Happy Thursday! I mean...why not?

It's not like the middle of the week is a big deal right now, lol.  So any day is a big day.  This week has seemed like FOREVER!  I'm not sure why...  but such as it is...  It's interesting that the site I look at for most of the celebration days marks when something has been cancelled by the Covid 19.  One of them, I think is hilarious...

Celebrate Teen Literature Day- apparently this is during national Library week or something.  Since school isn't in, and the libraries are all closed, I don't know how you're supposed to do this exactly, except to perhaps download something if you don't have loads of books at home,... (like we do).  There's lots of good stuff out there to get kids reading...  some of my favorites are Elantris (Brandon Sanderson- or his new series, Skyward, is awesome) Drangonsong series (Anne McCaffrey or her Ship Who Sang series or the unicorn one) Anne of Green Gables (or is that too young??) Harry Potter series (J.K. Rowling) ... I know lots of kids liked the Twilight series - though personally, I liked The Host better (Stephanie Meyer).  Have fun!!!

English Muffin Day - I love English muffins.  I hear they're kind of a pain to bake, if you are doing them from scratch.  They need a rim thing, to hold their shape, you can bake them on the stove...but I've seen some sourdough aficionados bake them, so I don't know...  I love them toasted, and I love them with eggs benedict.  I try to buy whole wheat ones when I see them.  What is your favorite?

Movie Theatre Day - If this were any other day in the earlier part of the year, I would suggest everyone go see a movie.  sigh.  I don't know how the movie theaters are handling this - I do hope they come back when they let them re-open.  Yeah, I think drive ins are fun, but they used to be funner...when it didn't matter how many were in a car and we could spread out on top the roof of our van, or the back of our truck, with lawn chairs in front of it.  The kids would fall asleep after the first movie and we'd stay up and watch the second one in blissful silence.  I miss going to the movie, not that we went a lot--but we still went once in a while.  I like having a bigger screen, no one bugging your with questions, and yes, I did like the popcorn.  What do you miss about theaters??  I think it's fun that a couple of the neighborhood theaters are offering (or were) for people to come get popcorn and pop for their home movie nights...

National Pie Day - This is as opposed to the 3.14 pie day, lol.  There was a statement with this that it had been cancelled as well.  I don't know why... can't we all bake a pie at home??  I think it's due!!  Everyone seems to be baking up a storm (except me, I have yet to bake a loaf of regular bread.  I've made some banana bread...lol) why not do pie??  You could teach home ec 101...the essentials of pie crusts.  Then of course, you'd have to decide which pie to make.  I think we still have some pumpkin...

Take Your Daughters & Sons to Work Day CANCELLED due to COVID-19.  This is the one that I found humorous!!!  I mean, aren't most of us working from home???  Aren't the kids automatically kind of at work with us then??  so hey, why was it CANCELLED???  Don't you think it's funny?? Hey kids... we don't have to work today! it was cancelled!!  lol

Talk Like Shakespeare Day- Okay...so wrapping my head around this one.  Have you watched a Shakespeare play?  It's alot like reading the bible...  a lot of Thee's and Thous...  so, Wouldst thou prefer to have thy bread sliced with my sword or with thy cousins blade?  I think it would take longer to get any words out...

World Book Night - This is apparently bigger in England than here, but I like it.  Read!! If you like to read, this is a wonderful thing - an excuse, if you will - to read!  I rarely get the chance anymore...  especially for just reading for enjoyment.  This would be a great night to have everyone grab a book and sit and read by the fireplace, don't you think??  Everyone should be tired of watching TV by now...

A handsome returned missionary asked me to marry him.  (actually, 34 years ago yesterday...didn't have time to post it, lol)  I was so thrilled...  then he took me out for dinner at GodFather's Pizza (which is in VERY short supply now) and we had so much fun.  Then we went to a dance at the University Institute...where my roommate met her future husband, lol.  It was to quote a line from the Christmas Carol "A night never to be forgotten."
I still love this man with all my heart...and would say yes in a heartbeat.  Now the countdown to our wedding anniversary...  :)

It's Friday!! not that that matters much right now... lol

Because we're all mostly home anyway, so hey, not a big deal or change, but still...it's Friday!!  I think we all need something to get excited about!  Today is more about movie clips than usual, so hopefully you're in the mood.  I think it's still chilly enough that we're gonna want to be inside and watching movies this afternoon...so it's all good.  Hopefully you've had a great week...got lots done...been able to hide out in your home office.  We have been able to actually get out to schools a day or two, which made the 'I'm at work even though I'm home' a little more set.  Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy the weather this weekend, work in the yard, or play with kids...  still can't go anywhere, but ya know, it's outside!!  Just a couple things to share...

Ellis Island Family History Day - I've never been to New York, but one of the things that would be fun to visit would be Ellis Island.  If I remember correctly, everyone who came to the states back in the day, had to go through there.  I can't imagine the crowds and the confusion...not knowing the language, most not having family to greet or help them...  Crazy.  But they felt it was worth it...the American Dream awaited.  Have you traced any of your ancestors to this place?  It reminded me of Hitch...

Ford Mustang Day -  Mustangs are cool looking cars, and my brother had one when I was a senior that he let my younger brother drive to school.  It was fun, and I think he thought he was cool, lol.  That car got passed down from brothers to sons...and I think it's still in the family, after almost 40 years.  I'm sure it's had lots of work done on it, but when Ford realized that they needed to come up with something to get the attention of teenagers, and developed the mustang, they hit it on the nail.  Of course, the camaro was awesome too, and there were a few others...but today is the day it was introduced in 1964.  Crazy to think it's only been around that long...  If you haven't seen the movie Ford vs Ferrari, I would highly recommend it!! (especially with some kind of language filter... it does have language!! 😲)  Matt Damon does awesome, as does Christian Bale.  Here's a clip of that very day...

Nothing Like A Dame Day
- So, apparently this is a big day in Brittain - and in honor of their Christmas theaters where the men play women.  Remember how back in WAY back, there were no women actors - it was all men.  Perhaps this is the off shoot of that...  but the men still dress up on this day (not like their trying to be believable, but silly).  Personally, it makes me think of the movie South Pacific and the musical number.  I'm not sure anyone has seen it that was born after 1990, lol, but they should.  It's so much fun. Many phrases that we grew up with were from that movie - "I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair" is one of them.  Here's the clip about Dames...  lol

National Cheeseball Day - If you like cheeseballs, today is your day.  Most of us only see them during the holidays...Thanksgiving, Christmas...  but they're good for other social gatherings that we don't have or encourage right now.  But what about a gathering of family in front of the fireplace?  OR TV, or playing games?  cheeseballs are compact and easy to munch down on.  You can make your own with cream cheese and other cheeses added in, or find a recipe online.  Whatever your choice, enjoy!!

Hope you have an awesome day!!

What happened to March??? Happy late Easter!

I haven't written a blog for a week or so, it's just been so crazy, working from home... So - here I am trying again.  🙂  It's almost the middle of April, which is crazy.  We've been working at home (for the most part) for a month now.  Does that seem like a lifetime ago?  It took a good week to wrap my brain around the whole working at home bit.  Has it been a challenge for you?  I think it depends on who had children or grandchildren staying in the house - interruptions are hourly if not more, lol.  I'm just thankful all my children are grown and working (actually working!) and my grandkids are removable.  My daughter is on indefinite leave from her job, and so since she's finishing up her house to move back in, they go spend the day up there.  Mornings are the craziest time, as we're working (hubby and I) and she's getting them rounded up and trying to keep them quiet (well...ya know).

I admit that rolling out of bed at 7:45 and logging into my computer at 8 isn't bad...  but I do find it makes a difference to be dressed for the day as opposed to being in jammies.

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend.  The weather was so nice on Saturday - I even got one of my flower beds sort of cleaned out.  It was the smaller of them, lol.  Now I get to work on the pavers.  What has been your project while at home?  There are so many to choose from...

We did a driveby deserting at my mother-in-law's house yesterday.  We usually invite her over for Easter dinner, but since she's turning 89 this year, she's pretty cautious about anyone coming over and within 6 feet.  We dropped it on the porch and then she came out and chatted for a minute.  She was cold, there was a chilly breeze going, and so we told her to go back inside-but it was hard, she was so sad, she is all by herself, and doesn't have a chance to chat as much.

I've heard that alot.  People say they are lonely. Don't know what that' like... We live in a houseful of people, so that's not an issue we face...sometimes we wish we did, lol.  My daughter in Japan says she's bored, though she started training yesterday to go back to the classroom, which is good.

Well, there are always my grandkids favorites, funny cat videos...or having a video chat with someone... or music always makes it good for me.  I saw one the other day that was highlighted on a newsite, and it's awesome -

Scrabble DayThis is a good game to be playing during a confinement time. Especially with kids, works on the spelling skills, and vocabulary..as well as getting the brain to work.  Have you ever played speed scrabble?  It's one my mother-in-law taught us.  It's more like a freeform crossword puzzle, and you have however many people playing with their own set of letters.  You have to use all 7 letters, then whoever gets them used first yells go, and you grab 5 more letters, and so one until the letters are all gone.  Whoever uses up all their letters in real words with correct spelling is the winner!  It's fun...
reminds me of another movie - Wedding Planner.  Remember how they were big on Scrabble??

and last... it's
National Peach Cobbler Day - one of America's favorite deserts, this is an easy one to toss together.  If you don't have fresh peaches (which, actually, don't work as well in this, isn't that strange? ) canned ones are awesome!  So toss some together and have a nice hot tasty desert for tonight.  It's just another item, ya know?  For comfort food, lol.

Hope you have an awesome day!!

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
