirals!!  I thought that was hilarious.  I mean, really...  and there was tons of shrimp!  I almost wanted to buy shrimp, just because it was there.  :)   No butter...I stayed away from the swarm around the milk and eggs...
but the lines were long... not quite as long as at Christmas time, but they were close.  So, we went to Winco, thinking we needed to get some flour in the bulk section.  Well... that was the only place you could find it.  The big bags were gone (dang!) as was the rice!  There wasn't any rice but the wild rice, and fortunately there was flour in the bins, so I got some as well as some whole grain noodles.  But the lines at Winco???  UGLY!  We were in line for probably 20 minutes or more, and my hubby was chatting it up with the men in front and behind us.  The one behind hadn't come with any other intention than to grab something for dinner.  He'd heard there was TP in Brigham City...  I said, hey, they are a little more laid back there, and probably aren't panicked yet, lol.  The one in front said he hadn't thought of grabbing stuff till they got there and saw how crazy it was.  I asked the cashier if it had been like this all day and she said it had.  Makes me wonder about people!!
But anyway - let's liven things up a little.
It's Donald Duck Day!!  Everyone needs to talk like Donald for a bit - that will make you forget about anything else.  Makes me miss my father-in-law...he did a great imitation.

Today is National Ginger Ale day!  I'm not a huge fan...I used to love Ginger beer - if you've never heard of it, kind of like a stronger version of ginger ale.  But I can't handle the carbonation any more.  We always get some for the World Series games...

It's also World Sleep Day.  I think we all need this one...  can we just go back to bed today??  Really??

I have been craving homemade cinnamon rolls all week.  Ever get into modes like that??  I almost made them Wednesday, but didn't want to do the whole heat the milk, mix with yeast, let everything rise for 10 hours... lol.   Not happening.  So yesterday, I decided to try an experiment with a recipe I found for 30 min dinner rolls.  I added a little more honey than the recipe called for, and they turned out AWESOME!
I made a light glaze instead of the thick cream cheese stuff my sister always makes because 1- didn't have any soft and ready to go and 2- that way the kids wouldn't compare them to hers, lol.  (she uses white flour, has made them for decades and are fluffy air filled things that everyone just raves over - I'm not jealous... really.  :)  )  but anyway, they hit the spot.
So if you're craving a bit of comfort food, don't try and find something to take it's place, just go with it.  We all need some comfort now and then...

Have a great Friday and a great weekend!!  Good song to end with...

Happy Friday!

It's that day again-Friday!  you made it through another week. And the weather is gorgeous!  Almost makes you think spring is around the corner... I have lots of green shoots in my flower beds.  Do you?

The school I'm at this morning had a staff meeting and played footloose to get everyone rounded up.  It was pretty fun...made me want to dance.  And now they're prepping for an assembly, and it's pretty wild - think I'll be leaving soon.  :)

But, good day to party.  To move.  To shake off the winter blues.  Here's a good song to do that...

if you still need to wake up, here's one of our favorite wake up calls...

Today, the only thing I want to mention, is that it's National Oreo day!!  If you can't enough of those chocolate cookies with white filling, today is the day to go crazy!!  I used to like them...dunk them in milk...  I'll still eat one now and then, as long as I don't think about the middle being nothing natural, lol.  If I weren't working on my book for the rest of the hours in this day, I'd make some homemade ones with real frosting in the middle.  Oh well...

Anyway - hope you have an awesome day and great weekend.  Life is great!

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
