Oh the Things You'll See...

Don't you love Dr Seuss?  Most of the schools I go into have quotes from him all over...and almost all of them have that quote, "oh the things you'll see".  Isn't that that truth.  No matter where you go, or what you do in life, you'll see amazing things.  Like this morning on the way to work, there were storm clouds moving across the tops of the mountains, so fast!  It was like watching time lapse photography.  And then when I got to work, there was another band of clouds moving toward the mountains, and meeting up with that other batch.  I kept thinking there was going to be this big clash, but it didn't happen.  dang.  ;)   But the sun was peaking through the canyon, and the clouds were red right along the edge...then farther out the clouds were a softer red where the sun was touching them.  It was the coolest thing.  I wish I'd been able to take a photo of it, but my phone wouldn't have done it justice.  ;)
So, today is a boatload of stuff to celebrate or commemorate, whichever you think it works, that's why the Seuss quote.  ;)

Mayflower Day-  For those of you whose ancestors came over on the Mayflower, this is your day!  You go celebrate that, people!  That’s a big thing.  Most of us came over later…on some type of boat, lol.  But I guess this is the day the Mayflower left England to come to America.  Can you imagine how scary a trip that must have been?

National Tattoo Story Day
I think this is for those people who wake up one morning and realize they have a strange tattoo on their arm that they don’t remember having ahead of time, lol.  Although, I know lots of people tend to get them to remind them of something.  My brother has several on his arms that he got when he was in the Air Force.  They are mostly faded to just black and gray now, which he reminds my sons every time they admire them, lol.  My son-in-law got a tattoo started when he was in prison that represented him and my daughter…sigh.  That is probably TMI…
Moving on…

National Guacamole Day!  Best day ever,
(besides chocolate) right?  We actually had guacamole last night, but if you can, make some today, there’s nothing like fresh guacamole!!  ;)  especially with chips…and salsa…and …

Play-doh DayHasbro has picked September 16th to be the first ever play-doh day.  Kind of fun.  Apparently there are lots of random info about play-doh, like four colors started it all: red, blue, yellow, and white. Now you can get PLAY-DOH in tons more colors!  We bought some last year for my granddaughters and they even had black…which she loves.  Sigh.

Stay Away From Seattle Day – go figure.  Apparently this was started 2008 in response to an influx of business and growth and development that the homebodies were NOT excited about. I’m not sure it’s continues to be celebrated, but I thought it was a silly fact.  ;)  Personally I know how they feel…Kaysville/Layton is SOOO not what it was 30 years ago…sigh.  But ya know, if you build it, they will come.  And keep coming, lol.

And last for the list…Stepfamily Day.  This is a big one, I think.  There are many combined families in my neighborhood, where couples have married that have children from previous marriages.  For the most part, they seem to work things out, and I think it’s amazing.  For those of you living in those circumstances, go home tonight and celebrate being just a family!  You’re awesome.  ;)

Well, that’s it for today.  Hope you all have an awesome day and enjoy the fall weather.  I’m just hoping it clears up by the 28th  ;)  (joke of the day – why do people get married outside?  To help the rain know when to fall…sigh.)

Ah the memories...lol

Today is 8 Track Tape day.  For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about...man, you missed out.

Those were the days...you listened to your song, and right in the middle it would switch tracks.  ARGH!  lol  It drove me nuts!  But hey, we didn't have a lot of choices back then.  I mean...this was the early 80's, okay?  Dinosaurs still roamed the earth (well, according to my children, lol)
and just to round things out...

today is also Felt Hat Day.  ;)   why they would want a day to honor them, who knows.  I mean, they have a day for almost anything, so why not?  My son is wanting fedoras for his wedding...think he'd go for felt hats? lol  (it's not him that would have to say yes, right?)

Well...have a good one!  And enjoy the awesome rain!  ;)

Happy Monday!!

Happy Monday everyone!

Guess what?  It's National Chicken month!!  You’d think it was sponsored by Chick-fil-a, lol, but I don’t think so.  It’s Eat Chicken month too, so I’m telling ya, chicken, chicken, chicken!  ;)

And today is National Kreme Filled Doughnut day…which you’d think would be sponsored by Krispy Kremes, but isn’t even mentioned on their site – so go figure.  The links provided by brownielocks only went to Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Doughnuts…so they weren’t very exciting.  We have lots of doughnut options hereabouts, so just pick your favorite spot and enjoy!  ;)  Any excuse for a doughnut, right?

Anyway – Hope you all have an awesome day!  ;)

Always Remember....Never Forget

At this time 14 years ago I was glued to the TV watching the most horrific thing I had ever seen in my adult life.
The attack of the twin towers.
My husband called me from work and said to turn on the tv.  My older kids had just gone to school and so I turned it on just before the second plane flew into the building.
I sat down, pulled my youngest son close and stared in shock and dismay for most of the day.
The biggest thing I remember about the days that followed was the silence of the skies.  The thankfulness for the fighter jet planes that flew in their scheduled rounds from Hill AFB.  The fear that another attack would happen.
My family has done their best to always remember.  We aren't really good at getting out to the fire stations and police stations to show gratitude, but we always do something to remember.  Usually it's watching 9/11, the documentary that the two french brothers were filming at the time of the attack.  It's awesome.  Talk about reality tv...  Or 9/11 the movie with Nicholas Cage.  It's not the best, but it's still good.  We talk about that day.  We remember together.
I hope that on this day of infamy, you and yours remember how precious our freedoms are, and how thin the thread is that holds them.  Tell them you love them...and never forget.

Happy Wednesday!

It’s Wednesday…the middle of the week already.  Boy, and we’re supposed to get rain…what else can be great about this day???  Anyway – there hasn’t been much to be silly about before today, and so here’s a quick list of stuff to celebrate should you be in the mood.  ;)

Today is National Dog Day… so, if you happen to have one, like them or have a photo of one, good for you.  ;)  Personally, I’ve discovered I like them a little more than I thought, but I’m still not a dog person.  Give me a cat anytime, lol.  Now If I could just get rid of the three that are in my house…anyone want a fox hound???

National Toilet Paper Day!  Yeah!!  I don’t know about you, but Toilet Paper is the best invention EVER!!  I shudder to think of life without it…  UGH…

Tug of War day…I guess if you like to have tug of wars, this is your day.  I think my daughter does this with her dog…lol

Women’s Equality Day.  Well…here’s to all us working women who are showing our equality.  Personally, I thought this was something we celebrated every day, but ya know.  I like being equal to my hubby in telling my kids what to do…right?  ;)

So I hope everyone has a great day!

Ugh.

Okay - so anyone familiar with pink eye?  It's a dreaded childhood (usually) bacteria that makes your eyes red and goopy and is extremely contagious.  When you work in a school district, they frown on you coming to work if you happen to have such a thing.
I woke up this morning with goopy eyes and couldn't believe it.  I mean, I was in schools yesterday, but I didn't touch any of the children...sigh.
Well - so the doctor says it's probably not since my eyes aren't stuck together and crusty.  But they gave me drops anyway, since it could still be...
got to love viruses.  NOT.
so...I got my hubby home with  me, I'm coughing in a chair, and the kids are doing dishes and otherwise being somewhat helpful.  I guess it's a good day!  ;)
I'm just glad I have sick leave, lol.
Hope your day is better!!
And just to share...this is the photo I got second place at the county fair with.

Only got 3rd with my painting...should I give up the brush? lol

It's Monday and...

The first day of school for our area...
hundreds of parents taking their kids to the first day of kindergarten, etc.  I don't remember it being such a big thing when I was a kid, but then, I don't really remember being in kindergarten.  ;)

Needless to say, we didn't take our kids to school...we took photos of them and sent them on their way.

Hm...

So - it's also a couple of fun wacky holidays.  Today is
National Waffle Iron day.
So - if you like waffles, it's a good day to pull out the waffle iron and cook up some.  We made Zucchini waffles...and they were pretty good.  I'll be writing them up on my cooking blog.  ;)

It's also William Wilberforce Day.
I have to admit, before the movie Amazing Grace came out, I'd never heard of the man.  Great movie, nice story.  Not entirely true to life, but it's good...  ;)  Hm...we should have watched that!

It's also Knife day, but I don't know what that's about - I just figured I'd mention it in honor of my brother.  He makes knives as a hobby, and he's awesome at it.
Here's a letter opener he made for my daughter...it's dang sharp and we keep it so that no one accidentally sticks themselves with it...lol

Hope everyone had a great weekend...I can't believe it's toward the end of August already.

Our son just announced that they want to change their wedding date to the end of September...so we're in for a bit of stress...they want to hold it in our back yard, like our daughter did...sigh...
Wish us luck!!

Have a good one...  ;)

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
