Best two weeks...

War Room

Hi everyone - I haven't been as active posting during this time because I've been home with family and when my hubby and I are able to spend time together, I don't get a lot of extra curricular writing done, lol.

We've been having a wonderful holiday season at our house, and I hope you have too.
Next week it's back to work and you'll be seeing more of me then.

What I did want to say was we bought a new movie for Christmas (we usually do one or two, lol) and it was War Room.
If you have seen Courageous or Facing the Giants, you'll love this one.  If you haven't seen any of the previous ones, but you like CLEAN movies, you've got to watch it!  It is so good!  We were so glad we got it.

No one is paying me to say it.  If you've read my blog, you know I let you know if I love a movie or hate it, so there you go.  We also saw Star Wars VII over this break and I like some of the characters, but think the story is lame, the ending is really lame and what's the deal with Mark Hamill's character??  UGH.  Oh well...then we went home and watched the originals.  Still can't be beat.

Have a great New Years!!!

One Week to go...

before Christmas!!  Can you believe it?  The past four months have gone so fast.  It's crazy.  So...just help you have a fun Christmas attitude, today is...(wait for it...lol)

National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day!!!
and just to be even sillier, there's a family that does a dance (they've decided to record it...go figure) and they wear their ugly sweaters to dance.  Thought you'd get a kick out of it.   (sorry it's a Justin Beiber song...)

So, enjoy the day, week and the season!

Only 8 days left...

Hi everyone - It's Thursday and we're all so excited, right?

So, there wasn't a lot of fun stuff, so I'll sift through and see if there's anything worth writing about, lol.

Free Shipping Day -
for all of you who are still doing shipping for Christmas, this is a big day to do it. Would be a good day for all those last minute gifts  (which is most of mine, lol)  Be sure it's a retailer that participates, lol.

National Re-gifting Day - I think this is kind of strange...you haven't got the gifts yet, how can you regift them?  But of course, perhaps they're meaning the gifts you got last year and want to give away this year...isn't that what White elephant presents are all about?  lol

Wright Brothers Day - I thought this would be good, I didn't know they had a day dedicated to them.  Think of where we would be today if they hadn't been determined and creative with their vision.  Amazing.

Well, everyone have a terrific day!!  Only 8 days till Christmas!!

Chocolate covered...

Good morning everyone!  I hope your commute was better than Monday, lol.  Yesterday was nice. This is the kind of snow I could have all month, and hope it doesn't drive you all crazy.
Today there is just one thing to say...
National Chocolate-covered Anything Day!!  I like that one...just as long as it's covered in chocolate, it's all good.
Personally I like dark chocolate...and no coconut, thanks.   My daughter makes this Gnosh stuff and she did a tray of mini turtles covered with dark chocolate gnosh.  It was awesome.
What's your favorite thing?

SNOW!!! Finally. lol

Well...most of you are probably not happy, but I'm excited.  I LOVE looking at the powder and watching it sparkle in the sunlight...I also love watching it float down.  It's like those Kinkade painting applets where the snow fell over a country scene...  I would insert one, but they all take java and don't run well on the average computer...ugh.
Anyway - and we really need it for water, so I'm hoping we keep getting it.  We probably won't, (that's the pessimistic side of me talking...) but we can hope.

So...Today is Cat Herders Day!  I think it's great that they have a day for that.  Have you ever seen the video of that?  If you haven't, you're in for a good laugh.  Anyone that has had, knows, or sees cats, will totally get a laugh out of this.

Hope you have a great day and enjoy the snow!!

Gingerbread!

So, hopefully all of you are having a wonderful weekend.  :)  There wasn't anything interesting about Friday except we had a party we went to...one of our favorites that we get to help decorate the tables for.  I roped my daughter into helping with the centerpieces.  What else are daughters for, right?  lol
So, today are some fun things to do with little kids, grandkids, or anyone who likes to enjoy themselves.  :)

Gingerbread Decorating Day and, conveniently enough - Gingerbread House Day.
If you are into that and haven't made one yet, the kits are pretty easy.  My daughter did four little houses the night we made candy (it was an OLD kit...the candy was hard!) and my son and his wife did one larger house that turned out cute.  I'm not sure anyone does them from scratch anymore...though I think it would be fun.

National Cocoa Day - which I think goes well with gingerbread house day, don't you?

In case you want something really silly, it's National Lost Day tomorrowI'm not sure what that's about, but you can look it up.  I'm wondering if they are talking about the show...

and last -- Poinsettia DayMy hubby gets one every year for my mother-in-law, and she manages to make them survive for several months.  I think she even had one still alive by mother's day, but don't ask me for proof, lol. Did you know the majority of Poinsettias are grown in Spain? At least that was what I was told by my sister-in-law who brought me back a lovely porcelain poinsettia from there...but in the Brownielocks site, the link says that they are prominent in Mexico and were named for the ambassador there...so go figure.  You can research it further if you want, lol.

I get to go see Babes in Toyland at the Centerville theater tonight, so that's a fun date night with hubby.  :)

Tomorrow is a concert at the Kaysville Crestwood Stake center called An Evening of Music, and it's awesome if you have a free Sunday evening.  Come listen!!

I survived!!

Well...it's Wednesday, and it's been a great day.  Yesterday was a little different... my son had mixed up a remedy for a sore throat and left it on the counter.  I thought it was water and took a swallow to take my pill, and about died!!!  ARGH.

Anyone out there use hydrogen peroxide to help sore throats?  I don't.  Have. Never. And. Will. Never.  ugh.  I'm just glad that I only had one swallow!  I couldn't believe how bad it tasted...I asked my hubby to smell it, and he couldn't smell anything, so we woke all the kids up for prayer and discovered that my son had mixed up some hydrogen peroxide and water to gargle with.

ARGH!

It tasted awful and burned going down, and then my stomach...I REALLY wished I could throw up, but I'm not the throwing up type, so, I just suffer.  I went back to bed and when I woke up later, it felt better, but my stomach was still sick.  :(

It wasn't until about 6pm that I ate some pita chips and it settled down.  I'd drank clay water (don't judge me) and wished I'd thought of taking my sons charcoal tablets.  SIGH.

Anyway - so I feel so much better today!!  My co-workers were all amazed I'm still alive, lol.  My hubby had done a quick look up on the internet and found out that a very small dose of the hydrogen peroxide wasn't life threatening, and I didn't need to go to the emergency room.  It was not fun because of the bubbles that were created in my stomach.  bizarre.

So...I survived, and now life is much better.  See, I got to play with two of my little granddaughters tonight for two hours with my husband, and we had sooo much fun.  :)  We don't get to see them as often as we'd like anymore.  We're already planning a grandparent sleepover the week of Christmas.  :)  AWESOME!!

Now, there was one item that was kind of fun today - Weary Willie the Clown day.  If you've never heard of him, you're not alone.  I think my father-in-law loved him...I remember seeing photos of him around.  He is pretty sad...

And last, I have some thoughts I wanted to share as well about Christmas.

We were watching Santa Claus 2 last night, and there is a point where they were talking about Tim Allen not being able to be Santa Claus anymore...and how Christmas would end.

I can't watch these so blithely anymore...it comes across that they are so not real.  It's all fiction.  You see, Santa Claus is a fun fantasy that society has propagated, but it's not real.  The only real thing about Christmas is the fact that Christ was born.  He wasn't even born on Christmas day as we know it, but that's not as important as who He is.  And you can take away the trees, the presents and all the decorations, but it will still be Christmas.  There will always be a Christmas, even if it's only in our hearts.

In fact, the best way to celebrate Christmas is in our hearts.  It's all about love and family and friends and the gospel of Jesus Christ.  He was born to save us, to give us hope and bring us home.  What better friend could you possibly have?

In case you haven't seen the new Christmas website that the LDS church has put out, here's a quick video that shows how much we need a Savior.

Enjoy.  :)

Happy Monday!

We had a busy weekend...sigh.  That's how December invariably ends up, ya know?  Is it like that for you??  Did you catch the Devotional last night?  We didn't...we were in the middle of the traffic of it though...and hope to watch it tonight.  :)

Just a couple of things today

National Pearl Harbor Day of Remembrance - This is a day we always watch Tora Tora Tora, or Pearl Harbor.  Although, I think watching Battleship works too because of the last half hour of it where they use the old battleship and the crew from WWII.  It's awesome... here's a little clip you can watch during lunch... (and just so ya know, there is language - sorry.  We have a language blocker on our TV, so we don't hear it when we're watching it, I keep forgetting that there is lots of cussing...)
https://youtu.be/e5maBLlFo7s

But anyway, we'll be making candy tonight, so I don't know that we'll get the movie in too.  sigh.

International Civil Aviation Day -
I would think this is similar to the Civil Air Patrol day, but perhaps not.  Anyone out there fly?

And last...for those of you who go to the fair or any carnival JUST for the cotton candy...today is National Cotton Candy Day - so now that you can buy it in bags, go find yourself some at the store and enjoy.   Personally, I have a hard time eating sugar and air with no real flavor, lol.
Have a great day!!

It's Friday! and only three left

Till Christmas, can you believe it??  UGH.  Are we all ready?  Can I get a nay?  I'm not!!!  lol
I hope you've had a great week and are looking forward to fun this weekend.

Well, we only have a couple of items of fun today.

Faux Fur Friday - I guess this is to encourage those who like fur to not harm the little animals and use fake fur.  Personally, I like fur, but I wouldn't own a large fur coat.  I have a coat with a nice fake fur hood and it suits me just fine.

National Cookie Day - good day!!  I think this is Cookie Monsters favorite day of the year, but ya know.  Is that politically correct anymore?  I understand there isn't a cookie monster, now it's a broccoli monster or something like that.  What has the world come to??  So, everyone make cookies today, it's your civic duty!  lol  My favorite is dark chocolate chip of course...  what's yours?

National Dice Day -
a game anyone?  I think everyone has played with dice sometime in their life, especially if they've played a board game or Yatsee.  From what I've been able to find, they've been around for centuries.  They even found an ancient Bacamon set from like 5000 years ago with dice.  I think I'm glad they don't make it from bones anymore...that just seems a little morbid, though I guess it wasn't human bones.   I think this would be a conversation for Halloween, don't you?  Anyway - make cookies and play games.  You'll be accomplishing 2 things on the wellness chart!

National Salesperson Day -
I remember talking about this last year.  Those poor long suffering salesclerks that have to help you find the perfect gift, put up with whining complaining customers and children, and work extended hours while everyone shops for the holidays.  However...the practical side of me must point out that it is their job...so ya know.  We can still be nice to them and call them by name, right? I found a great Studio C skit  (or rather, my hubby did. :)  that highlights an annoying clerk...but shows how they do so much at that check out, lol

anyway...Have a good one!

It's Wednesday!! Hump day number 1...

And wow...I've had something every day this week.  Hope it's not driving you all crazy...

So...today we have:
International Day for the Abolition of Slavery Day - It seems a little redundant, but I guess that's how they wanted to have it worded.  I guess it's to distinguish it from other locales...but it's sad to think that there is still slavery going on around the world.  We are free so we just figure everyone else is.  I'm not sure what we can do about it, possibly donate funds or time?  Something to think about.  There's been several signs in my neighborhoods talking about human trafficking.  I believe it's the same thing.  It's all wrong.

National Mutt Day - National mutt day recognizes that there are more mutts than pure breeds out there and they are loved too!!  We have a couple of them at our house, and while I'm not really a dog person, they're still cute.
This one looks just like my daughters dog.  Isn't he cute?

It's apparently National Fritters Day - though it's not Friday, when they're half price at Kent's Market in Clearfield, Bowmans still makes a mean fritter...

Safety Razor Day - I guess this is to honor the fact that men used to take their lives in their hands every time they shaved...or had the barber shave them.

Have you seen those old straight razors??  Even the so called safety razors that my dad used to use back in 1960's...that I sliced my leg on because I'd seen too many commercials with women shaving their legs in the tub, lol.  Nasty!!  Makes me wonder why beards weren't more of the fashion longer...  I'm glad I don't have to scrape the hair off my face everyday.

Special Education Day  I didn't even know we had one!  I think that means the Special Education department at my work should have an open house and serve cookies and hot chocolate...lol.  Oh well...it's a thought.

Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting - well, if you're into anything New York, you'll like this ceremony.  I like the Home Alone movies, and the second one takes place in New York.  That is some tree...  We have lots of cool lighting ceremonies here though.  Did anyone go to the lights at Temple Square?  We didn't brave the cold, lol.  Did you realize they have been lighting them now for 50 years this year?  The Deseret News has a fun set of photos from then till now.  We went once when our girls were little babies...and it was sooo cold!!  We got stuck in the middle by the tabernacle, there were so many people!  Then we went with our younger kids and a friend a couple of years ago...and there was hardly anyone.  crazy.

Special Kids Day -  as if having a special ed day wasn't enough, we even get a day that celebrates special kids.  What is kind of fun about this site is that it's promoting playgrounds that are accessible to all children, regardless if wheelchair bound or not. Kind of cool.

Hope you have an awesome day!!

And so it begins...

So, today is the 1st day of December...and we begin the official countdown!
Can you believe how fast the past three months have gone??  I can't.  I thought October went fast and then November was gone before I knew it. I just hope December goes a little slower...I want to enjoy every day of it.
Today we have a couple of fun things, and a couple of serious things, so lets see how they go...

Antartica Day - For those of you who want to support the south pole, I guess. Actually, I guess a treaty was passed to make sure the area was for science and conservation.  I thought it was becoming a popular tourist attraction...

Civil Air Patrol Day - I'm kind of excited to know that there is a civil air patrol day.  My father-in-law was a big participant in that, and went TDY all the time.  He went several places over seas, and brought back souvenirs for his family.  We have this large wood carved thing from the Philippines - looks like something about the pioneers...lol.  But it makes me think of him.  He passed away about 12 years ago.  sigh.

Rosa Parks Day - I think we all recognize the name, and it's kind of fun that she get's her own day.  The world has changed a great deal since then, though many think it hasn't changed at all. It's all a person's point of view...

Giving Tuesday - I thought this was kind of fun...apparently it always follows Cyber Monday.  I like it...it encourages goodness, right?  I have to recommend a video though...Studio C did a spoof that talked about cyber Monday...

though giving Tuesday is better... 😊

Hope you all have a great day!  Only 24 days left...and I tell you, this Grandma hasn't even started yet....sigh.

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
