Got Tape?
Hey everyone! I hope you had an awesome weekend. Can you believe it's
Wednesday already? ;) Crazy how fast this month has gone.
Well, today we just have two things to commemorate. First is Cellophane Tape Day. Have you ever thought how different life would be without tape?? I mean, I've used it since I was a kid. I can't find any hint as to why this is a 'unofficial' holiday, or why it's even celebrated in the first place, but I did find out that the guy who invented masking tape (another lifelong standby, especially for education, lol) was the same one who created cellophane tape in 1930. Richard Drew worked for 3M back then and was quite the inventor. Have any of you heard of him before?? I certainly haven't.
And for those of you who have the years creeping up on them...or smacking them in the face -- today is National Senior Health and Fitness Day. The goal, (apparently) is to keep older Americans healthy and fit...always moving. I actually had someone give me the senior citizen discount yesterday...sigh. And I didn't have to show ID! :( dang! I mean, it's good and bad at the same time, right? Good cause, hey, 10% off is 10% off! But dang! I look that old already??? lol Oh well, time marches on. I saw this cool video of how some senior citizens in China manage to keep fit - thought you'd enjoy it. ;)
Did you have a great weekend? We actually made it out to the cemeteries on Monday. We have 6 that we go visit now...I hate how the number keeps growing. At least we haven't added any since 2013...though that's because my uncles don't live withing driving distance for one day... :( My sister's headstone isn't glued on right, so we're afraid it might get tipped over. I guess it should be okay if no one sits on it, right? :-/ Dad's and mom's were well decorated, as was my sis and bro. My father-in-law's had his airplane up as usual, and we spread the iris around that I'd brought from home. (they have gone crazy this year with all the rain this month!)
My poor bro...when we went to my nieces grave site, he was having a hard time of it. I can't believe it's been 18 years since she died. Crazy. I guess you never really get over the loss...sometimes it just smacks you alongside the head, ya know?
I told my bro, one of these years we need to take a trip to see our parents graves during the month of May. Probably not good to go during memorial day, though it would be fun to see what kind of ceremony they would do for dad... I guess we'll see. sigh.
Our schools are half out already and my job only has 6 days left. ;) Hubby was asking me what I'll be doing these last 6 days...not a whole lot!!! lol. I'm trying to justify being here, I'll tell you that! ;)
Well...hope you have a great week!

It's Friday and a Long Weekend!
I've been looking forward to this weekend all month. I get off early from work, and I'm taking an extra day off next week...so I'm really getting a five day weekend!! ;) Too bad I don't have anywhere to go...lol.
So, today we only have two things....
It's World Goth Day - so if you like dressing up that way, or like being that way, (like my daughter...sigh). This day is for you! Actually her preferrence is steam punk, but goth works too, lol. (photo is from wikipedia on goth culture - model Lady Amaranth)
And it's National Wig Out Day. If you need a day to release all your stress and get freaked out by everything around you, today is that day to cut loose!! Stand on your desk and yell at the top of your voice...go outside and yell like tarzan at the magpies... (oh wait...I do that everyday, lol - okay, I don't yell at them, I squirt water at them...:) Anyway, you get my drift. ;)
Tricked ya!! Unfortunately, that's not what it means, lol. It's a day that you can try wigs on and see if you like a different hair style. Go figure. I like my version better... ;)
So hopefully everyone has something relaxing and fun planned for the weekend! We're hoping to get tile laid down, so I guess we'll see. ;)
Have a good one!

Are We Done Yet?
So...I'm sitting here thinking...2 weeks left of school! I think many of the teachers feel like they're
on a road trip with kids in the back seat saying "Are we there yet?"
every five minutes? lol. Their students are close to binging off the walls for summer
vacation. And this weekend is the kick off to everything, right? ;)
So...today is National Hummus Day. For those of you who are clueless...Hummus is basically ground chickpeas with tahini and other stuff added, like grilled red peppers, or avocado, or whatever you can think of. Sabra is a national chain that is supporting this national day...so you can go there and get a coupon and stuff like recipes. Personally, I like hummus and I make it myself at home without a lot of oil, and no tahini (some kind of sesame seed paste). Anyway, I like it but, the rest of my family...not so much. ;) What's your favorite kind? I think it's best with those thick pita chips...
National I Need a Patch For That Day. If you could have a patch to put on to take care of an issues, what would you pick? A weight loss patch? A anxiety patch? I never heard of this holiday till this year...I thought it was about a patch on your clothes, cause I grew up patching my clothes, okay? lol. But it's not that kind of patch. So...I guess it's something...what would you want a patch for?
It's also Zombie Day...if you're into Zombies, you should be thrilled. Apparently back in 2011 they were claiming the world was going to end on October 21st, and anyone who survived would be a Zombie, or live in chaos, etc. Well...obviously the world didn't end on that date in 2011...but zombie day lives on...LOL. isn't that ironic.
And last - A Day Without Shoes. Some of you may have heard of this before, but I hadn't. There's a company out there called TOMS, and today when you send in a photo of your bare feet, they will contribute a pare of shoes to a child. At the time I'm writing this, there have been 259,582 pares of shoes donated! So everyone needs to take a photo of your bare feet. That's easy for me...by the end of the summer my hubby tells everyone that I belong to the Blackfoot tribe... lol.
So - hope you all have a great day! It's kind of fun to have sunshine, though I hear from the weather reports that it's temporary. I'm grateful for rain, but it is nice to see the sun once in a while and know that the sky is not permanently gray, right? ;)
Cheers!
update...
I tried to upload my daughter's and my feet for the Day Without Shoes...you have to have an instagram account. sigh. Since I don't, and I won't ever, I hope someone out there will do it in my place.
thanks...

Move Your Bloomin'....
Since I don't swear, I'll leave the rest of that quote blank. Anyone who's seen the movie/play knows what it is and why. ;)
Today is Eliza Doolittle Day. For anyone who has perhaps missed out on all the great musicals of the 60's-70's, Eliza Doolittle is a poor flower vender in the musical My Fair Lady. She's played by Audrey Hepburn, and her speech is atrocious. In the beginning of the movie she's imagining the king of England saying that on May 20th, the whole kingdom would celebrate her day.
Personally, I don't like the whole movie. There are parts of it that are wonderful - but I hate the end. UGH. The man's a pig. My hubby claims it's very romantic - so what do I know. I write romance, right? lol
(photo is from the article)
So anyway - theater geeks and movie buffs are the only ones that celebrate the day. ;)
My favorite parts are where she's dressed up and looks like a lady. Who can deny that Audrey Hepburn was elegant? sigh.
I read an article that said perhaps we are in need of such a movie/book today as at the time this one was made and the book written (Pygmalion). Many of our country have poor speech and it's celebrated. The article pointed out that President Roosevelt said "feah" instead of fear. No one blasted him in the papers, apparently.
And when President Obama speaks I just cringe...but that's me. I know there are many speech therapists who would agree with the idea. ;)
But anyway - be a little wild and celebrate raw language. It will drive all the speech therapists crazy. ;)
Arh - 'ave a g'one, gov. ;)

Have a Great Weekend?
So did I. I loved the rain on Saturday!! Felt bad for a neighbors
daughter...got married Saturday and only had 10 min where it was clear
enough for photos. ;) But it was a good day.
Today is I Love Recess day...didn't you love recess as a kid? I was sooo disappointed when I went to jr high and there was no more recess. Dang! ;) Does lunch count as recess? lol
It's also Visit Your Relatives day. I did that yesterday folks, so won't be doing it today, but take a minute if you can and visit your loved ones. It's my mother-in-law's husbands' 90th bday today. We had a party for him yesterday, but the open house is today. He's the only one in his family to have made it to this age, and we're proud of him. ;)
Here's to ya Verl!
Well...Hope you have a great day!

Did you wear Nylons or Stockings?
So - today has quite a few items.
National Chicken Dance Day! Who would have thought they'd dedicate a day to this?? lol. Anyone know how to do it? Here's a link to some kids doing a version...it's cute. ;)
National Nylon Stockings Day. Apparently on this day in 1940 the first nylon stockings went on sale. I believe the first ones used to have seams up the back of the leg. ;) I grew up with pantyhose, which was created in the late 1950's, early 1960s. Thank heavens! Though, have to say, don't wear them anymore...lol. TMI? sorry!
National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day! Now that's a holiday to celebrate! And I was thinking about making these last night...now I have a real excuse! Well...as if we ever need one to make cookies, right? ;) So how do you make yours...with Semi-sweet or milk? Because in my family, it's semi-sweet all the way!! lol I have to admit, we don't use much butter anymore - too greasy!
It's Stars and Stripes Forever Day - in celebration of the first public performance of John Phillip Sousa's immortal tune... Here's a link in case you haven't heard it in a while, performed by the official Presidents band...(didn't know there was one)
It's Bike to Work day! ;) There's a teacher here who does that everyday - a distance of about 10 miles one way...anyone else? My hubby used to until he didn't have a work vehicle. It's kind of hard to tote a computer and wires and boxes and...lol
And last but definitely not least....National Pizza Party day!! Yeah!! Can I heard an AMEN?? I think I've mentioned that pizza is my favorite food before... ;) So, party, party, party...lol. What's your favorite kind? We LOVE Godfathers, but you can't find them anymore. Roundtable is pretty good too, but if you can't have either of them, Dominos is next. And there's arguments in my family to what kind of topping...pepperoni, ham, pineapple, bacon, the list is endless. We usually make our own with eggs instead of yeast. Yummy stuff. ;)

Night Shift, baby!
It's Wednesday!! hey gang - it's the halfway mark to Friday and what a day! It's promising to be a gorgeous one. ;)
Today we have just one thing....
National Nighshift Workers Day! Woohoo for those that like to live the opposite life. ;) This would be my son...he works 6pm to 6 am three and a half days a week. ugh. I don't know how he does it, but he's been doing it for almost 3 years. Know anyone who works graves? Remember the movie from back when called Night Shift?
Oh well....let's leave the slime where it belongs, lol.
Hope everyone has a great day!

It
starred Henry Winkler and Michael Keaton. I never saw it, and I
wouldn't recommend it to those of the lesser wild side, lol. But I
remember when it came out it was supposed to be sooo funny. yeah....I
liked some of his other movies. Like Mr. Mom and such...
Oh well....let's leave the slime where it belongs, lol.

The Avengers
Okay - so if you're like those of us who didn't rush out and watch the movie in it's first week...have you seen it yet? Did you think it was worth seeing it on the big screen or had you wished you'd just waited for it to come out on DVD?
I was all set to not like it. I'd read some reviews that were not all that friendly to it, and I had heard a LOT of back story from my children that made me wary of the storyline.
Thankfully - it was better than all that.
Yes, it's still the whole bang bang, kill kill, yada yada - but it still had a story. I'm not sure I understood the crazy main villain, but ya know, I'm kind of dense sometimes.
The thought I had on the way home was isn't it interesting how we as humans focus on superheros. And yet, we are always trying to bring them down at the same time.
I've been re-reading a book by Brandon Sanderson (whom I'm thrilled to be able to say I've actually met once, lol) called Stealheart. It's kind of superheros on steroids and all the bad effects included. And then I watch this movie, where the superheros struggle to fight against their fears.
We are human. We were created to live in a world that Satan wants to control, and deal with life as it comes. There is darkness because there is evil. There is light because there is a Savior.
I thought it interesting how the 'witch' character said Tony Stark wouldn't stop till he made it right. That meant saving the world. He has what I guess people would call a Savior complex? But it made me compare the fictional superheros to our real life, amazing, eternal Savior. The only one who really can save the world, and bring us hope -- bring us light.
Jesus Christ.
And he has his own 'team'. They're not 'Avengers' - they are angels, and prophets and apostles. I mean, imagine a team with Captain Moroni! That would be amazing. And the stripling warriors...that would be a team to be proud of.
Just sayin'.

More for your smiles...
Greetings! So...Hope yesterday was a great day for you. Today is only a couple of things...
It's International Nurses Day - if you know a nurse (and we have a couple in the Vista building where they officiate out of, lol) give them a hug. They are amazing women (and some men) and do a difficult job. I tell ya, I couldn't do it. ;)
National Nutty Fudge Day - Like fudge? This is your day!! Especially with nuts! I personally like the kind with nuts better than without. Mmmm...
Limerick Day! so in honor of the day, here is my attempt:
There once was a teacher of children
Who loved to have animals visitin'
That was all fine and dandy
Till a bear stole the candy
and now the visitor list is limiting. ;)
Have a good one!!!

Monday, Monday... ;)
I hope you all had a marvelous weekend! It was a mix for me...but
ya know. ;) Staying up till 2 am Saturday night trying to get the
floor screwed down is for the younger generation...sigh.
;) Mother's Day was lovely though.
Today is a couple of things.
Eat What You Want Day! I think all of us like an excuse to eat what we want...personally, that was kind of what yesterday was for me. ;)
Hostess Cupcake Day. Well...anyone who likes to get their sugar fix in that fashion, there ya go!! Especially since they've come back to the stores. ;)
And one that's odd.... Root Canal appreciation day. UGH! Who would want to appreciate root canals?? I've had a few, and they're not like, a nightmare - though I wouldn't really want to celebrate it. Really?
Like I've mentioned before, I wonder who thinks up these things and how they become recognized!! I think I'm going to have to think up my own holiday to have celebrated. I think we ought to take a poll and see what we can up with. ;)
Anyway - have a great day!!

Happy Mother's Day!!
Just wanted to let everyone who is a mother know they are loved and appreciated, even if it's not by their offspring that made them mothers, lol. Because I know that's how I feel many times, I want to share a hug.
Mother's day is sometimes a day of angst for me, and father's day is the same for my husband. We see many people who we feel are better parents than we are, we hear accolades about how wonderful several people are, and we feel inadequate, less than perfect in every way, and wish we could go hide till the day is over. Sigh.
I'm sure there are other women like me out there (at least I'm hoping I'm not alone)...who are torn between wanting to feel special and loved and showered with attention and gifts from my children and wishing they would just behave and be nice to each other and the world. If my children were more perfect, then I would possibly feel more accomplished as a parent. Unfortunately, we cannot make their choices for them, so we have to let be and accept them for what they are and the lives they choose.
Dang it. ;)
That whole free choice thing, right?
Well...so take a deep breath, let it out, close your eyes and pretend there isn't another sould on the beach with you. Sink your toes into the warm sand, listen to the crash of the waves on the shore and the cry of the seaguls overhead and try to imagine the warmth of the sun on your skin. It's your day. Hopefully you'll get to do something you want to do. ;)
Remember you love your kids, right?
Sure you do! And they love you, no matter how they behave or what they are doing. YOU are their mom.
Good luck. ;)

Did You Wear Socks?
Hi everyone! It's FRIDAY!
We have some fun stuff today.
First off is No Socks Day! Did you wear socks? Personally, I skip them as often as possible, and so no, I'm not wearing mine. ;) Is that TMI? lol I think this is good though...it's closer to no shoes...is there a no shoes day? I'll have to look into that. I rarely wear shoes and so that would be my day!! ;) Drives my hubby nuts. Unfortunately, he has at least two children that are just like me.... (and this little clip art looks a LOT like my feet in the summer, lol)
It's also VE Day...so perhaps we should pause for a moment and reflect on this day in 1945 where WWII was officially over. It's a good day to celebrate...and I think it would do Europe and most of that continent to reflect on that day and that war, considering what's going on over there right now... sigh. It's a sad world, ya know? They need some hugs.
Along with that, It's Military Spouse Appreciation day! So if you know anyone who is a military spouse, they deserve a hand, a hug and an award. Being married in the military has got to be one of the hardest things. I have three nephews and a niece who are married and either in the military or married to a military spouse. It's a continual guessing game as to when they are going to be home, how long they're there, where they are going, where the family has to relocate, etc. Challenge and Change are the two constants in the life of a military family. They sacrifice a lot for us to be safe and free. THANKS!!!
And last...(definitely deserving of that rank)....it's Fintastic Friday - giving Sharks a Voice. Really?? Who thinks up these things?? Why would you give sharks a voice...they're the ones that are biting people. If they left us alone, I think we'd leave them alone, right? I mean, I don't know any reason someone would be hunting them down if they weren't known to attack swimmers. You probably aren't going to convince me that they are simply misunderstood and calm creatures. Finding Nemo attempts to do that, but they're still sharks...lol

Oh well..."one persons garbage is another persons potpourri", right? lol (okay....who said that and what movie was it in??)
Well, nuff said. Have a great day!!! ;)

After a Crazy Week...
Today is a bit more calm.
There are only two things today:
National Day of Reason and National Day of Prayer.
I find it interesting that they are on the same day...the two definitely go together. I hope all of you are able to enjoy reasoning with those around you and definitely keep a prayer in your hearts.
The calm isn't going to last too long for me, I have two showers this evening. One is a bridal shower and one is a baby shower. sigh. At the same time! Fortunately, they are only three houses away from each other, so we can drop into both and it won't be a big deal. Shopping for them yesterday was a trial though... Usually I'm excited and have all sorts of ideas. Not so yesterday. My daughter and I went shopping for 2 hours and finally had something to pull together. ugh.
I did find a nice new white skirt though. ;) There's always a bright side!
Have a good one.

feeling Hungover?
It's the day after - and I don't drink - but if you do,
you probably enjoyed yourself yesterday. Apparently a big part of Cinco
de Mayo in other parts of the land is the drinking, lol. We ended up having a
dinner party with my mother-in-law, and going home. No movie this
week...maybe next week. ;) It was fun, and she enjoyed it.
Today we have Ride Your Bike to School Day...which I guess most kids do that can anyway. My kids never really had bikes at the same time...and if they walked they were toooo distracted to make it to school or back home in a reasonable time, so I always took them. It was just simpler that way. ;) When we moved to our current home, we lived closer without busy streets and not all of them going to the same location, they walked. It was great!
I'ts No Homework Day too...which isn't fair. We don't have homework, so how are we supposed to celebrate this one?? Unless someone is taking classes right now...enjoy. ;)
my favorite - No Diet Day! For those of you who are continually 'on a diet' or 'dieting' here's a day for you! It's a cheat day. Don't think of the calories going in your mouth, just enjoy your taste buds for once. I gave up on 'dieting' many years ago. It's another 'D' word that we don't say in my house, lol. It's a lifestyle change and when I do it, everyone does it. ;)
National RM Recognition Day. Everyone who knows a nurse knows how dedicated they are and the hours they work. Only the ones that have been in the business for years are able to work the shifts they want and have more of a life. My sister used to work graveyard at the ER. Ugh. She never did get used to sleeping during the day. Before she died, she was working at a surgical center and loved it. ;) Hug a nurse! They deserve it.
It's also School Nurse Day - do we even have those anymore? I guess we have floaters that go to several schools and check up on things. That's got to be a hard job. 'Back in the day' as some of my co-workers like to say, they used to have an office in the school and you went to them for band aids and upset stomachs. Remember the part in The Greatest Christmas Pageant Ever where Imogene used to go to the school nurse and complain about itching and rashes to get out of class when everyone was getting weighed? (which I guess was something they used to do as well). Now the school secretary gets to handle all that.... oh joy.
Well...hope everyone had a great day yesterday and is looking forward to another lovely one today! Have a good one!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Everyone knows what day today is!!
time for a FIESTA! lol Any excuse to party, that's us. I have to laugh that it's a bigger celebration here in the US than it is in Mexico. My husband always jokes that it happened when the Titanic when down...(with the mayonnaise)...Anyway - we always have tacos and chips and listen to Mexican music or watch a themed movie. Tonight is going to be a little tame in comparison to our usual attempt because we don't have a kitchen to invite anyone over, and we're going to go see The Avengers instead. ;) (can't pass up $5 Tuesdays!)
Appropriately enough, it's also Totally Chipotle Day - which I'm not sure if Chipotle came up with that, or if it was a day before the restaurant - from what I find it's not even associated with the restaurant. It's all about the pepper...so I'm not really into spice (I'm a total gringo, even being raised in California) but for those of you that like it...rock out. ;)
It's also National Teacher Day...which I guess is why Teacher Appreciation week is this week. ;) Everyone thank your teachers - they're awesome. I don't think I could put up with 30 or so teenagers or kids for 6 hours...why do you think I sent mine to school instead of home schooled them??? I would have ended up in prison for murdering them...sigh. Poor teachers...
Revenge of the 5th - you knew that was coming, right? For May the 4th be with you?? Of course you did. And only those that are really nerds will be celebrating or doing anything with regards to that today... (not in my house!!)
So, hopefully everyone is excited to be alive and partying today. If nothing else you need to have a large taco salad for dinner and eat guacamole!! I know I will be. ;)

It's May and it's Monday!
Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend! It sure was nice
weather. ;) We are going to be in for an interesting week of
silliness. Today it starts off with:
Intergalactic Star Wars day...(May the 4th be with you...lol) like anyone else in the universe knows or cares about Star Wars. (I know, a real fan will hunt me down) "These are not the droids you're looking for..." sigh. Just because all my children are eagerly anticipating and arguing over the new one coming out...
International Firefighters day. Funny how I never think about other countries having firefighters. Makes sense, I guess they would be more used to putting out fires from stuff besides just someone burning down their house from turkey friers...right? They obviously don't have an Uncle Sy. ;)
Okay - International respect for chickens day? Really? What, respect them for their eggs and before we eat them...? ;) They are mean buggers! Have you ever owned any? I have lots of neighbors who own them...I think I'll respect my neighbors putting up with them. ;)
and last...
Petite and Proud Day! For those who are 'petite' (short) and proud of it!! Yeah! Reminds me of a song when I was a teenager "Short people have no reason, short people have..." lol. anyone remember that song? It would be totally politically incorrect now, and never would have found air time. ;) I have some neighbors who has a daughter that is SHORT and one time giving a talk in church pulled over the children's stool so they would have to raise the podium for her to speak. She said she's always wanted to do that. ;) I know I get frustrated when I can't reach things, and I'm not considered short...though I think my kids might disagree, lol.
Well, have a great day!! It's May, it's sunshiny, the flowers are blooming and the birds are singing!

It's May!
Greetings!! Can you believe it's finally May? I feel like it should be the end of May, but hey, it's good. I guess I could have grabbed my granddaughters and had them do a May pole dance, but that sounds too much like pole dancing, lol.
I just have a couple of tangents to go on...
First - who really cares about the NFL draft? Any of you? Really? I wish they'd just go one with their lives...just because in about 10 years none of them are going to be playing because they'll have too many concussions or have blown out a knee...(but then, I don't have an opinion, right?)
And have you heard of the site called How Old Do I Look? I posted a photo of me with my daughters, and it was pretty close to mine, but totally messed up on my youngest, lol. What can I say, it's a robot, right? ;)
And does anyone else want a Tesla Battery?? I think it's so cool that they've come up with a way to use batteries with solar power for homes. But that's me...I'm kind of a solar nut. I'd have my home totally solar if we could afford it. ;)
Have I mentioned we're remodeling our kitchen right now? It was kind of forced...our dishwasher connection to the hot water had a slow leak and the floor was expanding...ugh. So, we've pulled the cabinets up that were around the dishwasher, and we'll have to fix/replace them. Then we pulled up the vinyl, and had to pull up all three layers down to the subfloor. SIGH.
we got the OSB wood down, and it was VERY handy that we didn't have to buy it. ;) and some of the hardibacker...
Now we're having to work on wiring, because, the wiring in the kitchen is older than our children...and wasn't done entirely correctly. REALLY? What's up with that???
Should I mention that we started this little project the weekend of Easter? Ya. We're excited. NOT.
Remodeling is definitely for the younger crowd. When we were 20 something, this was no big deal. Now that we're on the other side of 50, it's not so much fun. And both of us work full time, so ya know how that goes...
sigh.
And the kidlets (who are ALL adults) are only somewhat helpful...for some reason we have a hard time getting them to volunteer. ;)
Well...just wanted to get that off my chest and share the photos. Hope you have a great weekend, it's supposed to be marvelous! ;)
