Best two weeks...

War Room

Hi everyone - I haven't been as active posting during this time because I've been home with family and when my hubby and I are able to spend time together, I don't get a lot of extra curricular writing done, lol.

We've been having a wonderful holiday season at our house, and I hope you have too.
Next week it's back to work and you'll be seeing more of me then.

What I did want to say was we bought a new movie for Christmas (we usually do one or two, lol) and it was War Room.
If you have seen Courageous or Facing the Giants, you'll love this one.  If you haven't seen any of the previous ones, but you like CLEAN movies, you've got to watch it!  It is so good!  We were so glad we got it.

No one is paying me to say it.  If you've read my blog, you know I let you know if I love a movie or hate it, so there you go.  We also saw Star Wars VII over this break and I like some of the characters, but think the story is lame, the ending is really lame and what's the deal with Mark Hamill's character??  UGH.  Oh well...then we went home and watched the originals.  Still can't be beat.

Have a great New Years!!!

One Week to go...

before Christmas!!  Can you believe it?  The past four months have gone so fast.  It's crazy.  So...just help you have a fun Christmas attitude, today is...(wait for it...lol)

National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day!!!
and just to be even sillier, there's a family that does a dance (they've decided to record it...go figure) and they wear their ugly sweaters to dance.  Thought you'd get a kick out of it.   (sorry it's a Justin Beiber song...)

So, enjoy the day, week and the season!

Only 8 days left...

Hi everyone - It's Thursday and we're all so excited, right?

So, there wasn't a lot of fun stuff, so I'll sift through and see if there's anything worth writing about, lol.

Free Shipping Day -
for all of you who are still doing shipping for Christmas, this is a big day to do it. Would be a good day for all those last minute gifts  (which is most of mine, lol)  Be sure it's a retailer that participates, lol.

National Re-gifting Day - I think this is kind of strange...you haven't got the gifts yet, how can you regift them?  But of course, perhaps they're meaning the gifts you got last year and want to give away this year...isn't that what White elephant presents are all about?  lol

Wright Brothers Day - I thought this would be good, I didn't know they had a day dedicated to them.  Think of where we would be today if they hadn't been determined and creative with their vision.  Amazing.

Well, everyone have a terrific day!!  Only 8 days till Christmas!!

Chocolate covered...

Good morning everyone!  I hope your commute was better than Monday, lol.  Yesterday was nice. This is the kind of snow I could have all month, and hope it doesn't drive you all crazy.
Today there is just one thing to say...
National Chocolate-covered Anything Day!!  I like that one...just as long as it's covered in chocolate, it's all good.
Personally I like dark chocolate...and no coconut, thanks.   My daughter makes this Gnosh stuff and she did a tray of mini turtles covered with dark chocolate gnosh.  It was awesome.
What's your favorite thing?

SNOW!!! Finally. lol

Well...most of you are probably not happy, but I'm excited.  I LOVE looking at the powder and watching it sparkle in the sunlight...I also love watching it float down.  It's like those Kinkade painting applets where the snow fell over a country scene...  I would insert one, but they all take java and don't run well on the average computer...ugh.
Anyway - and we really need it for water, so I'm hoping we keep getting it.  We probably won't, (that's the pessimistic side of me talking...) but we can hope.

So...Today is Cat Herders Day!  I think it's great that they have a day for that.  Have you ever seen the video of that?  If you haven't, you're in for a good laugh.  Anyone that has had, knows, or sees cats, will totally get a laugh out of this.

Hope you have a great day and enjoy the snow!!
Only 9 days left....

Gingerbread!

So, hopefully all of you are having a wonderful weekend.  :)  There wasn't anything interesting about Friday except we had a party we went to...one of our favorites that we get to help decorate the tables for.  I roped my daughter into helping with the centerpieces.  What else are daughters for, right?  lol
So, today are some fun things to do with little kids, grandkids, or anyone who likes to enjoy themselves.  :)

Gingerbread Decorating Day and, conveniently enough - Gingerbread House Day.
If you are into that and haven't made one yet, the kits are pretty easy.  My daughter did four little houses the night we made candy (it was an OLD kit...the candy was hard!) and my son and his wife did one larger house that turned out cute.  I'm not sure anyone does them from scratch anymore...though I think it would be fun.

National Cocoa Day - which I think goes well with gingerbread house day, don't you?

In case you want something really silly, it's National Lost Day tomorrowI'm not sure what that's about, but you can look it up.  I'm wondering if they are talking about the show...

and last -- Poinsettia DayMy hubby gets one every year for my mother-in-law, and she manages to make them survive for several months.  I think she even had one still alive by mother's day, but don't ask me for proof, lol. Did you know the majority of Poinsettias are grown in Spain? At least that was what I was told by my sister-in-law who brought me back a lovely porcelain poinsettia from there...but in the Brownielocks site, the link says that they are prominent in Mexico and were named for the ambassador there...so go figure.  You can research it further if you want, lol.

I get to go see Babes in Toyland at the Centerville theater tonight, so that's a fun date night with hubby.  :)

Tomorrow is a concert at the Kaysville Crestwood Stake center called An Evening of Music, and it's awesome if you have a free Sunday evening.  Come listen!!

I survived!!

Well...it's Wednesday, and it's been a great day.  Yesterday was a little different... my son had mixed up a remedy for a sore throat and left it on the counter.  I thought it was water and took a swallow to take my pill, and about died!!!  ARGH.

Anyone out there use hydrogen peroxide to help sore throats?  I don't.  Have. Never. And. Will. Never.  ugh.  I'm just glad that I only had one swallow!  I couldn't believe how bad it tasted...I asked my hubby to smell it, and he couldn't smell anything, so we woke all the kids up for prayer and discovered that my son had mixed up some hydrogen peroxide and water to gargle with.

ARGH!

It tasted awful and burned going down, and then my stomach...I REALLY wished I could throw up, but I'm not the throwing up type, so, I just suffer.  I went back to bed and when I woke up later, it felt better, but my stomach was still sick.  :(

It wasn't until about 6pm that I ate some pita chips and it settled down.  I'd drank clay water (don't judge me) and wished I'd thought of taking my sons charcoal tablets.  SIGH.

Anyway - so I feel so much better today!!  My co-workers were all amazed I'm still alive, lol.  My hubby had done a quick look up on the internet and found out that a very small dose of the hydrogen peroxide wasn't life threatening, and I didn't need to go to the emergency room.  It was not fun because of the bubbles that were created in my stomach.  bizarre.

So...I survived, and now life is much better.  See, I got to play with two of my little granddaughters tonight for two hours with my husband, and we had sooo much fun.  :)  We don't get to see them as often as we'd like anymore.  We're already planning a grandparent sleepover the week of Christmas.  :)  AWESOME!!

Now, there was one item that was kind of fun today - Weary Willie the Clown day.  If you've never heard of him, you're not alone.  I think my father-in-law loved him...I remember seeing photos of him around.  He is pretty sad...

And last, I have some thoughts I wanted to share as well about Christmas.

We were watching Santa Claus 2 last night, and there is a point where they were talking about Tim Allen not being able to be Santa Claus anymore...and how Christmas would end.

I can't watch these so blithely anymore...it comes across that they are so not real.  It's all fiction.  You see, Santa Claus is a fun fantasy that society has propagated, but it's not real.  The only real thing about Christmas is the fact that Christ was born.  He wasn't even born on Christmas day as we know it, but that's not as important as who He is.  And you can take away the trees, the presents and all the decorations, but it will still be Christmas.  There will always be a Christmas, even if it's only in our hearts.

In fact, the best way to celebrate Christmas is in our hearts.  It's all about love and family and friends and the gospel of Jesus Christ.  He was born to save us, to give us hope and bring us home.  What better friend could you possibly have?

In case you haven't seen the new Christmas website that the LDS church has put out, here's a quick video that shows how much we need a Savior.

Enjoy.  :)

Happy Monday!

We had a busy weekend...sigh.  That's how December invariably ends up, ya know?  Is it like that for you??  Did you catch the Devotional last night?  We didn't...we were in the middle of the traffic of it though...and hope to watch it tonight.  :)

Just a couple of things today

National Pearl Harbor Day of Remembrance - This is a day we always watch Tora Tora Tora, or Pearl Harbor.  Although, I think watching Battleship works too because of the last half hour of it where they use the old battleship and the crew from WWII.  It's awesome... here's a little clip you can watch during lunch... (and just so ya know, there is language - sorry.  We have a language blocker on our TV, so we don't hear it when we're watching it, I keep forgetting that there is lots of cussing...)
https://youtu.be/e5maBLlFo7s

But anyway, we'll be making candy tonight, so I don't know that we'll get the movie in too.  sigh.

International Civil Aviation Day -
I would think this is similar to the Civil Air Patrol day, but perhaps not.  Anyone out there fly?

And last...for those of you who go to the fair or any carnival JUST for the cotton candy...today is National Cotton Candy Day - so now that you can buy it in bags, go find yourself some at the store and enjoy.   Personally, I have a hard time eating sugar and air with no real flavor, lol.
Have a great day!!

It's Friday! and only three left

Till Christmas, can you believe it??  UGH.  Are we all ready?  Can I get a nay?  I'm not!!!  lol
I hope you've had a great week and are looking forward to fun this weekend.

Well, we only have a couple of items of fun today.

Faux Fur Friday - I guess this is to encourage those who like fur to not harm the little animals and use fake fur.  Personally, I like fur, but I wouldn't own a large fur coat.  I have a coat with a nice fake fur hood and it suits me just fine.

National Cookie Day - good day!!  I think this is Cookie Monsters favorite day of the year, but ya know.  Is that politically correct anymore?  I understand there isn't a cookie monster, now it's a broccoli monster or something like that.  What has the world come to??  So, everyone make cookies today, it's your civic duty!  lol  My favorite is dark chocolate chip of course...  what's yours?

National Dice Day -
a game anyone?  I think everyone has played with dice sometime in their life, especially if they've played a board game or Yatsee.  From what I've been able to find, they've been around for centuries.  They even found an ancient Bacamon set from like 5000 years ago with dice.  I think I'm glad they don't make it from bones anymore...that just seems a little morbid, though I guess it wasn't human bones.   I think this would be a conversation for Halloween, don't you?  Anyway - make cookies and play games.  You'll be accomplishing 2 things on the wellness chart!

National Salesperson Day -
I remember talking about this last year.  Those poor long suffering salesclerks that have to help you find the perfect gift, put up with whining complaining customers and children, and work extended hours while everyone shops for the holidays.  However...the practical side of me must point out that it is their job...so ya know.  We can still be nice to them and call them by name, right? I found a great Studio C skit  (or rather, my hubby did. :)  that highlights an annoying clerk...but shows how they do so much at that check out, lol

anyway...Have a good one!

Wednesday, December 02, 2015

It's Wednesday!! Hump day number 1...

And wow...I've had something every day this week.  Hope it's not driving you all crazy...

So...today we have:
International Day for the Abolition of Slavery Day - It seems a little redundant, but I guess that's how they wanted to have it worded.  I guess it's to distinguish it from other locales...but it's sad to think that there is still slavery going on around the world.  We are free so we just figure everyone else is.  I'm not sure what we can do about it, possibly donate funds or time?  Something to think about.  There's been several signs in my neighborhoods talking about human trafficking.  I believe it's the same thing.  It's all wrong.

National Mutt Day - National mutt day recognizes that there are more mutts than pure breeds out there and they are loved too!!  We have a couple of them at our house, and while I'm not really a dog person, they're still cute.
This one looks just like my daughters dog.  Isn't he cute?

It's apparently National Fritters Day - though it's not Friday, when they're half price at Kent's Market in Clearfield, Bowmans still makes a mean fritter...

Safety Razor Day - I guess this is to honor the fact that men used to take their lives in their hands every time they shaved...or had the barber shave them.

Have you seen those old straight razors??  Even the so called safety razors that my dad used to use back in 1960's...that I sliced my leg on because I'd seen too many commercials with women shaving their legs in the tub, lol.  Nasty!!  Makes me wonder why beards weren't more of the fashion longer...  I'm glad I don't have to scrape the hair off my face everyday.

Special Education Day  I didn't even know we had one!  I think that means the Special Education department at my work should have an open house and serve cookies and hot chocolate...lol.  Oh well...it's a thought.

Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting - well, if you're into anything New York, you'll like this ceremony.  I like the Home Alone movies, and the second one takes place in New York.  That is some tree...  We have lots of cool lighting ceremonies here though.  Did anyone go to the lights at Temple Square?  We didn't brave the cold, lol.  Did you realize they have been lighting them now for 50 years this year?  The Deseret News has a fun set of photos from then till now.  We went once when our girls were little babies...and it was sooo cold!!  We got stuck in the middle by the tabernacle, there were so many people!  Then we went with our younger kids and a friend a couple of years ago...and there was hardly anyone.  crazy.

Special Kids Day -  as if having a special ed day wasn't enough, we even get a day that celebrates special kids.  What is kind of fun about this site is that it's promoting playgrounds that are accessible to all children, regardless if wheelchair bound or not. Kind of cool.

Hope you have an awesome day!!

And so it begins...

So, today is the 1st day of December...and we begin the official countdown!
Can you believe how fast the past three months have gone??  I can't.  I thought October went fast and then November was gone before I knew it. I just hope December goes a little slower...I want to enjoy every day of it.
Today we have a couple of fun things, and a couple of serious things, so lets see how they go...

Antartica Day - For those of you who want to support the south pole, I guess. Actually, I guess a treaty was passed to make sure the area was for science and conservation.  I thought it was becoming a popular tourist attraction...

Civil Air Patrol Day - I'm kind of excited to know that there is a civil air patrol day.  My father-in-law was a big participant in that, and went TDY all the time.  He went several places over seas, and brought back souvenirs for his family.  We have this large wood carved thing from the Philippines - looks like something about the pioneers...lol.  But it makes me think of him.  He passed away about 12 years ago.  sigh.

Rosa Parks Day - I think we all recognize the name, and it's kind of fun that she get's her own day.  The world has changed a great deal since then, though many think it hasn't changed at all. It's all a person's point of view...

Giving Tuesday - I thought this was kind of fun...apparently it always follows Cyber Monday.  I like it...it encourages goodness, right?  I have to recommend a video though...Studio C did a spoof that talked about cyber Monday...

though giving Tuesday is better... 😊

Hope you all have a great day!  Only 24 days left...and I tell you, this Grandma hasn't even started yet....sigh.

Monday, November 30, 2015

We got snow!!

I hope you had a great weekend and Thanksgiving!  Personally I'm excited about the snow...though my husband will tell you that I've been complaining about the amount, lol.  An inch??  Really??

Cider Monday - I like this one!  We love cider at my house.  Some hot cider with left over pie??  Yum!

Cyber Monday - I think it's interesting that both of these are on the same day, lol.  Anyone do black Friday?  My son's work actually counts that as a holiday.  Good grief.  What does that say about our society??

Computer Security Day - not sure why they'd have a day for this - but if you don't have a security system on your computer, you really need to consider it.  There are lots out there that are free...and during black friday specials you can get rebates on them like McAfee or Norton for .5 or $1 after rebate type stuff.  Worth the effort.

National Meth Awareness Day - I saw this and had to laugh.  Studio C did a spoof on some kind of TV show, and it was a MATH teacher tutoring math...it was hilarious.       I guess it would be funnier to those of you who worked with me and Math is a big thing in our district, so it's funny....but Meth is a serious issue and I hope no one things I'm making light of it...sigh.

Stay Home Because You're Well Day - I like this, because it's like the take a sanity day. Today would have been good with the snow.  But all of us hope to be well.

Hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving, and are ready to start the Christmas season!
26 days to go...

Thursday, November 26, 2015

Happy Thanksgiving!

I would like to take a moment before the craziness of the holiday season kicks in and say how thankful I am for my life, my husband who is soooo wonderful and supportive and handsome and funny and almost perfect, my children - though I admit I probably don't appreciate or love them as much as I should, my brothers and sisters and extended family -- they are what this time of year is all about.

I am so thankful for the Savior and His atonement, the gospel and a living prophet.  Without those things, all of this is....nothing.

I am thankful to live in a country where I can practice my religion, can go where I want and be free to think and do what I want. (mostly, lol)  I am thankful for the job I have, and the people I work with, they are awesome.

I am thankful for my talents, I love being able to write and to paint.  I know that I'm not perfect at either one, but I love doing it, so I guess that counts.  :)

I should mention that this is not all expressly in order, but in how they come to mind.

Because I also love my grandchildren.  I think being a grandmother is the best thing ever.

As silly as it sounds, I am thankful for running water, furnaces, electricity, hot water, and refrigerators.  I especially am fond of indoor plumbing...

I hope you enjoy this marvelous day with family and friends.  Remember to thank the Lord for all you have.  He's awesome.

Wednesday, November 25, 2015

It's Wednesday! The day before the chaos...

So...I forgot to mention that yesterday was Brownielocks day!!  Brownielocks is the site where I get most of my wacky holidays from.  :)  You might have noticed the little add to the right...I'm hoping you have...anyway, it's a fun site filled with TONS of information.  :)

Now that we've covered that...Guess what??  I've reached 53,000 words!  I still have like what, four or five more days to go, and I've totally already made Nano!  Man, it's nice when you're already in the habit of writing every day.  :)  I told my hubby, I don't know that I'll do this anymore.  I have managed to make the habit that I wanted, so no more crazy Novembers.  I guess we'll see.  The story isn't finished, and so I'm hoping to get that done before the end of the month.  Should work...

We are supposed to get snow today.  Who knows.  My hubby says I'm too skeptical, but hey, we've been supposed to get snow twice so far and it hasn't happened, so I'm not holding my breath.  Ya know?  We'll see how this evening goes...

Today is my families traditional waffle dinner!  I don't know when we started it or why, but we've been doing waffles for the night before thanksgiving dinner for ages.  We usually do fruit topping and whipped topping and it's allll so yummy.  I totally forgot about whipped topping when I was shopping yesterday, I was only thinking about pie.  Guess I need to go to the store...again...sigh.  :)

How about you?  Are you already for the big day of feasting and family?  It's supposed to be the last one for my extended family.  They all think we are getting too big.  What's too big??  Just because a simple gathering with all the grandchildren makes it around 60 to 70... I mean, what's with that?  lol.  Everyone says rent a church, but we like my sister's house, and it holds everyone just fine.  It just puts all the work on her though, which isn't entirely fair. In addition to the house with tables and chairs, she provides the turkey and potatoes and we bring everything else.  We're usually over the night before setting everything up...guess I need to find out what time they're doing that so I can help.  My one daughter could come...the other is working at Kneaders...so everyone remember that you have to pick up all your orders tonight...they aren't open tomorrow!!!!

Monday, November 23, 2015

Happy Monday!

Hi everyone!  Well, running a little behind today, so you probably won't see this till morning, and then we'll have new stuff, but at least I tried, lol.
Fun stuff for those of you who like mental things,...
first, it's Doctor Who Day - did you know that Dr. Who has been around since 1963?  It's almost as old as I am...😊  I have heard about Dr. Who since I was a kid, but never really got into watching it.  My son is a great fan, so I'll say at least it rubbed off on someone, lol.
Fibonacci Day - Anyone who has watched DaVinci Code knows what the Fibonacci number is. Personally, I don't think that hard about numbers...
International Image Consultant Day - I thought this was kind of funny...how many of us are talking to image consultants?  Personally, I think you're all marvelous and whoever your consultant is deserves a raise.  ðŸ˜Š  Actually, you should fire them because you are marvelous on your own.
Last...for those of you coffee addicts...National Expresso Day
National Espresso Day - Home
Celebrating National Espresso Day ... The Origins of Espresso Espresso made its debut in Italy in the early 20th century although coffee was already very much a part ...
Remove preview
It's my understanding that espesso is coffee on a high...lol.  So, that's why they serve it in little tiny cups, right?  Anyway - if you're into it, today would be the day to celebrate.
Have a good one!

Thursday, November 19, 2015

Happy Thursday and a Week till Turkey Day!

Okay peoples, so, it's not snowing.  What's the deal??  I've been waiting with bated breath all week, only to hear it's supposed to rain.  :(  this is not good.  We need snow people...SNOW!!  lol.  Okay, I'm fine.  I guess if we get it in the mountains it's all good, and I'm sure people don't want to drive in it.
I still want it.  :)
I think my daughter gave me her cold...though it's only in my nose.  UGH.  I wasn't sure if it was just stronger allergies or cold, but I think it's sinus.  Just draining all.the.time...
And just in case you're curious, I'm at almost 38,000 words...so not too far behind.  I saw yesterday where one of my author friends had already reached 50,000.  Do they have a LIFE???  sigh.  I am lucky if I get 2 hours or so to write, and I have to make those little fingers move!!  lol  Good thing they invented computers...writing is soooo much faster and easier that way.
Anyway - there is lots of silliness today, so here we go.  :)
And by the way - yesterday was push button phone day.  Does anyone remember the rotary dial??  Hello??  sigh.  I am soo glad for the push buttons.  Rotary were Sooooo slooowwww...

Anyway - we have lots of silliness today, I'll see which ones I think you'd like.
American Made Matters Day - this is kind of cool.  My hubby and I are big on trying to buy what's made in America.  He about died when I bought a 175 pound cast iron sink to replace our old one, but I was excited it was made in America!!  lol

Great American Smokeout - this is about stopping smoking, not smoking meat, lol.  Though, I'm sure you could twist it that way if you wanted.  Know anyone that needs to quit??  this is the day to really encourage it.

Rocky and Bullwinkle Day - who can remember who these two are??  I grew up with their cartoons.  Fun stuff!!  Lots of todays kids have no idea...

Use Less Stuff Day - I guess this is good for all of us that are somewhat materialistic now.  We have sooo much stuff that we need to put it in storage??  (sorry, rant at my daughter who is living with us right now, lol.)

And last...thought this was kind of funny...
World Toilet Day!
When you think about it, the toilet is really one of the most necessary inventions in the world...at least to women!!  lol.  I am thankful every day!!  (and for running water and electricity, lol)
Anyway - I guess there are still many countries around the world that don't have toilets like we know them, so perhaps it needs to be a crusade.  What ever...it's too close to Friday to think that hard.
Well...Hope everyone has an awesome day!

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

Tuesday Treasures!

Well...it's Tuesday and I have stuff to say!  Yesterday was kind of boring on the blogging front, but today there's a couple of fun things.
If I can keep my nose from feeling like things are running and packing at the same time, it would be good.  I don't want to take another sick day this month...sigh.  But bed does sound soooo good.  I can't go to bed though, I've got Nano to catch up on!  I'm only at 25,000 words, and I need to be at least 32000 by now.  :(
Oh well...I'll just have to spend most of Saturday writing...
Anyway - onto Tuesday.  :)
It's Homemade bread day

Isn't that the best news ever?  Everyone loves fresh homemade bread.  Mmm...I think I'll have to make some.  though, it might be my 30 min roll recipe, might not have time for the 90 min bread one...we'll see.  What's your favorite bread?  I keep trying to make sourdough, but the starter always gives me fits.
(photo credit -  © | Dreamstime Stock Photos)

National Entrepreneurship Day -  Well, if you know anyone who is trying to start their own business, give them a high 5 today, and see if you can support them in some way.  My brother-in-law is the embodiment of the entrepreneur mentality - he amazes me.  He's gone from dirt poor and owing money to unsavory sharks, to a self made millionaire who keeps finding ways to make money.  Think of him every time you eat an Angela Marie Marshmallow Munchie.  😊  (you can usually find them at Smiths)

and last...National Unfriend Day.  good grief...you have to have a day to remind you to clean out your friend box at Facebook?  I try only to friend people I know, but I have several writing acquaintances, where people who know them try to friend me.  I know there's a point to networking, but when you get posts from people you have no clue who they are, well, time to start unfriending ...friend.  😊

Hope you all have a marvelous day!  only 9 days till Thanksgiving and all the turkey you can eat!!  😊

In Their Honor...

Happy Veterans Day.

I guess in other places it's called Armistice Day, but I like that we honor veterans.  I have several in my family, and my brother-in-law (who is currently living with us).  We have former Marines, Air Force, Rangers, Navy, and Army.
I'm hoping my sons got the flag up...I didn't have time before I left for work.  What do you do in your families to honor the veterans?  Our neighborhood usually has a dinner for them, but I haven't heard about it this year.  My children have many great examples of these men in our family...too bad they haven't really followed them.  sigh.  I am so glad I live in this country, despite it's troubles right now.
We are still free.

It's also Origami Day
My daughter is almost an expert at folding Origami.  She made a mobile for my granddaughter out of butterflies.  It was amazing.  😊  She has all the different kinds of paper you can think of, and several books of patterns.  My sister-in-law even had her help with a woodbadge family camp this past summer and teach Origami.  She kind of liked it...

I hope everyone is having a great week and getting lots accomplished!  I can't believe Thanksgiving is in two weeks...and Christmas is...
6 1/2 weeks away!  Oh boy...and I'm soooo not ready!
Well, have a good one and keep warm.  It's chilly out there!

It's Friday and we Love Food..

Right?  Well...at least when I get to pick it.
Well, so, it's Friday and we have a couple of fun things to smile about.
first...it's still kind of snowing, so if you're doing the snow dance, don't let anyone know - there are some that will hunt you down, lol.
We have a couple of items that we get to enjoy, like
National Nachos Day! Yeah!...one of my favorite foods.  I don't get it with the fake cheese stuff, my hubby won't allow that in the house...sigh.  But we still have fun with them all gooey with cheese and sour cream and ...definitely dinner tonight.
😊
It's also Love Your Lawyer Day - and since my sister is my lawyer, that makes it REAL easy, lol.  I'm hoping she get's it from more than me...

and last-
National Saxophone  day.  I'm not real thrilled about that, but hey, musical instruments are good.  So, if you know any sax music or like listening to it, have fun with that!  I'm afraid I associate them with a former president and I just don't like them, lol.  😊

So, there ya go!  Enjoy the weekend, play in the snow  (not likely, isn't sticking...) and eat nachos!  We know how to party, right?

It's Snowing!

Okay...so it's only flakes, but it's all good!  Apparently tomorrow it's supposed to actually stick... 😊  happy dance....

Well, just a few fun things today.  It's Thursday!  It's snowing!  Life is good.  😊

It's also Love Your Red Hair Day.  So...if you happen to have red hair, it's your day!!  Hmm...don't really know a red head...oh wait, my hubby's nephew's wife...lol  Didn't Ariel have red hair?  :)

National Men Make Dinner Day!  (And Brownielocks site says they must cook, no BBQ allowed, lol.)  Awesome idea...I'll have to figure out how to encourage my hubby to cook tonight...or my youngest son.  I guess he's technically a 'man' so he could do it...  😊  My hubby says that since he's married me he's forgotten how to cook and if I die before him, he'll starve to death.  :-\

Do your husbands like to cook? I'd love to hear what their specialty is.  My hubby cooks an awesome sloppy joe.  :)

Have a great day!!

It's the Middle of the Week Already???

It's the middle of the week already...and November.  Whew things are going by fast.  Today there are just a couple of items that I thought you'd enjoy.

National Candy Day -
well now, an excuse to eat up the rest of the Halloween candy, right?   What's that, you say?  You already ate all the candy?  Okay then...I guess you've had your candy day. lol  We still have a bowl sitting out that my daughter bought since no one is young enough to trick or treat anymore.  Ugh.  Ate entirely too many laughy taffys last Saturday and paid for it Sunday.  No thanks...

and kind of to counter act that...lol
National Use Your Common Sense Day.  Who needs a day like this??  Oh well...we do need a reminder now and then, I guess.  Even as adults..because most of us don't want to be adults any more.  Especially when we have adult children who are refusing to grow up and ...never mind.  😊

So, enjoy this lovely brisk fall day and eat some candy.  I would recommend the dark chocolate stuff, lol.

Happy Monday!

You survived the weekend!  So did we.  Sigh.  I tell ya, it was definitely not a relaxing one.  Can you believe it's November already?  Crazy how fast October went!  Well...just a few fun things for today.  Hopefully everyone had a great Halloween, we had fun!  My granddaughters came over and I got to paint their faces
and then went trick or treating at GG's care center (great grandfather).  They loved it.
It was a crazy weekend beyond that though...sigh.  We didn't get any trick or treaters!!  :(

So...today is Fill Your Stapler Day...good to have on the list...especially for those of us who continually use them.  😊  Although, why do we have to have a day to remind us??  lol

Cookie Monster Day!!
Yeah!!  That means we can all eat cookies like the cookie monster, right?  Well...at least eat cookies.  we ought to take a poll and find out what the favorite cookie is.  I'm voting for chocolate chip...  (this was off the internet....)

and last that I'm going to mention is Plan your Epitaph Day.  Hm...is that like writing your own obituary?   A little morbid, but also on the side of what have you done with your life and what do you want to do?  A little thought provoking.

Well...it's a great new week...we might even get snow Wednesday, last I heard.  Everyone ready for winter??  It's that time of year!  And...for those of us grandmothers...Only 7 weeks till Christmas!  Oh boy...

and ...even more important (depending on your priorities, lol)  Only 4 days till the new Peanuts Movie comes out!!  I tell ya, we're counting the days in my house.  😊
(I got this off their gallery)

Have a good one!!

Chocolate!!

So - today is National Chocolate Day!!  Love to celebrate this one.  :)  already started with yesterday...I was craving chocolate, so I made a quick batch of chocolate fudge pumpkin cookies that are SOO easy...

I'll post the recipe on my food blog....

Anyway - I'll have to figure out if there's something else I want to make today.  Probably not...there's still cookies left over.  :)  of course, that's unless my sons get to them before I get home...sigh.

Anyway - have an excellent day!!

(chocolate photo found on the web...as also found the keep calm and eat chocolate one... didn't see any credits to give reference to...so hopefully no one is upset with me!)

I have to say - every since the phrase Keep Calm and...came out, people are putting it with everything.  I think I'll make one for the upcoming month of NaNO...

Keep Calm and Keep writing!!  lol

Saturday was Fun...

I agreed to help with a fundraiser type thing on Saturday, and it was soooo much fun.  It was for Gigi's playhouse,
which if you haven't heard, it's a lovely place for Downs Syndrome children and their families.  They operate for free for those families, and it was an honor to help with the 5k run/carnival on Saturday.  I'm hoping next year is even bigger.
I was there doing face painting, and it was sooo much fun, I can't stop saying it, it really was!!  Right next to me were the wonderful evil queens...Queen of Hearts, Cruela De'vill, and Maleficent.  They were kept company with Ariel (we wondered where Ursula was) and on our other side were Anna and Elsa.  The queens were getting ready to leave so I begged my hubby to take a picture of them, as they had been making us laugh all morning.
They were happy to oblige, and you can see they were all so charming!

And then there were the kids...  I had fun with all of them.  :)

I really enjoyed the Queen of hearts though...she said that I was an incredible face painter, and I was glad she wasn't yelling "off with her head", lol.

They were so believable, that some of the kids were reluctant to come see them.  They kept assuring them that they were nice!  Really!  :)

I was a little stiff...and since I was sitting most of the time (as is usual when face painting), it was REALLY hard to stand up and walk.
You see, I'd tried revisiting my youth on Thursday.  I played volleyball with the women of our stake...in preparation for a tournament that starts this Thursday.  I wasn't sure what I had signed up for...I have to admit that I haven't played volleyball in YEARS!  Um...decades??  That's so ODD.
Anyway - I was relieved to discover that I could still play...did rather well considering my age and shape...(ugh) and went home feeling like it had been the most fun in a LONG time.  (can you tell I like to emphasis things?)
Sigh.  And then I woke up on Friday morning with leg muscles that were screaming at me. OH my.  They didn't feel somewhat normal again until yesterday.  I'm serious!  I could hardly hobble - I felt every minute of my over 25 years old body - and then some.  I didn't get a bruise on my wrist until Sunday morning...which was interesting.  I'm wondering how to wrap it for the game on Thursday so that I don't make it worse...since that's how I serve.  (I know, underhand is so old school, lol)
It was so funny...I kept asking one of the other women - "So, what does the score go to now?  How does the scoring go?" etc.  I mean, I had to update my brain...
But it was fun.  I wish I'd thought of signing up in previous years.  sigh.
So...gauntlet is down ladies.  If any of you have had thoughts of playing volleyball and had played in your youth but you're afraid of embarrassing yourself...already been done and no one cared.  LOL
Have a good one.
Oh...
today was Grouchy Co-Worker day...  don't really have any, so I posted this video from Studio C on the most annoying co-worker...I figure that works.  :)

Is It Friday Yet? sigh...

Okay - you know it's going to be a long week when you think Tuesday is Friday!!!  All day I had to keep reminding myself that we'd only just begun....ARGH!  I don't get it...except for perhaps the long weekend last week made it hard to go back to work.  Oh well.  Today we have a couple of fun things...so perhaps it will make it a great Thursday!  See...I do know what day of the week it is, lol.

Caps Lock Day.  Okay, so I remember my daughter commenting on someone saying they were mad at her on Facebook.  Her comment to us was, "What are they going to do?  Caps Lock me?"  Used to be using the caps lock key was for something very important, for emphasis.  Now it means someone is angry with you and you are getting a text that is equivalent to a howler (in potter-eese) lol. I'm not sure why they would want to celebrate it....brownielocks (the site I refer to) removed the link they had because of profanity.  Groan.  really??
So...
National Nut Day!  For those of you who love nuts (like me) Are a nut, lol (again like me) this is your day!!  I just love the texture of nuts in things...love to munch on almonds...especially the ones my hubby found in Costco that are dark chocolate covered almonds sprinkled with a little sea salt.

I could have skipped the salt, but the chocolate part is dang good...

Smart is Cool Day.  I think we've been trying to convince people of this since the word 'nerd' was coined.  It might finally becoming a reality, but not in elementary schools...sigh.  If you watch the TV series Scorpion, you'll see what I mean.  We love that show!!  Now if our daughter had just ignored the people who gave her a bad time about being smart in Jr high ( I know...don't you just love jr high??? NOT) (see....emphasis!! lol)  she might not be having such a hard time in college math now.  sigh.
Anyway -
last item was more of a community awareness thought...
International Stuttering Awareness Day.  I didn't realize it was that large of a problem, but apparently it is.  My youngest sons all had a speech problem that I thought was stuttering, but the SLP told us it was Studdering, which was something totally different.  Hm...  It still makes them feel awkward and they don't do well when speaking in front of groups or when reading outloud.  My boys have all since overcome it...
Hope you had a great week so far...remember we're having excellent fall weather!  We might not freeze on Halloween, but it could still happen.  I get to pick up a LARGE pumpkin at a neighbors house today, and I'm excited.  Don't know if we're going to attempt to carve it...would loose a grandchild doing that, lol.
Have a good one!!

Back to the....Past?

Okay - so Back to the Future is officially on everyone's mind since today is the day they used in the movie...in 1985.  Everyone thought the world would be SOOO much farther than it is.
In some ways it did improve...alot.  Just think about DVDs and cell phones and flat screen tvs.  Heck, my hubby is installing computer monitors at his work the size of tv screens, with the CPU built in...wild.
Everyone is all wanting to know about the gimiky things though...like where are the hover boards?  Flying cars?  Dehydrated pizza?  Self tying shoes? Automatically drying clothes?
I think we're long away from flying cars...hover boards are apparently in the works and who wants a dehydrated pizza...I do think the self drying clothes would be good, especially for kids!! ;)
Anyway - so for those of you who like trivia...here's a clip of some of the top 10 moments of the films.  Enjoy!
Great Scott...time to get to back to work!  :)

It's Monday!

And it's raining, which is great!  It finally feels like fall.  Hope you all had a great long weekend and are ready to hit the ground running!  (well...some of us it's more like limping along, but ya know...)
Only have one thing today, and only because it reminds me of a movie line that makes laugh.
Today is Evaluate Your Life Day.  Reminds me of the prequel Star Wars movie where they're in a bar, and Obi-Wan Kenobi:runs into a drug dealer.
(photo from The Soul of the Pilot Blog...don't know where he got it...lol)

He does the whole Jedi thing on him and says "You don't want to sell me death sticks."  The guy repeats it after him, then he continues.  "You want to go home and re-think your life."
I think that's what today is.  A day for all of us to Evaluate or Rethink our lives.  Usually that's something all of us do around New Years...when we do the whole resolution thing.  But it is always helpful to take stock of where you're at and see if you need to improve something or if you want to change something.
Are you happy with your life in general?  Are you frustrated with where you're at?  Just a friendly reminder that we are the masters of our fate.
Where is your ship going?
Have a great one!

Lucyyy....you have some splainin to do!!

Okay - so I couldn't not post today, it's I Love Lucy Day!!!  how could we miss that one??  I LOVED that show.  I watched the original ones in black and white...(oh boy, I guess that dates me...lol)  But anyway, had to remind everyone to be sure and watch your favorite episode today.  Because she totally rocks, ya know??  Though I love Lucile Ball in just about anything.  We have the movie she made with Henry Fonda, Yours Mine and Ours?  It's soooo perfect.  ;)  Here's one of my favorite episodes...

Anyway - in addition to that importance, it's Global Handwashing Day - as if you'd want to miss that...I guess they're trying to stress the importance of hand cleaning to third world countries??  Hm....most 5 year old's need to be reminded as well.  I promise...I have a 5 yr old granddaughter...

International Day of Rural Women.  Really??  People celebrate being rural??  OR are they trying to bring the city to the rural girl?  Not sure, and don't have the time to look it up this morning, so I'll just have fun with it.  What do you think??  I'm soooo not Rural.  Where we live was once considered rural, but my hubby doesn't call our youngest daughter 'city girl' for nothing.  ;)

National Cake Decorating day.  Hey!  that's a fun day...if I had any ambition, I'd decorate a cake.  But you see,...I did that two weeks ago.  And...that was good for now.  sigh.  My daughter-in-law liked it, so that's all that was important.  ;)  I've done lots of decorating, ya know.  I have 7 kids...and most of them liked fancy cakes.  I even made a pirate ship for one of them, and I thought it turned out pretty decent, but unfortunately I can't locate any photos on the computer...sigh.  So, you'll have to take my word for it, lol.  Here's a site that has some pretty neat ones...

National Grouch Day.  Hey - If I were more of a grouch, I would think this was my day, but I'm afraid I'm not, so if you know someone who is, then let them know they have an official day.  It might even cheer them up a little.  ;)

Well, enjoy this awesome fall day.  It's gorgeous!!

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

It's Wednesday...and a Friday at the same time, lol

So - in case you haven't picked it up from my previous posts, I work for a school district.  This school district has a fall break in October.  Used to be called Hunters weekend, but then the state took it over and called it UEA...and then everyone gave up on that (because most of the educators weren't attending?  And now they call it Fall Break.  Works for me...I don't have to work tomorrow and Friday.  So...that makes today my Friday.  I'm a happy camper.  :)  I know...doesn't take much to make me happy, huh?

Anyway - so we have some holidays to celebrate today.
National Bring your Teddy Bear to Work and School Day.  Failed on that one, lol .  I just don't have a small one that's handy to carry around with me...anyone else bring one?

National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day - too bad my kids don't read my blog...perhaps I should forward it to them, lol.  See if you can get your kids to take you out!  You deserve it!

And last for the day...

Spiderman Day - apparently the Mayor of New York declared October 14th Spiderman Day It could have been a one time thing, but hey, if you're a fan, it's a good day to keep in memory.  Personally, I REALLY like the new ones...didn't quite like Toby McGuires version...although I did like Francos version of his friend...so if you could have a dream team, ya know?  Anyway - that's all for today.

Hope you have an awesome day...dream big and all that.  It's a gorgeous day!

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
