Well, I did it! I finished Nano! It was by the skin of my teeth, but I have to say, I was sick almost half the month and still made it. I was glad I had a story already in mind and it didn't take much brain power to get it out on paper. (or should I say on screen...grin)
Anyway, now it's on to Christmas! I love this time of year. I love the evergreen trees, the decorations, the smells, HOT CHOCOLATE! ;) For those of you who would like to read my nano entry, I've got it posted at my writing.com site. Here is the link...

Half way through...am I going to make it?
Well, it's nano. I'm half way through, and so far my word count is on. I fell behind for a while, but I've managed to catch up. Now my goal is to not fall behind again. I'm hoping that my story survives the masacre(How do you spell it?) of the word push, only time will tell. If you want to read what I'm writing, visit my website on Writing.com and you can read it there. sigh. Well...back to work!

It's getting time for Nano...
So, it's getting to be that time of year again... The Nanowrimo is just around the corner. I am so excited, and yet, it's a dread. which story am I going to work on? Which one can I finish this time? that is my goal this year, to actually finish something this time. My hubby was sooo dissapointed last year. I figure if I work on something that I've already started, it's a good chance that I'll finish it. the problem is...which one??? Oh well...keep checking in for the updates!

I love fall
Don't you love fall? I just love the changing of the leaves...the mountains are sooo gorgeous when this happens. I love the feel of the cool air (especially after a long HOT summer). I love pumpkins and scarecrows and the knowledge that the holidays are just around the corner. This has got to be my all time favorite time. Everyone ready for Christmas??? (grin)

summer time comes to a close...
Well, I can't believe August is almost halfway done. I've started working part time...for a school. Their school started August 1st! I'm thinking, what's wrong with this picture? What happened to summer time? My kids are still at home waiting for school to start. When I was growing up, school didn't start until after Labor Day. I'm thinking there wasn't much wrong with that...our kids get the weekend off anyway, what good does three days do??
Anyway, it will be strange with two of them out of school at home. One is working like a dog, the other just barely got a job. Why is it some people have no problem finding work and others can't seem to even interview?? And why is it that if you HAVE a job, it's easier to find one??
Life is ironic sometimes...
Well...celebrate the end of the summer. I know I will be.

fire in the hole...
I posted something yesterday, but it seems to have dissapeared. sigh. My dad's law firm burned down Tuesday. It was quite a shock. You know they have enemies (what law firm doesn't) but I hadn't immagined to what extent. They are considering it arson at this point. It's been a shock to everyone. In addition to that, the summer temps have arrived in force, and we are approaching the 100's. This is when I'd like to move back to California....grin. Or at least visit the beach for the months of July and August. I like the 70's - 80's are survivable, but 90's and 100's are too much for me. I hide out in my house in my basement where it's cool.
Anyway, with the fire, there isn't going to be any hiding this week...

Summer Blues/burning buildings
Well...one can tell it's summer here in Utah. We are in the 90's all week, and will probably be 100 before the end of the week. I wish my air conditioner worked better...
At least our basement is relatively cool. We turned off the air conditioner this morning and turned on the attic fan...cooled us off better than the ac did. sigh. how I wish for a pool....
I've been so uninspired this past month. And then Monday my dad's law office burned down!! He has been there for almost 50 years, and the little strip of businesses all burned down in a apparently arson related blaze. My brother and sister are also attorneys with him, and so now we have quite the challenge on our hands - new building, continuing practice with no phone and no mail coming for over a week! I was shocked when the secretary told me they couldn't hook the phone's up until Monday. That's crazy. And then the mail won't be switched until 7 -10 days... You'd think they' would work faster for businesses, but I guess not. So, they are just kind of winging things until stuff is up and working. The hardest part is recovering files and files and files... We are talking an office that wasn't based on computers and didn't really have them until 5 or 6 years ago.
They had tons of stuff that was just paper - no back ups. That is one of the biggest challenges. Sure is a testimony of why to have current back ups on everything and not have everything on site!!!

graduation time - can we skip it? Please?
Well, sat through my daughter's graduation from Seminary last night. Seminary - for those of you not familiar with it - is a religion class that lasts the four years of high school The kids graduate from it just like from High school. It doesn't mean anything in the working community, but it's nice for the kids...gives them an added thought that they have completed something worthwhile and has strengthened their knowledge of the Savior Jesus Christ.
Well...we sat there thinking about how far our lives have come. I have twins the same age...and just a minute a go I'm sure they were learning to walk...where does the time go? My hubby and I were crying and the other twin (who chose NOT to graduate) is like, why are you crying??? I stuck my tongue out at her, figuring she is not going to understand. It's almost harder on my husband - he is so tender hearted inside, they have no idea. This special man is such a gift to me.
Anyway, here we are thinking, wow. In a short 6 weeks, they will be considered old enough to leave home and find their own way in the world. I remember when I was at this point, and I was going to college. I had no idea why, just cause it was expected.
These two aren't graduating from school. They didn't get enough credit, and now they have to scramble through summer school and take the GED to get an adult diploma.
That is part of the tears. If only they could have tried harder, been more motivated...something...we would be going to the big time graduation. The one I remember as being HOT and stuffy and terribly boring...(grin)
Now they don't even fit into the school auditoriums...they have to rent out the college ball game fields and charge addmission. I don't think it's particularly worth it...I don't think the kids have any idea.
Oh well...I have another one who is trying to graduate next year. I'm not thinking she's going to make it either. Really makes me wonder where we went wrong. Where did their lack of drive or ambition come from? We can only hope that they'll pull themselves through adult hood with better skill than they have teenagerism.
My babies are growing up, and I'm glad, but sad at the same time. They were so adorable when they were little and playing on the carpet. The time is so fleeting - I almost wish I could just hold those moments again in my hand, grip it tightly so it won't go.
I love them.

Easter in March/cleanliness is next to what?
Well...it always messes me up, Easter in March. It's just supposed to be in April!! Also, I've realized that I'm making an average of one entry a month...which is interesting. At least I'm thinking about it! Which is what I wasn't doing before. Of course, I still don't have anyone reading me... but perhaps that will come. I sent off another short to the publishers on Friday. I'm hoping this has more possibilities than my other effort. I'm editing a novel right now that I'm going to be sending out hopefully by the end of the month. I've been very busy with the writing, actually, and you can tell by the condition of my home - I tell you, it's a good thing that the kids know where the clean clothes are dumped, and how to switch stuff from the washer to the dryer, or nothing would ever get washed and dried! ;) Just kidding. Have to say, there are some days when I don't even get laundry done. Is that pathetic or what??? At least there are still clean dishes and the kids are keeping their chores up - so we do have hope. Hope everyone has a good Easter weekend...our commercial Easter is on Saturday, with the usual Easter Egg hunt, etc.... Sunday is the more spiritual celebration of the resurection of our Savior. I love this time of year.

February is ove?
Where did it go? I'm afraid I was pretty busy this month with a writing challenge...it was a BIAM challenge. sigh. I didn't get as much done as I had hoped, although I still have today. It's been gorgeous weather here! We are gearing up for spring, which I'm giving up on winter and going ahead. Although, we tend to get late freezes out here, so I'm not getting too crazy.
We went to Fish Lake over Presidents Weekend...it was wonderful. So much snow, no people, all quiet... I didn't do any writing! Oh well...it was a nice break. My kids loved it.
Well, I'm gonna have to make this quick. I just can't believe March is tomorrow! Everyone looking forward to St. Patties day??? (grin)

I want snow
I realize I should be living back east. Anyone from there and reading my title will totally understand. They are buried in snow, and here we are with brown grass and only snow in the mountains. I also know full well my husband thinks its great...all the snow we can stand in the mountains, no driving in it down here. (sigh) But I want snow! I love watching those flakes falling lazily through the sky. I'm sure those back east would say, fine, you take it! I'd rather have none! It's amazing, the fury of a winter storm. The poor east coast has been battered the past 7 months. And the west coast, I guess I should add, the rain in California has been similar to rain forest stuff, right? They are wondering if they've broken off from the continent and drifted now, I can tell you. (sigh)
so, we're stuck in the middle, getting the moisture we need, but nothing that threatens anything, Which is a good thing! Right? Well,...my prayers go out to all of you having to deal with some kind of weather. I'm thinking it's time to move to Alaska....

Greetings for the New Year
Well, here we are in the new year, and I haven't written much, have I? Well, such as it goes, that's my life. I write tons in other areas, not much in personal. Is that how it is with you? Anyway, greetings from snowless lands...sigh. I really am missing regular winter, though I hate it when it does snow and I have to drive in it. At least our mountains have enough for hopefully to end the long droubt, but time will only tell. I have one main goal for this year... to be published as a writer. Does anyone want to share their goals?
