Happy Celebration of Candy and all things dress up!

yes, in other words, happy Halloween to all of you who like to collect free candy and dress up to pretend to be something other than you are... lol.  Hey, I like to dress up too, so no judging going on here!!

This is one of the days that I love working for a school district - I get to see some sooo cute costumes!  And the teachers get to dress up as well.  I should say it as 'get' to  because some of them would rather not.

My grandchildren got dressed up this morning to go to school, and I snapped a photo before they left because I knew I wasn't going to make it to the parade.  I'm going to have to put more thought into it next year!!  but aren't they cute??  sorry it's blurry...blame the photographer who was just barely awake and crappy lighting, lol.

the little unicorn on the left had her bday yesterday - she's a big 6 years old.  The Cat is 9 and the little dragon is 3 as of two days ago.  I can't believe how their growing up!

Books For Treats Day - This is an idea that started ten years ago, and it's kind of cool.  The idea of giving kids books instead of candy is awesome.  I know lots of kids aren't thrilled with the idea of not getting candy, but they get enough of it from other sources anyway.  So - if you have lots of kids books and no grandkids, why not give them out instead of candy??  We don't get trick or treaters at our house, we live on too rural of a street and the houses are too far apart.  But - it's a great idea!!

Halloween or All Hallows Eve - everyone knows what today is in the United States.  Did you know that this holiday is growing to be the number one for spending - second only to Christmas??  Crazy.  It's the costumes and stuff.  Remember when we were growing up and costumes were whatever you could throw together?  I didn't know anyone that bought costumes.  Or, if they did, they were cheapy plastic stuff.  Or- their mom was a seamstress that loved to sew fancy stuff.  usually it was simple stuff with makeup, witch hats, etc.  There's some pretty fancy stuff out there now...  Note photo above...  lol  there are no less than seven kidos at the school I'm at this morning with the air filled costumes that look like dinosaurs or a unicorn.  I guess that would keep you warm!!

National Caramel Apple Day - It's also national candy apple day too, depending on which site you refer to.  Personally, I like caramel apples better than candy apples.  My son has bought them on two different nights and cut them to share.   He's pretty generous!!

National Doorbell Day - in honor of the workout the doorbell will get tonight, I guess.  Not our doorbell!  Do people ring yours or knock on the door?  And talking of knocking...

It's also National Knock-Knock Jokes Day.  I still think my favorite is from the movie Home.

National Magic Day - and of course, magic goes with halloween, right?  My favorite spells/magic people are from Hocus Pocus... I guess Harry Potter is good too, but Hocus Pocus is more fun.  :)

Well, since the world series ended last night (Wasn't that AWESOME?? The Nationals WON!!) what's the plan for viewing tonight?  Are you the kind to watch scary movies for halloween?  I used to make my kids put all the leftover halloween candy into a bowl and then we'd all munch and watch some scary movie.  If there was any left, it got tossed.  I hated having pieces of candy left around the house to attract ants and mice and go stale, etc.  They seemed to like the tradition!  My autistic son keeps wanting to do the same thing.  We reminded him this year that we don't have a big bowl of candy because they don't go trick or treating, we don't get trick or treaters and so the bowl of candy is pretty much out.  Last year they all went and bought a bag of candy to make a big bowl so that they could munch.  Sigh.  Adult children can be soooo clueless sometimes.  :)

Well... whatever your choice for the evening, hope it's a great day and awesome weekend!  Some of us have the day off tomorrow...  :)

We Have Snow!

Not very much - it's just a skiff, but it's cool and I'm excited.  I remind myself that it will melt and go away before the end of the week, if not today, and winter hasn't quite started yet, but it gives me hope.  Yes, I love winter and spring and fall...  summer is too hot!  sigh.

And just a couple quick things today -
Internet Day - of course we all now take the internet for granted...but you realize that only 20 years ago it was not as accessable, right?  We moved from Salt Lake and I had a part time job doing data entry on our computer and then sending it back via internet.  That was the day of the dial up modems and such.  Only five years before that we hadn't had internet, only a computer that we sort of played games on and I did a little writing.  When we got married, there was no internet yet...just the new PC and word processing. We thought cable was awesome and we rented VHS movies from Blockbuster.  😁 My how the world has changed!!  Before the Internet, there was the intranet, which there was a big article on KSL about how the U was part of that whole beginning.  Amazing stuff... we live in the day of science fiction.
I remember when this movie came out, we thought it was sooo cool.  Now it's old stuff and kids wouldn't even understand what he was doing...  (which was a bad thing, lol)

National Cat Day -  I used to be a BIG cat lover.  We've had cats since we got married...and one by one they have finally died off and we aren't such big fans anymore.  Don't get me wrong, I love kittens!!  oh my they are so cute!  but full grown cats??  They get on the nerves.  sigh.  If they use the litter box and stay off the counters, I might like them again... lol.  My daughter has three growing kittens that are so cute..but they are rapidly reaching the cat stage.  We were working on her house last night (it's in a late stage remodel) and this one cat is an escape artist.  The rest of them are confined to the basement, but this one always seems to find a way upstairs.  So she sat and purred and bugged and jumped on us all the time we were there.  Once she jumped on me from a shelf and the other time she jumped up from the floor and clawed her way up to my shoulders.
I like cats in movies better...at least the animated ones.  I love the Secret Life of Pets and Chloe.  She's soooo typical.  This is a compilation of her...

but my husband can never get enough of this scene

National Oatmeal Day - I love oatmeal.  I like it with all the toppings!!  Raisins...nuts...blueberries...maple syrup...cinnamon...the list can be endless.  How do you like your oatmeal??  I also like oats in cookies, and we put it in our banana bread, etc.  Have you tried the overnight ones in the fridge?  Those are yummy too, but better when it's hot.  Today would be good to have a nice steaming bowl of oatmeal with all sorts of toppings.  Enjoy!

Have an awesome day.... and if you're watching the world series tonight, I hope whichever team you're rooting for wins!!  Personally, I'm thinking the Nationals might not pull it off...  😪

And it's my grandson's bday...  can't believe how fast he is growing.  He's such a cutie!!

National Chocolate Day!

That's about the only thing I can talk about today.  The invention of the best stuff...  well, I guess it wasn't invented today, but for some reason this is the day they picked to praise it.  Apparently there are two days and one is in July.  Since I'm a little busy in July, I'm glad I get to celebrate on this day.  :)

Got to love Sandra Boynton's take on things.  I used to have a calendar by her where every day was some kind of food day.  It was soo much fun.  I guess I've been into this day of food stuff a long time...  hmmm.
This was probably more appropriate for chocolate cake day...but I love chocolate in almost any form and this is fun...

Anyway - hope you had a great weekend, and that you're ready for an awesome week!

Here's a great song to get you going!

Friday, October 25, 2019

It's Friday!! I'm so glad....

Have you ever had that week that's been good and bad at the same time??  You think you're doing good and then you realize that you've been brain dead in several capacities and it's not been as good as you think???  sigh.  That's the kind of week I've had.  I hope you've had a better one!!  A teacher and I were wishing we could do 'do over's, but when you get to Friday, why would you want to do the whole week over???  NOT.

sigh.

So - onto bigger and better things, right?  Today is supposed to be lovely, and tomorrow as well before the big cold front moves in, with possibly...SNOW!!  (happy dance, lol)  I know...four letter word, I know...  (my daughter hates driving in it.)

Tomorrow is also the bison roundup on Antelope Island for anyone who is looking for things to do.  It should be fun!

Today is also game 3 of the world series, so we all know what's going on tonight!  And tomorrow, actually...we have a family gathering and I'm wondering how well my brother will accept the fact that we need to watch the game instead of some movie...  🙂 😏

I guess I'll share the couple of fun things and get going with the day.

Frankenstein Friday -  So - the last Friday of October is THE day to celebrate this fictional character.  There has been so many adaptations of this book that I wonder if the author would recognize them today.  We used to like Young Frankenstein when we were younger, and then when we started having children we realized it's really NOT a good film for children...  actually quite inappropriate, but when you consider the director and most the actors involved, yeah...no surprise.  I think the version we like best is the one in Van Helsing. I wanted to show the clip from when Van Helsing is releasing Frankenstein (the monster) from the vampires but it doesn't seem to be a clip someone wanted.  sigh.  Anyway - it's a good halloween movie to watch!!

International Artists Day - Apparently this day was created to encourage and recognize the contributions of artists to society in general.  There is even a website dedicated to it...  Being an artist, I think this is kind of fun.  I hope you'll check out local artists and support them.  Here's a shameless plug for my website...

National Breadstix (Bread Sticks) Day -  Looks like this is another last Friday of the month type day...  I can't seem to find out why or when it started, but oh well.  I'm not one to complain about breadsticks - I love anything bread pretty much, and I love some good breadsticks (though don't talk to me about the skinny crispy might-as-well-be-a-cracker stuff...).

When we had our pizza joint we used to make an awesome alfredo cheese sticks that were a big item.  Our kids still miss those breadsticks...  Hmmm  Might have to come up with something tonight that might be passable.
Anyway - if you go to Olive Garden you know you'll get free breadsticks with your dinner...  and looks like if you order Little Ceasars (ugh) you get free breadsticks today.  So - thoughts to consider, lol.

World Pasta Day - The idea of going without pasta, I admit - is a very difficult proposition.  Pasta is one of my favorite carbs...along with bread.  So - I try to be healthy and buy the whole grain or whole wheat ones.  My family grumbles a little, but hey, they figure pasta is pasta, lol.  I had planned this weeks menus before knowing that it was world pasta day, or I would have definitely made chicken alfredo with bow ties!!  (that's on the menu for another day - didn't quite think it was baseball food, go figure)  I wish I was ambitious enough to make my own, but our pasta machine lost it's handle somehow and we need to get a new one.  sigh.

National Greasy Foods Day  -  I don't know why this would be a day, but as I was reading on one site - anyone can create a day any time they want to, it doesn't take an act of congress or the president.  Where's the fun in that??  I mean, I guess I could make my own day...a Pasta foodie day...or the cooking artist day...  what day would you come up with??  So, greasy foods go with baseball, but we're having philly steaks, so no greasy stuff on our menu.

Hope this gives you some ideas for the night and weekend...hopefully you'll have a great one and be ready for another round next week.

Enjoy some fun from Robin Williams and food...

Do you Feel AWE?

A coworker shared a link of a study done about how people need more Awe in their lives.  I thought it was an awesome thing, and there's a link to a quiz to see how much awe you have in your life.  I wanted to share it with you...so here ya go - go find out if you need more awe in your life!
https://greatergood.berkeley.edu/article/item/what_awe_looks_like_in_the_brain

I got a pretty good score - which didn't really surprise me because I'm always the first to point out amazing cloud formations to my family...or ooh and ahhh over the colors of fall on the mountains.  I think our planet is amazing!! And I really appreciate where I live and the views of the mountain and the lake...  sigh.  It's a gorgeous place, really.  I wish I had photos that did it justice... but here are some that were submitted to KSL that you can enjoy!
https://www.ksl.com/weather/photoContest/gallery/10/2019

and one of my own

And - before heading into other stuff - if you haven't been watching the World Series, you're missing out!  Last night's game was amazing!!  The Nationals are doing AWESOME!!  Here's a highlights of last night...

(a point of awe, right??)  My hubby is pretty bummed about his team not doing as well...  I'm hoping they at least win one game...
so, anyway -  onto more mundane things...lol

Today is also National Bologna Day.  Now - as an adult, I don't eat much bologna.  I did when I was a teenager... we used to fry it up for sandwiches.  I discovered mayonaise with bologna and wondered where the stuff had been all my life!  (I'd been raised eating miracle whip - ugh!  couldn't stand the stuff and still don't like it.  Mayo is the best!!)  My son still likes it, though I guess he won't eat it every day.  I remember we also used to put potato chips on our sandwiches too.  Did you ever do that??

It's also Good and Plenty day.  If you like the candy, then I'm sure you're thrilled.  I've never really been a good and plenty fan, so no biggy to me. Apparently the stuff has been around since 1893... 🙂  Part of the reason is I'm not a dark licorice fan.  I love red licorice - but can't stand the black stuff.  The only time I've liked the flavor is when of my co-workers made licorice flavored caramels.  Oh my!!  Now that was something else entirely...
Well... have a wonderful day!!  Find some awe and soak it up.

World Series starts today!!

Okay - I know it's not really a 'world series' as in different countries compete... I don't get how they get away with calling it that personally...but that's my own psychosis, lol.  You would think Japan would object - they are big base ball fans too.

ANYWAY - totally got sidetracked there.  sigh.  So - world series time is big in our house.  My hubby doesn't watch baseball any other time because we don't have cable or dish or whatever, and so we can't watch games.  Once in a while we'll catch a BYU game, but that's not the same to me.  I try and take him to a Bee's game once a year, but that doesn't always happen.  Last year we got to go for free - it was awesome!!  So...to make a long story even longer...we buy Canada Dry to drink (remember, he's a Canadian at heart - and it hails back to the 90s when the Blue Jays won the world series.  :)  ) The teams this year are Washington Nationals and Houston Astros.  Who is your pick?  It's hard because we usually like Texas, but I don't rememberWashington making it to the series...like ever, so I always root for the under dog.  Did you know they pick home field advantage based on how they've had a season??  So that's lame...should be a coin toss, lol.
So anyway, we always have chili dogs and baseball food.  I have it totally planned out this time...and I think I've got everything we need, except the peanuts!
And today is National Nut Day!  So, I'm going to have to grab some peanuts in shells for him to munch on.  It's tradition!  So much of baseball is all about tradition, right?  (baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and...)  I'll bet everyone knows the words to "Take me out to the ball game..."

We have so many favorite baseball movies...  which is your favorite??
Here's a couple of favorite scenes...

Love the Rookie!!

I think everyone loves the Sandlot!

I also loved Field of Dreams...

Okay - I could go on forever, so I'll get back to the day to day stuff, lol.  Last thing to comment on is
Smart is Cool Day - smart is always cool.  I guess back in my day it wasn't so cool to the 'in' crowd, but if you wanted to get anywhere, it helped to be smart.  Makes me think of the music video by Weird All...  White and Nerdy...

I think it's cool to be smart.  There's just a gene sometimes that lacks the social cues... makes me think of Big Bang theory...  Have you ever watched that show?  I don't, but I have seen this particular scene and it makes me laugh...

Well...  Have a great day, and remember to watch the game tonight!!  I'll be rooting for the Nationals.  just watch...my hubby will root for Houston...  sigh.

Happy Monday everyone!

Hope everyone had a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable long weekend!  I tried...  we got some things done, and then grandkids got sick...home repair didn't get as far along as expected and then we froze at a booth on Saturday, another grandkid got sick on Sunday...so, from one end to the other, so to speak.  🙂

We watched Hocus Pocus on Thursday, which was fun.  Always good for a laugh!  Our grandchildren haven't seen it yet, so I guess we've extended the tradition another generation.  :)

Hope all your travels were safe and fun.  I've heard of several people that are sick!!

So - not much to celebrate, but the two items are worth looking into!!

National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day!  Of course we're into everything pumpkin this time of year, but this sounds YUMMY.  I recently discovered the Cheesecake factory...and while I'm not that impressed with their food otherwise, the cheesecakes ARE amazing!  So - we might have to grab some to go...

Animated GIFNational Caramel Apple day!!  I tell you, I love me some caramel apples...especially when dipped in chocolate.  Slice those puppies up and share, and it's good stuff.  My son brought home one the other day to share and it was SOOO sour!!  😲 I didn't think they'd try that hard to counter act the sweet...  man.  My daughter used to bring them home once in a while from Kneeders and share them.  There was some awesome ones there.  I guess you could always just cut up an apple and dip in caramel, but then how would you work the chocolate???  I mean...that's kind of essential for me, lol.
What I'm really sad about is last Saturday we missed celebrating Seafood Bisque!!  I love bisque...I guess it's the cream, right??  But Mushroom bisque??  Lobster bisque??  sigh...  we might have to have soup tonight.  Everyone will complain because we had stew last night, but I don't think it's the same thing, AND, I'm the mom.  I get to say...right??  If they want to cook, they can pick something else.  lol

anything with bisque means I have to share James...right?

Well - hope you have a great day!  It's going to be an awesome week!  🙂

Happy World Bread Day!

I have to admit, bread is one of my favorite things.  Especially sourdough!  oh my...want to make my whole day?  Give me some fresh sourdough bread with butter...  Apparently this was started about 10 years ago by a artesian baker that wanted to encourage the making of sourdough.  Personally, I have a hard time keeping starters...  I experimented for a couple years, trying to get a pineapple base one to go, and finally got a loaf and pizza crust out of it, and then it died.  I've received starters from others that just hasn't kept...and it's so sad.  sigh.  Right now my life is too crazy to try and keep the starter because it has to be fed and used and discarded - oh wait - I just found a recipe that said you didn't have to discard it!!!  So I'll let you know how that one works out.  :)

So - it's a great day.  It's Wednesday...it's going to be gorgeous!  And for some of us, it's the last work day of the week!  How can it get better?  Possibly if we were all heading out to some wonderful location to veg...lol.  But - since many of us are remaining here at the home port and doing catch up on household things, we'll have to find other ways to relax.  Personally, we're going to watch Hocus Pocus with the grandkids and introduce them to the acting prowess of Bette Midler.  :)  What are your plans for fall break?

Anyway - along with it being bread day, there are a couple more things to celebrate...
Boss's Day (or National Boss's Day) : Yeah!  We have a great boss...  He has to deal with six women who are all older than he is...most of us could be his mom, lol.  But anyway - he's awesome.

Dictionary Day: how many of you read the dictionary?  My autistic son likes dictionaries.  He bought one that was printed in 1900's and needed the binding repaired.  It's like a foot thick and has lots more photos than the ones today.  He will sit and read that like most of us read books.  Today is Webster's bday, and so of course, day to celebrate his greatest known effort.  I think it's funny...my granddaughter likes to read the dictionary as well.  It really is a fascinating read!

National Feral Cat Day:  Okay - I think it's funny that they celebrate feral cats.  Feral cats are cats that don't have owners, right?  The Humane Society is big on this because they're hoping to reduce population...  One of my co-workers has a neighborhood cat that camped out in her garage and sprayed her boat and stuff (UGH) and her hubby trapped it and took it to the pound.  They brought it back two weeks later and said that according to the feral cat law, it had to be brought back and released in their neighborhood!!  Have you heard of this??  I thought it was crazy...  But you have to admit - mice and rats are a problem if there aren't cats around, so which do you want less?  We always make sure we have at least one cat - but I don't think she's doing her job right now.  😒  Problem is I love kittens... fortunately I can leave them and go home - kittens grow up into cats with attitude..

National Take Your Parents To Lunch Day:  Well... never hear about this with enough time to do it...and as both my parents are gone and my mother-in-law just got taken to lunch for birthdays...I'm good.  My children, on the other hand...could take me out, if any of them had the day free - which they don't, lol.  So - what about you?  Taking your parents to lunch??  I'm sure they wouldn't mind dinner...

As usual - whatever your thing, have a good one!!  :)

I Love Lucy

don't you??  I mean, what's not to love??  Well, today is the day to celebrate her.  It's  I Love Lucy day!  I know I've talked about how much I loved her show and the actress herself.  This is a clip of one I don't remember watching!!  Looks pretty fun...

National Cake Decorating Day -  I remember when it was a big deal to have a wedding cake made.  That was art...large beautiful flowers and ribbons and frosting to make your mouth melt.  Now a days...there are sooo many ways to decorate and many designs!!  It's crazy - you never quite know if it's real...or if it's cake!  :)
This is a creation I made for my son's bday - he loved it.  :)

I think this is way fun...  Can't imagine how this was put together.
And this unicorn is AWESOME!!  I'm thinking that's a LOT of fondant though...  on both of them.  You don't eat fondant...even though they say it's edible.

Think this tea pot one is adorable... but it's still fondant.  sigh.
This dragon one is amazing as well!!  and getting the colors right - these guys are artists - it's just another canvas.

National Cheese Curd Day -  So who loves cheese curd??  I know I do - and my family.  We were so disappointed when we discovered the cheese factory by Fish Lake closed down and we couldn't get it any more.  It's one of the things we like to do on the way down or the way back from St George - stop in Beaver at the cheese factory.  Squealy cheese!!

National Chicken Cacciatore Day - TheNibble explains that this dish was developed in Italy as the hunters dish.  If the hunter didn't come home with any game, he'd grab a chicken and that would be cooked like the game would have been.  yum...  I guess.  I'm not sure I've ever had this dish - let me know if you have and if you like it.  I'd rather have pasta and chicken and alfredo... lol

Well, I keep thinking it's Wednesday, but it's only Tuesday.  Hopefully you have a great day!

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving everyone!  I think I've mentioned before how my family has celebrated this day since my hubby and I got married.  He went on a mission to Toronto Ontario, and so feels Canadian at heart - must celebrate the day.

If you aren't in the mood for Canadian Thanksgiving - you could always celebrate National Dessert day.  I mean hey - pie is good no matter what day it is, right??  Or chocolate....

Anyway - Have a great one and eat lots of turkey!  :)

Qucik Friday!

Okay - It's Friday!!  for some reason this week has seemed long - has it to you??  It's not like this is going to be a relaxing weekend, but I guess I've been looking forward to it.  Hope you have some great plans!  Tomorrow is supposed to be nice.  :)

So - like I said, quick bit, so here is the stuff I wanted to share -

National Family Bowling Day -  I haven't been bowling in so long - but it's a fun family activity.  My hubby is really good at it.  We have fun with the Wii bowling - but it's not the same thing.  :)  I was hoping to share a clip from Return to Me where she and her family/friends are bowling.  It's hilarious, but apparently no one else has broken that down into a clip.  If you have the movie, today would be a good day to watch it!  Or - better yet, if you have a bowling alley close, go do the actual thing!
Here's where the bowling is in the trailer...

Southern Food Heritage Day -  What comes to your mind when you think about southern food?  It's interesting that our nation is defined by region and by food...  you mention fried chicken?  It's SOUTHERN fried chicken.  You mention pizza?  It's a CHICAGO deep dish pizza.  You talk about Tacos??  Well, that's anywhere from California to Arizona, or even Texas - but it's western food.  There are lots of food that seems to be southern rooted.. Grits, corn pone, fried chicken, LARD (ugh) etc.  I have a friend that is from Arkansas (which I guess is south, I would have thought it was more central...but then I also figure the Bay Area to be central California, NOT northern - and I grew up there, lol)  Anyway - she talks about grits and fried stuff in LARD and mayo slathered stuff.  I have tried grits, and just don't get it.  I probably haven't had it properly cooked...  I love this bit in The Help where she teaches her how to cook...

So - whatever it is you like from the south - today would be the day to eat it!  :)

World Egg Day -  Apparently eggs are the thing - right?  A while ago the only thing good about the egg was the whites...and now the yolk are good - depending on who you talk to.  Moderation, right?  Well, I love deviled eggs...scrambled eggs...over easy with soft yolks...  boiled eggs I take out the yolk and give it to my hubby or son - too try.  What's your favorite way to eat eggs??  I love eggs Benedict as well...  Remember Runnaway Bride?  She always ate the eggs her fiance's ate.  I like how she finally decides the only eggs she likes are eggs Benedict.  Good taste!

National Sausage Pizza Day - If you like sausage pizza, here ya go.  I think it depends on the sausage, myself.  We had pizza last night because we were doing a booth and I didn't want to starve till 9pm.  I think we're having soup tonight...does it count if it has sausage in it??  :)

World Dulce de Leche Day - I always thought it was something to do with milk, but I had no idea that it was sweetened condensed milk cooked IN THE CAN for hours till it carmelizes.  How crazy is that???  I realize I'm probably slow to the scene of that, but I think it's crazy.  Interesting how it's a world recognized item...   So - if you like that stuff, there ya go!  I'd recommend starting on it pretty soon, lol.

Well...  Not as quick as I had originally intended, but short.  Have a great weekend and a lovely day!!

A day past hump day...

Well...  hump day I was busy working (what??  You mean you actually work???  lol)  and there wasn't anything much worth sharing.  I did think briefly about finding something funny about hump day, but wasn't that motivated...  I kept thinking of this silly commercial by Geico...

So - I thought it would be fun to focus on AFTER hump day and see if that was better.  This will be shorter than Monday's (well, Tuesday's) epistle simply because 1) I am at work! and 2) there's not so much fun stuff to share.  (Thankfully everyone feels that this is a work related morale boosting endeavor so I try not to push it...  )
anyway - did anyone else notice that it didn't quite freeze as hard as all the warnings said??  At least not in our neck of the woods.  I barely even had frost on my windshield, so I'm wondering who had to bundle up to their earlobes because it wasn't me.  I'm hoping it's not frost bite weather tonight at the Stroll Kaysville (yes, shameless plug).  :)

I'm sure everyone has noticed the AMAZING leaves on the mountains this past week.  I tell everyone, I can't imagine living anywhere else, really.  From the east to the west, it's just an awesome view.
Let's get to the meat of things...

International Newspaper Carrier Day -  Newspaper carriers are a dying breed, I hate to point it out, and it makes me sad.  We actually delivered papers as a family for about a year or so when we lived in Salt Lake.  It was the perfect route - right around our house neighborhood.  But...Sunday mornings were a PAIN and winter??  ugh!!  Now people can read the  news on their computer without having to go outside to get the paper...  It also means that there will be less of this happening, lol:

Motorsports Memorial Day: Apparently the motorsports industry wanted to promote safety in racing, so they got this day.  I have to agree that it's a crazy sport...  There are lots of movies about crashes and deaths and wins and losses.  I grew up next to a race track in California and could hear the announcers on race day.  Never did go to a race though...  didn't have that kind of money.  :)  What's your favorite racing movie?  This is one of mine... and this scene shows the danger for regular people.

National Handbag Day - Handbag!!  who even calls them that anymore?  I carry a purse (when I have to, lol).  There's even such a thing as a man-purse.  I think they're just messenger bags with a slight upgrade.  I know people that collect them, though.  They have a purse (handbag) for every outfit.  I don't like to change stuff over - I carry lots of stuff in my purse.  I  mean... I'm a mom - uh, grandma.  :)  And they're famous for being articles of defense...

Naval Academy Day - Since my family was big in the Navy, can't pass this day up.  Unfortunately, we couldn't talk any of our kids into joining the navy...but at least I have a nephew that's a Navy Seal, so we're partially cool.

National Angel Food Cake Day -  and of course we end with food!!  I'm not a big angel food cake fan myself - it's so....fluffy and I like it better when it's already cut up and in triffle or something.  What's your favorite version?  We've also cut it up and dipped it in chocolate fondue...
I always think of this scene in Ground Hog Day when I think of Angel Food Cake... I mean, he can fit that whole thing in his mouth!!

Well...  have an awesome day - and keep warm!  :)

It's a new week... Monday!

It's Monday!  blue skies and cool fall weather.  Awesome!
Hope you all had a good weekend, mine was a mixture of craziness and fun.  What can I say?  My bday was on Saturday, and so Friday my mother-in-law took me to lunch, and spent the day with hubby - fed the missionaries, had a movie marathon (ugh....Avengers Endgame and then Spiderman, far from home...too late for me!) which made Saturday morning a little sluggish...had breakfast with kids and then grocery shopping, working on daughter's house, trying to listen to conference (wow!!!) and then cleaning up our storage room after having a small water issue where everything got wet and we had to empty it out, dry it up and then I made sure it was a little organized as we put it back... made me late getting to watch the women's conference, which was awesome...

Sunday the weather was gorgeous and we did a leaf ride up the canyon.  It was pretty, but I could tell we'd already missed some of the better color.  Still fun... the dogs had to be brought along - sigh...
I discovered this morning that there is white dog hair all over my black work bag...  I'm not sure it was worth it to bring the dogs, lol.  But they had fun...

So - hope your weekend was wonderful!!

just a couple of fun things to share...  hopefully it will help make this Monday a good one!

National Chocolate Covered Pretzel Day - we had the pretzel thins on our car ride yesterday... the dark chocolate covered ones, so it was a day early, but good stuff!!  of course, you know anything chocolate covered is usually good in my book...

National Consignment Day - if you like consignment stores, this would be a good day to go search them out and support them.  I think it's a great idea, I'm just not organized to get my stuff to one.  I find it's easier to just donate it to someone and let them deal with it, lol.

National Forgiveness Day - It's been said that sometimes the best thing for yourself is to forgive.  Forgive others who have offended, hurt or done something to you, forgive yourself for being less than perfect, etc.  Sometimes the worst thing we can do to ourselves is to hang onto those hurts and keep them festering in our souls.  Let go - take a page from the Disney world and just let it go.  Forgive others...forgive yourself.  Sometimes it's easier to say than do, but try.  Imagine what the hurt was and say good bye.  Imagine it being carried away in the wind to not bother you again.  That's the trick, isn't it?  It's easy to say you've forgiven, but when you come face to face with that person, what do you feel inside?  If you can see yourself shaking hands with that person and then being pleasant, then you are good.  I'm still working on this - it's hard.  But, it's so much better for you!!  Not forgiving someone is like slowly drinking poison and wondering why you're feeling so miserable...  It only hurts you.  Move on...take control...  You can do it.
This scene kind of reflects how important it is...

National Inner Beauty Day -  Everyone is beautiful.  It doesn't matter what the world thinks...what matters is what is on the inside.  Who you really are on the inside.  If you are a beautiful person inwardly, you will become beautiful to others because they will see that beauty and admire you for what you really are.  Physical beauty can be gone in an instant - accidents, illness, age, all of those things change how we look on the outside - but if you are truly beautiful on the inside, it won't matter.  And all of you are beautiful.  The world is all about someone discovering that they really are beautiful on the outside...but that's only working with what was on the inside to begin with.  My Big Fat Greek Wedding she calls herself 'frump girl'.  She wasn't comfortable or sure of herself.  When she discovered that she had strengths and a personality, she discovered her inward self and showed it to the world.  It had always been there inside of her.
One of my favorite clips of this movie...

It's National Frappe Day - which according the TheNibble is a New England word for milkshake.  Go figure...  but hey, go have a milkshake!!  I always thought frappe was related to coffee...  and that's what it says when I do a search online... I guess as long as you have something mixed with whipped cream on top, you're good.  :)

World Day of Architecture - I think architecture is cool.  I love some older buildings, I like some of the lines of the newer buildings...though some of the streamlined things seem too impersonal.  I'm not big into the whole warehouse look, but some are fun.  I always think of the move The Lake House when I think of architecture.  I love that house (though it was built just for the movie and then demolished!! argh!) though I wonder how cold it would have been...or hot (not work in Utah!!).  I like the part where he takes her on a walking tour...

a humorous architecture movie is Mount Hunt.  You wouldn't really think this was about a house...and it's not, but it's a great sub plot.  The Missing Larue!!  The mouse is the main character...man vs mouse.  Who wins??  But this is one of our favorite parts... no words...just actions...

You'll want to end at 1:45...it's a little longer than wanted...

You Matter To Me Day
- Just in case you wonder if you matter to anyone...you matter to me.  Everyone matters, even if you think no one cares.  Think about the million stars in the sky...each one of them is surrounded by planets we can't see...and no one knows anything about the stars other than they are points of light.  You are a point of life for the world around you.  You may not realize that there are those using your light to guide their lives, but there are.  You are a light, you need to shine.  You matter.
Have a good one!!

It's Tuesday and October... where has the time gone??

So, we jump into fall with nice brisk temps.  Anyone else have frost on their cars this morning?  I really miss parking in my garage...sigh.  I'm looking at October and wondering where the time went.   September was a blink of an eye!  Good grief.

So - some fun stuff to celebrate, commemorate, yada yada...

CD Player Day - I remember when CDs came into being and we thought it was crazy and would never last.  We liked cassette tapes - well, when they didn't get twisted.  Then there was the CD player that you could carry with you, that was awesome...  I always think of Back to the Future with Michael J Fox popping the cassette into the player.  Anyone remember a scene with a CD player?
Here's a great clip from the Piano Guys...putting their CD in and dancing!

International Coffee Day - For those of you who like those beans, here ya go, this day is for you.  Enjoy!  Personally, I have a hard time smelling coffee...ugh.  I walk by the aisle in the grocery store and it's soooo strong!  I love this scene from George of the Jungle.  Unfortunately I can't find it in English... hopefully you'll get the gist.

java java java java java....

International Music Day -  I think the ideal behind this is cool.  This started in 1975, and was promoted to try and bring peace and culture to the people around the world.  It was supposed to encourage composers, artists, etc. to share with everyone and there was supposed to be a moment of silent among everyone while they listened to music being played in the city squares or whatever.  I wish they were doing something about it around here....   makes me think of this scene in Jungle to Jungle.  :)  Love music in the parks.

Model T Day -
On this day in 1908 the Model T was introduced to the public.  Apparently withing days there were over 15000 orders.  This car changed the face of America, and ultimately how Americans wanted to get around. Everyone wants a car!! Remember Karate kid?

I love the lessons Mr. Miyagi teaches him.  And...the appreciation of the kid.  Don't see that now a days much... right?

National Book It! Day - One of the best promotional programs by a corporation - the Book It! Day created by Pizza Hut was an awesome idea.  I have no idea if it's still going on, but I know my kids loved earning those personal pan pizzas.  Every body read!!  (eating pizza at the same time isn't that bad of an idea...  lol)

National Fruit At Work Day - seriously??  Why do you need to promote fruit at work?  Is that like promoting water and or veggies??  How about a drive by fruiting?  lol

National Lace Day - do you know that the art of making lace is rapidly disappearing?  My sister does tatting, which is another form of lace, and she doesn't do it a lot anymore, it does take a lot of time.  Lace is a wonderful thing.  I think it is an addition of civility...but that's me.  I love lace.

National Walk Your Dog Day - apparently this is Walk Your Dog week...and there is some debate as to if this is walk your dog day, or if it's in February.  Personally, I think October is a better month for it... can usually have warm enough weather to be outside.  Not much of a guarantee with February...
But I don't think this is the way they had in mind, lol

Willy Wonka Day - I don't know if I've ever read the book.  I love how they have adapted so many of his books to movies, and I feel a little guilty, but not much.  Willy Wonka is probably my favorite.  Especially with Gene Wilder.  I'm sorry, but the Johnny Depp version just does NOT fill the same spot for me... I've heard many say it's truer to the book...oh well.  Gene was awesome...

National Homemade Cookies day -  Cookies!!  Cookie monster!!  sugar and chocolate and everything together...  Got to make cookies...  what if it were a diet plan???

Pudding season begins!! - what is your favorite type of pudding?  I love bread pudding, which is crazy, I hate soggy bread - which is one of the reasons I don't like regular stuffing.  I guess, however, I like it if it's sweet, as in our family's tradition of pineapple stuffing for thanksgiving instead of regular stuff.  interesting...   Anyway - I love pudding, especially the warm stuff in the colder weather.  Do you ever make it from scratch?  It's a little more complicated, but soooo good.

Well... probably enough about food and chocolate and stuff.  Hope you have a great day!!  It's sun shinny, leaves are changing...life is good!!

Wow... really??

so - I didn't realize it has been that long since my last post.  I think I kind of gave up on it, knowing I don't have many follower...
