makes me think of that old song... It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring... It's wet, it's snowing, the weather man is crowing, lol. (has it ever hit you that the song - the old man is snoring - is actually kind of creepy?? He went to bed and bumped his head and couldn't get up in the morning?? one of my kids said that means he died, right?? I'm hoping that because he's snoring he's just got a concussion!!! some of these songs are pretty scarey, like ring around the posy...sigh)
Sorry for that tangent... lol
Hope you are enjoying the weather as much as I am. If I didn't have to drive around in it, it would be perfect, but it's not really sticking to the roads anyway, so ya know.
There's nothing really big to tell you about today, other than it's National Croissant day!! The first time I heard about them I thought - what's the big deal? And then when I had one as an adult, I was totally smitten. My favorite thing is to have them with hot chocolate and dip them. Then my daughter started working for Kneaders...which as most of you will know, has quite the bakery. Oh. My. She brought home these twice baked almond filled things that were absolute heaven!! (that's one of the things I miss about her not working there anymore, lol - when she'd bring home leftover stuff from the bakery!!) That's now my favorite type. I have yet to try making them...there are simply tooo many layers full of butter and I don't think I can stomach knowing how much butter is actually in one, lol. My hubby loves them with chicken salad. What is your favorite type and how do you like to eat them? Whichever way you like - enjoy one today! :)
I'm a grandma, wife, mother, crazy writer, spaz artist and face painter who is a disciple of Christ, loves to cook and read and wishes there were more hours in the day...oh and dark chocolate lover!

Happy Bubble Wrap Day!!
You know, if there were ever a product invented that brought simple joy, bubble wrap was it. Don't you think? I have to laugh...it's a little slow on stuff to look for in the world when people are celebrating bubble wrap,
right?? But it is fun... Here's a sort of scene where Mr.
Magorium is dancing on bubble wrap. It's a fun scene in the movie,
though this isn't the best version.
So
- hope you all have a wonderful Monday! It's going to be a great week
when it starts off with bubble wrap and chocolate cake! 🙂
Don't you love bubble wrap? I know my grand kids love it. Who can resist popping it??? It always brings a smile to your face!
But, lest your stomach felt left out... it's also National Chocolate Cake Day! I love this scene in Julie and Julia... totally shows how we love our chocolate!!! 🙂
got to love this woman's art... she has such imagery. LOL

Tree of Life...
I wanted to share a thought I had this week...
I don't know if this bothered anyone else, but something that bugged me when reading about the vision of the tree of life was the description of those traveling along the path to the tree. There were basically three groups. The second group 'grasped' onto the rod...got to the tree and then fell away. The last group held tight to the rod and did not fall away.
I didn't like the idea that the graspers fell away...and and have been thinking about it alot. Grasping seemed like a tightly held thing... weren't you holding tight if you were grasping??
But yet, it finally came to me, that the difference was faith and determination. Grasping at straws...grasping at anything, indicates a sort of desperation, not a decisive action. Holding fast to the rod shows true faith and hope and determination to follow the Lord and obey his commandments. Finally seeing that picture and understanding that principle has been big for me.
The Book of Mormon is amazing - The Lord truly loves us.
Happy National Pie Day!
Not only is it Thursday (which this week has been soooo strange all week, let me tell you) but it's National Pie Day!
And we're not talking the type of pie we go on about in March...we're talking the good pastry crust stuff that we eat at Thanksgiving with abandon.
What's your favorite kind of pie? We like pumpkin around here...and Banana cream (which is the photo) and key lime (YUM) and chocolate pecan... Although I think my kids would probably eat any kind of pie short of mincemeat. I like mincemeat...but most people don't anymore. (I had to laugh after thanksgiving our local store had like 10 bottles of mincemeat on the clearance shelf. I was tempted...) Did you know that there was an actual National Pie Council?? I guess they want to forever preserve the great American tradition of pies.. lol Well, keep up the good work, right?
(Photo from Saving Room for Desert)
Well.. that's all that's worth mentioning for the day. Hope you have a great one! :)

Happy Tuesday and chowder...
Hi everyone! Yes, I'm back. I could have taken the time to write something yesterday, but I wasn't feeling good and my hubby and I ended up not doing a single thing that was productive... okay, well, we did go to Sam's Club and grab groceries so we had food... lol. Hope you had a great long weekend. We ended it with watching the first two Harry Potter movies instead of something more appropriate - though there were some lessons to be learned about prejudice in them...
Well... today there isn't a lot to mention, and one thing that relates to food...
First up, it's International Sweatpants Day - which I think should be celebrated on a work level, don't you?? We would all be comfy at work. 🙂 To think there was a day when sweatpants were only used for working out. I use mine for painting in. Do you have sweatpants? Some people don't even have them anymore - they have yoga pants.
the last thing to mention is National New England Clam Chowder day. (this photo is from Taste of Home)
This is an important distinction because there are a couple of different clam chowders out there, and there is a big difference between the New England and the Manhattan version - let alone whatever else version you've heard of. Personally I don't like the tomato based one, so I'm glad it's the New England version. And...as my hubby isn't a fan of the fishy clam taste, I'm thinking I'll try the Salmon version someone posted. He likes salmon (for the most part) so, this might work better. Some chowder, some sourdough bread... Yum!!
Well... have a great rest of your day.
Be glad you don't live in Newfoundland - they got heavy snow in ONE day on the 17th. Here's a video clip of it for you...

It's Friday! And it's snowing...
Wish I were at home snuggled in bed! but, ya know... it's one of those working things and since I'm trying to be an adult...we go with it. :) And tadah!! It's day 5 - I made a post every day this week! And if you're reading this, and have read them every day... you should get a prize, but I'm not very organized and the thought just occurred to me. Hmm... So - if you make a comment below and mention that you have read my blog every day this week, I'll give you a prize! I'm not sure what that prize will be...most likely a print of one of my paintings or a discount on buying one at a booth... You could mention what you'd want. :)
there was only one thing I thought worth mentioning today...
It's Cable Car Day! Who doesn't love cable cars?? Have you ever ridden on one? I've been on one in San Fransisco, and they're kind of fun. My favorite is a scene in a couple of movies...
first is one of my favorite movies of all time... Yours Mine and Ours the original with Lucille Ball.
The second is another favorite - my hubbies second all time favorite (first is the Peanuts movie of course...lol) George of the Jungle. I can't find a clip with just the cable car, or the shot of him sitting on the roof, but here's part of it... and of course, all this stuff is good, lol.
And just to be silly... another fun movie...
One of my favorite with George Clooney.
and lastly... one of my favorite scenes from Sister Act:
Have a great day!!

Surprise - I did it!! day 4...
Well...amazingly enough, here we are with day four this week. Don't get too used to it, I don't know that I'll be able to keep this up over the weekend, lol. Hope you were able to enjoy a bagel yesterday! I had full intentions on making some of that recipe I shared, but it didn't happen. sigh.
Today has a couple of fun things...
first is Appreciate A Dragon Day - personally I love dragons. When I was a teenager I discovered the Dragonriders of Pern series and I was hooked.
What an amazing imaginative animal! I think they ought to try a live action version of them... But anyway, there is another version - How to Train Your Dragon. I never read the book, (my daughter says it's not quite like the movies, but it's okay) but the movies are way fun. I like how they've done the last one - but this clip is from the second one.
Fig Newton Day - these are one of my hubbies favorite snack/treats.
He's loved Fig Newtons forever, and I grew up with them. I like them and will eat one or two, but he really likes them and we usually have to get a pkg when going on a road trip. We used to get red licorice too, but that's kind of gone the way of the dodo as it's tooo much sugar for us old people now... :)
National Quinoa Day - I like quinoa, I really do. But I don't see the big draw. It has so many calories for a serving. It's supposed to be full of protein and be really good for you...but I have a hard time feeling full after one serving. I like to mix it with other grains, like brown rice/wild rice and it goes farther. What's your favorite version or way of cooking it?
and last...International Hot and Spicy Food day - my daughters favorite day, lol. She puts hot sauce on almost everything. Of course, that's when she's not dipping everything in ranch dressing... where did I go wrong?? I'm not sure she's my daughter....
So - hope you have a great day! It's Thursday...that means one more day till the weekend. The teachers are counting the hours because no students tomorrow and they get the whole day to prep. Most of us are thinking of three day weekends... life is good.

Bagels and Day three....
wow...it's almost like a challenge now. Can I post tomorrow and keep it going? I'm not sure, lol. We'll see if I can rise to the challenge and go forth, right??
Well, had to mention that today is National Bagel Day!! One of my favorite things to eat... I specifically like Einsteins bagels, but almost any fresh bagel will do in a pinch. Cream cheese is the shmear of choice, lol. Did you know that Shmear is actually a Jewish thing?? I read about it yesterday when I was reading about the deli's. Interesting.
Anyway... Have I ever mentioned how I had never had cream cheese until I was a teenager and someone had made a layered jello salad with cream cheese in it?? I was SOO amazed and wondered where it had been all my life. I think cream cheese is one of the best inventions EVER. (with regards to food... lol) reminded me of the story my hubby told about sour cream... Took a while for it to come to Utah from California as a condiment of choice with hispanic foods... and his grandmother wanted to make them something and needed sour cream. The store was very insulted that she was hoping to find 'sour' cream. All their cream was fresh!! :) My how things change...
And...it's also strawberry ice cream day. Some of us are a little less excited by that, but there ya go. If you top it with dark chocolate, I'd be all for it...
Oh well... Hope you have a great day. It's Wednesday and you've made it half way through the week...and it's all good from here on, right?? Yes!!
